This past couple weeks I have had fun planning how I would spend two $100 Amazon.com gift certificates. (One came from the TCH photo contest earlier this year- thank you guys- and the other was issued by audible.com for my new annual subscription for audio books). Ended up with a 2GB photo card, new rechargeable batteries for my digital camera, a movie, and my mp3 player! Squeezed every bit of fun out of those, for the longest term use I could get. Since I have a bookcase FULL of audio tapes and cds for my book habit, it only seemed correct that I finally move to downloadables to save some $$ on the per book cost. Even buying them at discount places with bulk purchases, the downloadables are cheaper. I have been using rechargeable AAA batteries by Duracell in my little pocket FM radio at the office. Regular alkalines should give me 20-24 hours of play. And the rechargeables are supposed to give me 75-80% of that for everyday use. For my long trip, I plan on getting some of those E2's. Though I have not used them, I have only heard good things about them! My only out of pocket expense came for a new FM transmitter for my auto. My old one has a dial and bumpy roads can cause it to move off the proper setting. New one is MUCH nicer. Listened to THE WHISTER and a DRAGNET radio performances this morning on the way into work. FUN! I brought my little toy into the office and everyone in the office is impressed with the sound quality. My boss wants me to talk to her husband to get one for christmas! And another coworker wants me to send the link for the gift certificate page (good through end of the year). Spreading the joy.....

After much study and consideration, I finally got an mp3 player! Wanted one that handles music and audiobooks without major price, had to have regular battery so it could be replaced when it goes bad (also did not want to be stuck with charging from a dock or from PC). When I go to Germany, I can take it for the long plane rides and won't have to worry that the battery will be dead and no way to charge! Ended up with an IRIVER T30 1GB and I LOVE IT! Had to dump the firmware and have iriver tech support give me a new firmware version (the publically available updater did not work on my unit) but took less than 5 minutes and I was up and running! Used Drag and Drop to put folders with music into the drive (didn't bother with the playlist or Windows Media Player), and a folder with some old time radio shows and then promptly downloaded my first audo book 8+ hours from audible.com and still have half the player empty! The sound quality is terrific. Even low quality MP3's I burnt years ago sound nice. Easy to use and lightweight. Lots of features. One of the best is direct line input, record from just about any source. Finally can create mp3 of some old records that are not available in digital format! Could not have asked for more!

CMS sounds like a good way to go. I would first take a look at the options offered in cPanel (under FANTASTICO). You can also "test drive" them and several others without installation at this site: http://www.opensourcecms.com/ It's a nice way to check out the features and get a feel for them.

Activity AND the quality of the activity. Some forums get into bickering, petty insults, and general misbehavior. This holds no interest for me, even if the topic is one that does. I may read, but not post. I want to spend time with adults with the ability to communicate (speling optional) and sense of community. TCH forum has both. And of course quality smilies.

cPanel is the interface, the Control Panel, that some hosts offer. It is many options within a few clicks. Makes things like installing scripts (many provided with Fantastico), protecting web pages with password, preventing hotlinking and more SIMPLE. If you have images that are fun, they could be hotlinked to other sites or forums. Royal pain and really gobbles the bandwidth. Within cPanel it is just a matter of a few clicks and you stop that dead. You can define what types of files (images, flash, movies, soundclips, etc) and who IS allowed to hotlink. Many other hosts have far more difficult path to accomplishing this task. Bring on the questions. This forum is a great place for them. Use the search feature and you'll be able to find tutorials on many topics!

I agree. Starting fresh would be your best bet if you are planning to rebuild. Put in a help ticket and ask them to reset your account for best results. I have not tried the templates you mention. But I have used some of the Fastastico installed pieces and find it is so easy to setup and update.

Welcome to the forum and hope we can welcome you to the family soon. Yup sounds like hotlinking. Been there done that! Very simple to resolve using cPanel. Works wonders. Even if could resolve your situation at your current host, let me still invite you to consider TCH for its uptime, excellent service, terrific forum and involved management and support team! Having used free hosting and paid, TCH is still my favorite. You can still use many of the features that Bravenet offers even if you do not host with them.

This is the second time in less than a month. Once you were back up, did you upgrade the script and change your password as recommended? Passwords should not have words from dictionary, should have random letter number and possibly characters for best security.

Welcome to the forum, Tracy.

glad you got it working!

And of course you should not insult/irritate the search engines by over submitting. Too much and they consider that you are spamming them. Deverill is correct. You need to follow good construction tips for acceptable content but INCOMING LINKS to your site are vital. They allow the spiders to walk to your site! Consider: If your site has no incoming links to it, it is alone on an island with no way to get to it. And even if google knew where the island was, there is no reason to send people to it because there is no interest in the island. However, if you have a few weak incoming links, they will build some roads to your site. Eventually you will have strong links from very well linked, well listed sites that provide good strong roads to your site. And google will list your site.

Try going into HORDE to see if you can locate the emails in a different folder (happened to me once a while back). You may have more than one inbox in there. Horde also has a calendar and other functions that Squirrelmail does not offer. Since she only uses Squirrelmail, why did you check Outlook and Outlook Express? If you have accessed her account with those programs you will need to leave the option checked to LEAVE MAIL ON SERVER so she can see the mail later on the web mail (Horder or Squirrelmail) of her choice. Otherwise your PC program would have cleared the contents and could have put the messages into the DELETED or SPAM or JUNK folder within Outlook/Outlook Express or into another identity (if you have a second one set up). I know of no settings or changes to Squirrelmail that would have caused the problem. Doubt anyone has accessed your email but you may consider changing your password (mix alpha numeric and no words in the dictionary for best results).

Glad it worked out! We use this technique on our business site for our sales reps. Each has a different folder with their own stats and data. None can get into the others info. One thing we made sure to do...the user name did not follow the same pattern. For some of the reps, the user name is an email address, for others it is a phrase (nospaces), yet others it is a place, etc. so even if you know the other person's email address or favorite password used on other sites, you still would have to guess at the user name! Helps to keep people from entering where they don't belong!

Our main office address has been a nightmare for the last week 2 different filters in place and yet hundreds of spams through in the past week. Use of PICTURES to sell assorted crud that is mispeled and poorly written. The old-school spam used to tell you about a product, suggest a site in plain english instead of nonsense phrases. Other than clogging the email process and selling programs to stop this stuff, I see no purpose for MOST of the spam lately as they are not designed to get you to respond, just annoy.

Since your are not asking to lock the FILE but lock access to the DOWNLOAD ability, why not use the WEBPROTECT option in cpanel? For each person, create a folder. Use WebProtect to put a username/password combination on the folder. All files in that FOLDER would have same password. Store docs for that person in that folder. Then from the web page, link to the file h**p://www.yoursite.com/webpage.htm would link to: /samc1/file1.zip or /samc1/file2.doc or /joef1/file1.zip etc. To download/view the file, the assigned password would be required. You can lock the individual files with passwords if necessary using winzip as Thomas suggested. (For best protection, passwords need to be several digits, mix of uppercase/lowercase/numbers and maybe characters with NO words in the dictionary. 123catdog is not good but 1Ct3a2Dgo would be acceptable.)

I second the PayPal for ease of use, simplicity and quick setup. Not only does PayPal process credit cards now, if your client has a PayPal account they can use that method too. The fees are reasonable and the service is worldwide. You can set up an order page that matches your site and after the payment is done, they can be transferred to another page on your site that gives instructions, thanks them, or other type of confirmation depending on your own preference. PayPal can be used on the most basic of sites and does not require full recoding to take advantage of it.

Congratulations on the new job and home! Hope the transition is easy for you. If you use any standard programs that you will be using at the new location and like to customize your work environment (ex: in word, excel, etc) consider exporting/saving your macros in the VB Modules and/or toolbar settings when possible so you can set up faster at the new location. Note: DON'T use the Save your Settings Wizard for MS Office to do this. If you try to load those settings onto another machine, you will load the serial number and settings from your old office machine onto your new office machine and cause havoc. I did it by accident! (Had 2 copies of the saved settings, office and work, and loaded the WRONG ONE into my home machine on reload and had to get MS involved to undo it fully )

Stats - Hosts Section To Become Working Urls
Samrc replied to charlesleo's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
I usually check out the Referring sites section. This list often has links to the site actively sending visitors to my site. Like to see what the link is and where it is located. This gives me far more insite to the type of visitor, where they came from and depending on the language of the link or page information, it can do more to identify what generated the interest. Unfortunately the Referring sites list also has search engines and sites that don't mean anything too. -
No way you could have expected a 50% off sale on August 1st! Xtreme works well with 3d6 so if you like one you may like to have the other.

Stats - Hosts Section To Become Working Urls
Samrc replied to charlesleo's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
So if I wander to your site and look around, you will then turn around and try to visit my IP? I'm with Bruce on this one. Not nice. It's one thing to track down folks stealing content, bandwidth, etc. But otherwise, you are being too nosy! And makes me wonder what you accomplish by doing it.... -
For anyone that thought they MIGHT be interested in Xara products (photo, vector image, menu, buttons, etc programs), you should know that Xara is having a one day sale that is great. Take a look here: http://www.xara.com/offers/25years/ for more information. Wish I had waited to buy These are WINDOWS programs, but for you Linux folks, XARA will be offering a Linux version soon: "Expect to see Xara Xtreme bundled as standard with some big-name Linux distributions..."

Welcome to the Forums! Even though you reset cookie settings, did they clear temporary internet cache? And have you verified that the case of the user name and password is correct (CAPS is not the same as CapS) Are either of the people using accelerators to speed up connections (some of them can really interfere with many web features)?

My favorite is phone number lookup. First name Last Name city or state Or reverse lookup. You type in the phone number (with area code) and you get the name/address.

Welcome to the Forums! Like Thomas, I also visited the forum and could click anything that is supposed to be clickable. Still need assistance?
