Hi ShadyDW! As Rob said, read the other tutorials and posts but focus on keyword selection at first. With the number of pages out there today, the only way you can rank in the top 10 for a term as vague as "T-shirt" is to spend probably hundreds of thousands of dollars. Optimization alone can not get you in the top-10 for a general term like that. Instead, think about the people your shirts would appeal to. Maybe "Funny Saying T-Shirts" or "Quality pocket T-shirts" or something like that. You'd need to make a list of all the phrases that best describe your type shirts and then check the search engines to see how much competition there is and use something like overture to see what demand there is for such phrases. Pick the ones with the most visitors looking for it and the least competition and aim for those phrases as "keyword phrases". In today's internet, you have to find a niche or have a bazillion dollars for buying your way into the top of the lists... otherwise there are too many others who will beat you. The internet is becoming like everything else as it matures - cable classifies channels as family, sport, movie or adult - the phone book lists doctors under Family Doctor, Podiatrist, Dermatologist, Internal medicine, etc... the same with the Internet - t-shirts are best found when grouped by prints, features, who is wearing them (casual t-shirts versus sports t-shirts for example.) etc. Of course, you could try the more shady methods of getting high on the list but Google just removed a ton of sites for using such techniques... it's at your own risk and almost never pays off in the long run.

Check on the internet for graphics watermark programs. These programs allow you to put a mark in your picture that can prove it's yours. They can be either visible or invisible... they can make undetectable-to-the-eye changes that the computer can decode with your name or other identifying data. As was said, if they can see it on their screen then they can save it on their computer but you can mark it so you can win in court.

Hi Sheryl, You can find out all about these boards at their respective web sites - phpbb.com and invisionboard.com which has all kinds of info. It may be more info than you want but something we may consider irrelevant may be very important to you so it's best to check them out at the source.

If not currently then there could be. All of the Microsoft Office products have scripting languages that are very powerful. Unfortunately, it takes about 3 lines of programming and flipping a switch to create a database that will delete all the files on C: when you open it. Power comes with risk and the risk is too high for most places to allow such emails to pass without the user having to go to a fair amount of effort to activate it... such as unzipping and then running. My workplace has the exact same kind of thing in place and our users still get viruses - I'd hate to think about it if we didn't have those protections because I'm in the IT department and would have to do the recoveries... not a fun thing to think about. Sorry for the inconvenience but it is indeed not that uncommon.

Yes, the caches come from being around a bit. They probably are cacheing them but just haven't worked out the presentation part yet. Who knows, it could be a marketing scheme where they let people say how much they like this or that feature and then provide it for them. How do you know it doesn't read those file formats - they may do it but not admit to it yet for the above or other reasons. The improvement to Google is definitely what I'm hoping for. At the current rate of things, Google would be hard to displace by another search engine so I'm hoping this makes them get better.

Competition is awesome, especially in that field! Google has become the Microsoft of the search engines... it's the one everyone goes to because it's familiar but they have become sloppy and fairly irrelevant. I like MSN right now because the results seem more relevant, but I heard that they are actually spidering Google results to get their database up to size quickly. They'll get a lot of junk and it will take several weeks to months to work out their algorithms to filter the junk -- even if their programming is superior. One of my clients is on Google at position 148 but on MSN at 10 for the best keyword phrase, so it's looking promising.

I don't know of a demo for the "Web Hosting Manager" which is the reseller's "master cpanel" but it's not hard at all. To allocate space all you have to do is set up a package telling it how much bandwidth and disk space the package can use, create the account for the domain, assing the domain to one of the packages you established and you're on your way. Of course you have to get the domain name and point it here to TCH but that's true either way. The reseller route is definitely much easier to manage IMO. I am like Rob in that I have about 7 domains and don't resell anything other than a small fee to the places I have designed the websites for hosting, but that's not a pure reseller type thing.

We just ask that everyone not turn this into a me-too thread. In the past someone mentioned linking and the whole topic went to pot because there were 30 "yeah, me too"s added. Please, by all means continue talking about any topics you desire that fit with hosting but we have to insist that public requests for links in the forums not happen. I'm not fussing about the existing conversation - just don't want it to go down that road. For now, it's all good. If you send emails to people with similar sites they will probably respond the same way or "sure, if you link to me." Many people understand that it is the best way to get seen. It's similar to what some businesses say... "If you see something you don't like, please tell me. If you see something you do like, please tell your friends. - Manager" Word of mouth is the best advertising method out there and links are web pages version of word of mouth.

You can also look for directories of sharpening tools, fansites or anti-establishment sites and add yourself to those niche directories. They are easier to get into and are almost all spidered by the bigger engines. Like Rob said, ask... send a note to the webmaster and say "I think our visitors would be interested in each other's sites so I would like to exchange links with you." You can do a manual submission, but submitting to Google, Yahoo, etc is almost, but not entirely, completely useless. They just don't look at that as much nowdays.

Hi Cocomutt... I wouldn't worry much about it. Very few of the search engines even pay much attention to submissions. All of the big ones will find your site if other sites already in the search engines link to it. That's one of the great things about the Add Me To The Family forum and corresponding Family Sites page. Excessive submission may cause a problem, but one submit will probably make zero difference. Just make sure other sites link to you and you'll get in there just fine. Best wishes!

In my opinion it doesn't matter who calls it up or down time. Check through the forums here under Current Server Issues. Some may have nothing in it and others will have a few entries. Look through them and see how fast issues are resolved and how well the customer is taken care of and make your own decisions from that. TCH has always stood on it's track record instead of a lot of hype that some others rely upon.

No, there are no TCH taglines or advertisements in outgoing member emails. When you get your domain hosted here then your happiness will be all the advertisement needed.

Warn everyone that has already signed up that you will be sending emails and give them the email address it will be coming from. Also, make your title obvious so they immediately know it's about the band and not just "Hello!" or other vague wording. Congrats on them being selected! Added: The above steps will help prevent them from "turning in" your email as spam to their providers and will make your life easier.

It also depends on which standards you are trying to validate for. The most strict would disallow any placement or style things from the main page. Everything from centers to fonts to colors. The more casual standard would allow most of these. Don has a great example here of how to do it the strict way. Thumbs Up

"9-nothing" is after "1-0" alphabetically. It doesn't ignore it but it looks at it like saying "BBC" is after "American Broadcasting Service" - remember, the computer does not understand that these are numbers.

Almost 60% of the eligible people voted - that's awesome! I am very pleased that there was a quick decision - we did not need another case like 2000! Everyone I know and saw from the candidates to the voters have been civil and it was great to see that. There were reports of people being nasty and even some here going to jail for stealing signs out of yards but those were isolated cases. In our county we have the fill-in-the-circle type balots and we had everything counted by 8:30. That's pretty good for a county that's over 100 miles long! Too bad everyone doesn't use the same machine, whichever it is.

Other than being "penalised" for some British disabilities act, I found a few other things interesting. Why should I add a form for the sake of adding a form? How does that make my site any more interactive? It seems a contrived metric to me. Also, - the only thing is that I say our daycare is "sponsored by" the church. What a lame reason to dock a site. Agreeing with others, look at it, enjoy it, see if anything is reasonable that they suggest but then set it aside and don't take it for more than it's worth. It is good food for thought in a couple of cases on my sites though, thanks for the site!

It's checking to see if the string "9" > "10" which the character "9" is greater than the character "1". Remember, as strings the computer looks character by character.
