Does your boyfriend/his sister use OE? If they use the same computer it may be in an OE file that she could access. Also, if he has his Earthlink password memorized in a password manager feature of Windows then she could get in without needing to know the password. Also, if he sends something to you and her and you accidentally hit "Reply All" then it will go to him and her. Could this have happened? I would bet my life (which I don't do lightly) that Earthlink didn't just happen to send it to her account on AOL... what are the chances of them even knowing her username if they wanted to - she's not their customer. I'm sure you didn't email her so it's likely that either she's a little sharper than you think she is and found the file fragments or it's something like OE leaving the email in a folder they both can see. Now, if your email was through Totalchoice Hosting then our techs would be able to check headers for you to see what happened

Wow! I just heard a rumor and checked the rank in Google for one of my clients and I found a late Christmas present!!!! For a long time (around a year) Google has had absolutely terrible pages ranking highly for search terms. Everyone was frustrated with many calling Google "broken". Finally it seems they have their algorithms ironed out and they're much better. In my particular case, here are some examples of the changes from about a month ago: >Old Rank New Rank Term 141 20 Key West Fishing 141 4 Key West fishing trip 237 14 Key West fishing guide 116 2 Key West charter boat 133 1 Key West fishing charterboat As you can see, a very competitive term has moved from 141 to 20 and some more specific ones have done much better. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come from Google and it's not just a passing fad.

What board is it you are trying to reset? It's not very nice to assume "one of the admins must of hit something"... there are probably many explanations for what is hindering you. In any regards, we would need more information to be able to answer your question.

The problem of out-of-date 3rd party software is not just relating to the current issues even though they are the ones that are in the front of everyone's mind. If TCH sent notices to only users with XYZBlogger then what happens next month when ABCGuestbook has a similar problem because 100 users have not kept it up to date? The new policy, as explained in the email, is to keep all of your software up to date and if you don't and it affects other users on your server then you will be immediately suspended. I would suggest that you and everyone else, myself included, update any old software and not worry so much about pointing fingers at specific software. If it is all up to date then what does it matter which one is a problem? If we have out-dated software then shouldn't we be like Nike with regards to the update and "just do it"?

I believe it to be because of my favorite Pet Peeve... the one-man-band approach to software authoring. In the beginning a program did a thing. If it was an email program it did email. If it was a calendar it held dates, if it was a contact manager it managed my contacts. Then came greed. In order for me to take money away from you, I wrote an email program that can do everything your calendar program does and also everything Joe-Bob's contact manager can do. Why not? After all, it's everyone for themselves, right? Nevermind that the basic user that wants to read email will never need a contact manager. Then came the corporate money which fed the greed monster. If big business could be sold on my product then I'm set. If I can convince Fortune 500 companies that with my software they can save millions by online collaboration then I'll be rich! So now days we have big, nasty, unruly, bug-infested software that we spend hundreds for and use only a small percentage of throughout the land. The greed monster rules and everyone fears it because they will be swallowed up by it. Small programmers have no chance and the large ones keep doing what they are doing - trying to beat the little guy out of the game. The examples speak mostly of Outlook but the same kind of thing is true with Windows. They add in IM and special "hidden secrets" that make Office work better than anything else possibly could and create it so the internet, which is the latest craze, looks just like the OS so everyone wants to use them and they end up giving the keys to the OS to the wob browsers. Stupid indeed but again driven by greed to chase the others out of business (IM clients, web browsers, etc.)

Do not post your email addresses here, but go to google and enter them to see if they show up on any pages... yours or otherwise. There may be some jerk out there posting email addresses for the spammers to hit or something equally evil.

Unfortunately, a list of problematic software would cause many to say "I don't have any of that" and dismiss the new rule which states It really is imperative that everyone keep all of their 3rd party software up to date to avoid the exploits that are sure to come when they are discovered.

For anyone following this thread, I did a search on picking good passwords, because it's been said so many times there's no sense in doing it again, and found this page which is a great start toward totally secure passwords. Note: There is no such thing as a totally secure password. Any password can be brute-forced given enough time. Security experts all know that "secure" means "my stuff is protected by a code that is harder to crack than the information inself is worth." If I want to keep my dog's birthday a secret from him then a blank password is enough. If I want to keep it secret from my mom then a common word and a number is enough. If I am in charge of protecting the launch codes for the entire US Nuclear arsenal then I'll need a team of math experts, crypto experts, armed soldiers, top of the line biometric scanners, etc.

Sorry you're not feeling up to your best. I doubt it's the hurricanes but it could be since that much wind has to stir up stuff, but is it that or just germs coming in from other places? Any time we have a sick-spell here we Key Westers usually attribute it to tourists bringing their favorite bug with them and we don't have any immunities built up against it or it's the wind shifting and blowing crud from the Everglades. Right now there's a pretty big Red Tide heading our way along the west coast so you never know what's the true cause of it. Anyway, get better soon, ok?!?

Yes, that is true and unfortunately the only thing Symantec has is a "update our definitions and here's how to manually remove it." They don't actually remove the bug. The bad thing is that our defs were updated last Wednesday so how did this old thing get in there? I'm really wondering if it's a new variant or a new worm completely. Thanks for the pointer Thomas.

Does anyone know of a removal tool for the Randex virus that works? We have hit the search engines and couldn't find anything. Our network at work is a netwon't right now. The thing is bogging down to a crawl with all the worm traffic and we IT guys are getting slaughtered on this one. It's even causing accounts to lock out because of bad password attempts. The only thing we have seen is "randex" and that's from our symantec corporate edition AV software. If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears.

All plans have the same limitations to prevent spam. Many users here use a package named Dada mail to break it up into easily chewed batches which will then pass the limiter. Do a search in the forums for "mailing list" or dada for more info. Looking forward to you coming on board and welcome to the forum!

I usually just forget them and use the "forgot password" option. I have a set of 4 passwords that I use on most things. It's not as safe as it should be but... I have one I use as a throwaway - I don't care if the world knows it because it's just for stupid things. I have a second one that's for kinda secure things like email accts, etc. I have a third that's only used places I trust a lot like the bank. I have a fourth that I use for work systems. There are a few others that I use but that's about 80% of all the things I use.

Not to discourage you from moving here and joining our family because I obviously believe in TCH as the best host anywhere, but if such a spike caused you to go over your plan's bandwidth your site would be suspended until you contacted the support staff and worked out a bandwidth increase. They are very good about boosting the bandwidth as soon as a customer tells them they have run out and need help but they also don't monitor the usage to see if anyone goes over so you'd be responsible to notify them of the situation. Congrats on the Instalanche!

The bill is always processed on the same date. You could check with billing on the helpdesk and then keep that date in your favorite reminder system. I'm not sure there is an online lookup for such information but if there is someone will be along shortly to let us know about it.
