Good link, Steve. Thanks! As for communicator, it is great if you can get the AOL user to get the email from other sources using it. In my case, my client wanted everything like it always has been and so I had to forward from TCH to a 3rd party email service and then from there to AOL. There are always solutions so if anyone has an unusual situation then by all means post here and we'll be happy to help you figure out a solution. Many of us have probably been there already and even if we haven't I'm sure we can come up with something.

Hi Rowan, Someone who can say for sure will be by shortly but I wanted to mention that you may want to consider a dedicated server. That would be one way to do what you want, perhaps there are other solutions.

Or, to say it another way, "Is it worth $4/month for peace of mind?" I had this situation with my last host. His machines were down more often than not so I had to monitor them myself and worry about them. I've gotten lots of good night's sleep since moving to TCH because these guys have all the gadgets and backup systems that THEY know when it's down and get it going ASAP so I don't have to. For me it's an easy decision. Good hunting for a new host or good luck trying to sleep at night.

Mail to them is ok. What they are talking about is setting up an email forward so that any email that comes to joe@****** is forwarded to joe2342@aol.com The problem is when spam comes to ****** and it's automatically forwarded to AOL by the email forwarder in your cpanel then AOL thinks it's coming from the TCH server. Any email originating from you will not be affected by this... just automatic forwarding.

Funny how a "Dreamweaver template versus PHP includes" question turns into a WYSIWYG versus hand-coding. That beside the point, the code Dreamweaver generates depends upon your understanding of HTML, PHP, CSS, etc, and upon your understanding of how to use Dreamweaver itself. I have several sites generated by DW and would daresay that the code is as heavy as I caused it to be. One site is a built-in CSS template thing and it's pretty heavy. In fact, several template-style pages have extra crud in them because DW has to mark what's part of the template and what's not. Other sites, on the other hand, have almost zero extra code in them. All were created in DW but some were created with the "lazy-man's" features and others were made with care to get them right. In fact, look at covenantwordchurch.org to see a real-life example of a site created completely in DreamWeaver. It has a couple of bytes that can be stripped but it is nothing noticeable even on a 56k dialup connection. Granted, if you use the fancy flashy buttons and drop menus it can get nasty, but they are nasty by nature. With all that said, Jim's right that if you only have a few hours to learn only one thing then PHP/HTML is a better choice than any WYSIWYG editor but, as I said, DW would be a good future project if you decided to go that way.

Although it's an inconvenience to many, I think this is a good move in order to protect all of our family members from being on a server that gets blacklisted. AOL certainly does nothing to investigate the source of the spam and would rather shut down a server than take a minute to check it out. It's unfortunate but is in our best interests as clients of TCH. I even had my account suspended when I first joined because of AOL's laziness. Everyone was great in helping me figure out what was going on but if the server had been blacklisted then folks couldn't send legit email to AOL on my server so it could have been serious. If it inconveniences you then just consider how inconvenient it would be to you if your server-neighbor got your server blacklisted and you sent legit email out that was trashed without notice to you... that would be even worse. Thanks Mike and Bill for being gutsy enough to make the tough decisions in order to keep things going smoothly.

Bill, What features of Maxthon can't you replicate in Firefox? I'm curious because I hear the statement fairly often but no one has ever told me exactly what they are.

I just downloaded it and side by side with Firefox on the same machine it seems to be equal or a bit slower. They're about the same on startup for me but on a page with lots of pictures after clearing the cache FF took 5 seconds and Opera 8. There are probably aspects of each that is faster than the other but I don't think it's a big enough change by itself to consider changing. Of course, there are many features each of them have so everyone has to make their decisions for themselves.

I use Dreamweaver all the time and I love it. But... If you only want to make one change to update your entire site then you should go with PHP. It's not too difficult once you get the hang of it and while DreamWeaver does a great many things, the templates have one shortcoming. With PHP, if you want to change your header you can update one file and then upload it. With the DreamWeaver templates you would need to update one file and upload every file that is changed. It's very inefficient in that way for the types of things people like us usually do. (I still love DreamWeaver and recommend it as a "secondary goal" for the future perhaps.)

Welcome to the family, Ilsy! If your site is brand new then it may be awhile to get onto Google. I was just reading an article in an expert SEO forum that was saying that of all the people they work with, it is taking around 6 months for new sites to show up in Google. As far as promotion, there are several articles in the forums here and never forget, Google's not the only game in town and search engines are not the only way to advertise.

Agreed, Ghost is a very powerful and well made product from what I see at work. It's probably overkill for an average user, but a power user like Bill may find it fits the bill (no pun intended). Definitely check it out.

Samantha, Tell your brother to go get his own copy because, as much as you love him (if that's the case ) the numbers are all tracked and he could drag you down with him for stealing... Sure, it's not as likely that MS would come after you "little guys" but who knows what they'll do with the info later. I agree with everything Mike said except the last experience I had with emachines was about 5 years ago and they stank at that time... but things change. I have Dell for my desktop and love it to death - especially the way they let you customize everything. I have an HP laptop that (long story) I had to get because of the circumstances and didn't expect as much out of it but it's been way better than I expected. I had an HP desktop that was a major pain (it quit working with my HP printer) and the support was a nightmare! Those guys had me running in circles for 10 months and I got ticked and trashed the computer! I use a higher-end Compaq at work and it's been fine but to buy new I'd go Dell. Of course, everyone has their own preferences and most of them are based on personal horror stories so take all this for what it's worth (not much.) Congrats on your "lettuce" blower and the ability to get a new toy! Just make sure you pick the one you want instead of settling for something less.

The problem seems to be in the feature that hilights your search terms. It is not working for me either. Bill did say to update this forum, but have you submitted a helpdesk ticket yet? That error message that shows up will point the techy guys at the program that's having the problem and they may be able to track it down or else lengthen the timeout.
