  1. Yup...Disconcerting to get locked out of your own account, but a great protection for you too!
  2. So was a ticket opened? Were the username or password incorrect? Thanks for picking up the thread this afternoon. Had to be away from office and home for a while and didn't expect so much activity today
  3. Is your other website built with FrontPage? Is the other site on TCH server too? How do you publish with the other site? DON'T POST your PASSWORD or USER NAME on the forum. But use this technique to see if your settings are correct. Windows can try to connect to your website. 1. Click on the Start button, and then choose Run… In Windows NT, 2000 or XP, type in: cmd In Windows 95, 98 or ME, type in: command 2. Click on OK. A command prompt will appear in a new window. 3. Type in the following command: ftp <insert host address here> EXAMPLE: C:>ftp ftp.yourwebsitename.com 4. Press Enter on your keyboard 5. You should now be prompted for a username. Type it in and press enter again. 6. You should now be prompted for a password. Type it in and press enter once more. - If all is well, then you should now be connected to the FTP site. Go ahead and type "quit" and hit Enter to exit the commandline FTP program. Use these same settings in your FrontPage publishing host setup screen. - If you can not connect this way, one of the settings you are using is incorrect (address, username, password, etc). You may need to adjust the PASSIVE setting. or you may have a firewall setting that may need to be adjusted. ------------------------------------------- RE: separate FTP SOFTWARE: FrontPage and other web building software have FTP abilities built into the software. FTP is the ability for your computer and the server where you host your website to communicate. You put in specific information into the setup (name of the website, the user name, the password, the folder where you want the files to go, etc) and when you ask the program to publish, it connects to your host, confirms settings and then uploads the files. Since FrontPage has this ability to connect to your site, you probably have never used an FTP program. An FTP program can do the SAME type of connection that FrontPage can do, but even more than transfer just the file that needs changing. A separate FTP program (we listed a few), will give you a WINDOW on your computer that is split screen where you can see YOUR computer files on one side, and the HOSTED website files on the other side of the screen. This window makes it easier to move, transfer, delete files on your website. Much nicer than going through cPanel. SCREEN PRINT OF WHAT AN FTP PROGRAM LOOKS LIKE:
  4. Best way to avoid problems? Follow standard naming practices for page names, downloadable files, music, anchors, subdirectories, images, and ANYTHING YOU POINT TO that can become part of a webpage address. Use lowercase, avoid caps if possible. Some servers, including the TCH Linux servers, will see mypage.htm and MyPage.htm as two different pages and others consider it to be the same page! If you had built your site on a different server that said they are the same and moved your site to one that knows they are different, your links would not work. DO NOT use SPACES in the names. Browsers do not allow spaces in URL addresses so don't do it. DO NOT use SYMBOLS in the names. With the exception of (underline). Worst violation! Browsers do not allow symbols in URL addresses. Keep them short as possible. Really long names can make linking difficult. Examples: BAD: vacation 2005 GOOD: vacation2005 GOOD: vacation_2005 BAD: vacation w/family 2005 GOOD: vacation_with_family_2005 BAD: Photos & Music GOOD: photos_and_music
  5. Welcome to the forums! TCH is tops for reliability and excellent service. Don't hesitate to ask questions. You'll like it here.

    Gridlock

Though I got stuck on a few levels, I finally made it to 38 and can't get out (2dgame). Need to walk away from it for a while. EDITED: made it through 38 and 39 is a real nasty one. EDITED AGAIN: WHOO WHOO . Made it through 40. Addictive! Kevan... really wish you hadn't posted this one!!!
  7. Take a look at this site: OpenSource CMS for some possible software. Can't recommend one specifically, sorry, but if you look through the offerings, you may find one that suit and best of all, you can test it out before downloading and installing!! Very cool site!
  8. Our Canadian family will be celebrating CANADA DAY on Monday July 3rd and our US family has INDEPENDANCE DAY on Tuesday July 4th. Lots of people making this a long weekend for picnics, parties, races, travel and family. Enjoy your holiday but be safe!!!
  9. Welcome to the forums Anton
  10. Same shaking red car on level 4 Give up did not clear screen. Ended up having the little roads from 4 overlay the first screen.
  11. Sorry to hear about your nephew. I would opt for the Wordpress blog also. Perfectly suited for this type of application.
  12. Any update? Have you considered using an FTP program so you can see both your own files and the folders on the web at the same time? You would be able to upload more pages at one time also.
  13. Welcome to the forum, fivesparrows!
  14. Got someone in our office that uses it on a key so let him know to upgrade! Thanks for heads up!

    Software

Any HTML editor (including the very basic NotePad) or HTML generator can be used to produce web pages supported by TCH. Some programs have built-in FTP functions and others require you to have a separate program to upload your files to your site. Either way, the resulting pages will work on your TCH hosted site. FrontPage is a special case. If you used that program to build a site you would need to shop for a host that specifically lists "FrontPage supported". Not all hosts can do it, but of course TCH does.
  16. When I first loaded the page http://montufarcpa.com/Espanol/Intro_es.html into IE 6, the buttons on the right side did not load. I got the JAVA (little coffe cup logo) instead. Then I refreshed and all the blue rollover buttons loaded properly and worked well. Could the error be related to JAVA needing to be updated on your machine?
  17. Its an interesting idea, but gives Google even more power and access. Kinda big-brother.
  18. Sounds like a winner to me. If that's not possible, then set it in your reminders to contact them about it annually. Can their accounting system be set for an annual renewal reminder? Some can. Then reminder emails would not be an issue.
  19. Excellent. Glad it was resolved so quickly for you!
  20. The new service will allow people to put in a credit card once, then surf the net and buy from several sites, PROVIDED those sites have an advertising arrangement with GOOGLE. Businesses listed on GOOGLE, but not taking part in this Checkout program, will not be able to sell products in that manner.
  21. So sorry you and your dog had to go through this ordeal. That pup is truly lucky to have you as the owner/caretaker. Glad to hear the good news on her recovery and your neighbor's attitude.

  23. Thank you for the kind words! TCH is indeed special.
  24. The other side of the coin... Even if you found a host that will not filter your outgoing mail in any way, and allowed you to send any attachment you wanted chances are very good that it would not be received on the other end! Most ISP's have a block list as do antivirus filters too! Most of us here have had to send files to newbies and give instructions how to access. If you are uncomfortable with this process or it takes too long, have you ever considered loading these potentially vulnerable files to a protected area of a website and allowing your newbie access to DOWNLOAD the files you want to supply? Almost anyone can click a link, and type in a password to get to the file! This process avoids email entirely. The days of emailing just ANY file without zipping or changing the file extension to get the file through are long gone. Learn to grow and adapt or you will become as angry and miserable as the person that still wants to use BETA tapes for movies or 8-Track tapes to listen to music and can't understand why there are no new releases in his chosen format. Good luck!
