If you installed it through cPanel, you can upgrade it through cPanel by going to Scripts Library --> phpBB, and selecting your installation from the list. It's version 2.0.19, which is one version back from the latest, but it's better than what you have if you can't figure out how to upgrade it to 2.0.20 yourself.

lol...no. Not on a shared server anyway. On a dedicated server sure no problem.

One company I worked for had me sign an agreement that said something to the affect of any notes, sketches, etc. that I might generate while I'm employed, and anything I invent within 6 months of termination of my employment with them, is all theirs. But then they had a pretty big loyalty issue there.

Depends who the judge is I suppose. It can be very gray.

To get access to the family section please PM a TCH staff member (the guys whose names are in red at the bottom of the page, like myself) with your domain name and we will send you the password. Website content ownership can be a tough issue. If he's paying for the hosting, and you worked for him while you made the website for him, and you don't have anything to prove ownership other than "copyrighted by" on the site (which could easily be removed by him at any time), then you might have a tough time proving your case either here or in a court of law. That's not saying we don't take copyright issues seriously, because we do. You just need to be able to prove it. Feel free to IM or email me or open a Help Desk ticket if you would like to discuss the issue in detail.

Welcome to the forums wvcrafted and thanks for your interest. You can have your own SSL cert and you will have access to your site via cPanel. We do not allow shell access on our shared servers - for that you would have to get a dedicated server. Generally speaking, the Starter Plan can hold what you are talking about, but it really comes down to the amount of traffic you receive. We monitor our shared servers to ensure no one user drags down the resources of all the other users, and if you do we would usually ask that you either stop doing what you are doing or upgrade to a dedicated server. But our servers are sturdy quad-processor Xeon machines so for most people this is not an issue. Like you said, you don't think you will be getting too much traffic, so the Starter Plan sounds like a good place to start. We allow you to upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time so you don't have to worry about getting locked into one plan for a long period of time. As we've mentioned in other threads, you can make WordPress look however boring or fancy as you want it. I use it to build sites all the time. Even used it for the site of my old town's Board of Education. It's quick to implement, and it's easy for users to update once you get the structure in place. If you take the time to learn it, it's a very powerful tool.

First, I put on my tinfoil hat. Then I use a Random Password Generator to create a long and complicated password which I store in KeePass on an encrypted USB drive that is either attached to my computer or in my pocket. A backup copy of my KeePass database is on an encrypted DVD in the house safe.

Do you know if your account was actually hijacked or if they just spoofed your email address? Meaning, did they actually log in to your accout and send emails from your domain, or did they just have your email address in the "From" or "Reply To" fields?

Your root directory (or home directory) is the folder on the server holding all of your data and is represented as /home/yourCpanelUsername/. When you FTP to your site you would generally be dropped into this folder and it's usually represented to you as a single slash "/". In this directory you will see a bunch of folders like mail, public_ftp, public_html, and so on. Your home directory is not accessible from the web, so if you needed to put something somewhere that is not accessible from the web, this would be it. You can create folders here if you want. public_html is the folder that holds your website. Everything in this folder is accessible from the web. You are able to password protect directories through cPanel, but if somebody figures out the password for that they will be able to get in. Hope this helps.
