I just got my Vonage phone today. Opted for the UTStarcom F1000 Wifi phone. It's the size of a solid cell phone and doesn't come with an extra router or anything. It will automatically scan for any open wireless access point, or you can pre-set up to four specific AP's. And it supports WEP and WPA-PSK. Setup was a piece of cake. Been making calls on it all day and I'm liking it. Quality is as good as if not better than my cell phone. Haven't had a land line in years so I can't really compare it to that. First impression - it is good.

Here's what I know. Not too long ago a forum user posted a link to a virus-laden page (with a dislaimer not to click it, of course). Being the idiot that I am, I clicked it. I was using Firefox, so of course nothing happened. No sirens, nothing. So, pushing my luck, I opened up IE and clicked the link. And my computer almost blew up. My AV software went nuts, one or two programs opened up (MS photo viewer and notepad if I recall), and IE crashed. Then of course I had to shut everything down and sweep to make sure I didn't just screw myself. Big, big difference. Especially if you don't have downright paranoid antivirus and antispyware practices in place. But to each his own.

You should be able to get to it by going to http://your-domain.com/cpanel or http://your-domain.com:2082. Make sure your firewall isn't blocking Port 2082 (which is a common problem if you are on a corporate network). If that doesn't do it for you, please open a help desk ticket.

I use xampp under Windows and use relative paths just fine. If you want to get into specific include problems I'm sure we could figure it out between all of us.

I noticed that too. The shaft is pretty big, so it shouldn't be too tough to make the elevator bigger.

Agreed. The design has progressed quite a bit since that screenshot. I have another shaft for ventilation, water, utilities, etc. Putting a ladder in that one. Tried a spiral staircase, but that didn't work out. AutoCAD is better for complicated stuff like that.

I'm on the outskirts of Vegas. Nothing but dirt and bedrock. Sure my water situation is similar to Aaron's.

I cannot believe this is free. I started using it yesterday to plan the deck/barbeque/landscaping in my backyard, but I soon went off on a tangent and started planning my secret underground hideout. (Preview here. Got a ways to go, but you get the idea.) Very, very easy to work with and very capable so far.

Also, check out WordPress MU. Haven't tried it myself yet, but I was thinking about trying to set it up for my family so I can get them off Blogger, LiveJournal, etc.

For posting images vie email check out Flickr. Set up a regular Flickr account, put in your blog settings (supports most of them), and it gives you an email address you can use to post to your blog. You write an email and attach the image - the subject is the title of the post, the body text is the body of the post, and the attached image is placed in the post however you defined when you set up the account. Grandma should definitely be able to handle that, assuming you do all the setup for her. The only problem I see with it is that the post gets put up on Flickr as well. You can go and make it private after the fact, but I haven't figured out how to make it private by default. Maybe there's a Flickr guru in the bunch.

It has snagged 209 comment spams in it's first 15 hours. Apparently I have made it onto somebody's radar. Normally that would have been 209 comments sitting in moderation that I would have to clear, along with 209 emails in my inbox telling me I have to moderate some comments. *TCH-Tim likes

Welcome to the forums Bruce. Do you get any errors when you try to connect, or does it just hang? What are you using to connect? Some script or program? To connect to your database from another server (or PC or whatever) you need to enter the IP address of that server in the "Access Hosts" section in the MySQL Account Maintenance, accessible through cPanel. Sounds like you may have already done that. Make sure your database username and password in whatever program or script it is you are trying to run is correct. Keep in mind that your database name will be in the form of cpaneluseraname_dbname and your database username will be in the form of cpanelusername_dbuser - essentially your database name and username are prefixed with your cPanel username. Your password, however, is not. Also be sure that your database user has been added to the database itself. Those are the basics off the top of my head. Double-check all that and let us know where you stand.

Spinoff from another topic.... If you have a WordPress blog, and you don't have Spam Karma installed, drop what you are doing and go get it. Now. I took Bruce's advice and finally got around to installing it, and it's working already. Good, good stuff.

I used to have a subscription at audible.com, probably two or so years ago. They have a good selection but it would almost take me longer to listen to a book than to just read it, and I wouldn't absorb it as well. Now when I drive I mostly just stick to NPR. Truth is stranger than fiction anyway, right?

You're right. I'm sorry nobody has come along with an answer for you, but please don't bump threads. My suggestion would be to poke around on php.net. They have whole pages for every function, with user-submitted examples for different implemenations. You can find mail() here.

I'm afraid that the random usernames are part of our security policy and not likely to change anytime soon. I feel your pain though - I have dozens of different usernames (along with random secure passwords) that I have to remember. I use KeePass to keep track of all my various usernames and passwords. Easy to use, secure, and it fits on a USB thumbdrive so I can take it anywhere.

Haven't had problems with 2k yet. Yet.
