  1. cool ... I'll add that to my growing list of supprt notes! -kw
  2. just my opinions ... unfortunately, today's world is requiring us to more and more lock all the doors first, and then determine which doors need to be unlocked. Microsoft, for too many years (not to pick on them, but as an example) would release software with everything unlocked. but that is changing fast. just today, I had a lawyer get a new computer, and he calls me up and asks why he is not getting any attachments with his email! guess what? Microsoft know is enabling High Security in Outlook by default. there is a bright side to this whole issue -- if you, who has the responsibility to secure your company's network, cannot break it, then the average Joe or Sally inside the office won't be able to break, and it stands well that those on the outside will have a harder time breaking in. seems to me that whatever security features are required and demanded for your company or my company, should be equally expected for TCH. Just yesterday the head guru (thanks Bill) patched cPanel for all servers in order to address security issues recently identified. He was on top of it as soon as it was available. -kw
  3. SpamAssassin will allow you to create both a blacklist (the bad boys) and a whitelist (the good ones) thru a hidden, user preference file: ~/.spamassassin/user_prefs By hidden, I mean that if using an FTP program like CuteFTP or WsFTP, you will need to enable the program to display hidden/system files. As far as editing the user preferences, I personally have not done it, but here is a link to the Spam Assassin web page: http://spamassassin.org/doc/Mail_SpamAssas...r%20preferences HTH! kw
  4. First, welcome to TCH! Second, perhaps you could start by identify which software it is that you are trying to use? Is it ine that comes with cPanel, or some other product? -kw
  5. Installing phpbb via the cPanel is as easy as everyone has said it is - even I did it! Listed below are the instructions I wrote down when I did it. I'm wondering if your problem is associated with the fact that you tried to down load and install phpbb manually rather than using cPanel. If so, suggest you go to the TCH help desk and drop a ticket there. Here are my instructions for installing phpbb via cPanel: Setup: 1. Click on Tools, then Setup Forums/Bulletin Boards 2. Enter a directory name to be used (eg. forums), and click Install. 3. A confirmation screen appears. Click on Go Back. Administration: 1. Point your browser to your forum using the following URL format: http://www.******/forums where forums is the name you entered in step 2 above 2. Login using your main web site's account name and pasasword 3. The Administrative phpbb screen will appear
  6. cPanel is accessed thru port 2082 Webmail thru port 2095 Yes, many company firewalls will routinely block ports. It doesn't hurt to contact your company's network administrator and ask. -kw
  7. Thanks, Bill, for staying on top of these security issues. -kw
  8. Lianna -- if you can document 'how' to do this and send it to me via email, I will include it in the upcoming TCH help site. -kw
  9. If the head guru is reading this --- why not add something to the welcome letter that goes out to new customers and provide them with a link to the page with the TCH logos and banners! -kw
  10. whatever you do or get, be sure it's not one of those "win modems" - which are strictly software controlled modems. they are the ultra cheap modems, and do not ever (in my experience) provide the thruput and performance that a valid real modem provides. Read: Winmodems are not modems: http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html Beware soft modems: http://www.56k.com/reports/winmodem.shtml -kw
  11. go to http://tch.kwsupport.com/ and click on the Logos link which will take you to the actual page with tCH logos and banners! enjoy. -kw
  12. FYI, Bob Parsons is of Parsons Technology fame back in the mid 90's -- they ran a very successful software company selling PC software for $19 -- I used their tax and checkwriting program for years! Scams stink. Scammers stink. And scams and scammers can be tricky. Know how to detect scammers! -kw
  13. Bill, Glad you appreciate the support we give here at TCH! We have quite a few knowledgeable phpbb users here (but I'm not one of them!) -- so make use of their expertise. -kw
  14. Don't beat yourself up too much ... all those who are resellers had to learn the same as you. I'm in the process of building some new support pages for TCH, and we'll try to address some of these "newbie" reseller issues! Don't be afraid to ask any questions! BTW ... Go 'Noles! -kw
  15. Yes, the last time I tried to use the cPanels web site submission, I got those errors for a couple of the web sites it tried to access. -kw
  16. http://www.ultraedit.com/ Although, not free I have used UltraEdit has my notepad / text editor of choice for many years. It doesn't have the cool javascripts built in like CoffeeCup, but whether you need to edit HTML, Javascript, CGI, Perl,COBOL, Basic or anything else - it's there for you! You can easily have multiple documents open simultaneously. -kw
  17. Most of the information you are looking for is on the cPanel front page of your web site. Also, go to http://tch.kwsupport.com/tools.htm and download the env.zip file. It contains a free script (env.pl) that you simply upload to your web site and when you run it , it will give your more info that you probably will ever need! In fact, I have a link there so you can go ahead and run the copy on my web site! HTH, kw
  18. You're not allowed to have fun! That's not fair!!!! :-( kw
  19. What's the goal? I'm just curious -- trying to figure out what you would end up with for a URL. If your URL is www.mysite.com, and you create a subdomain called 'mail', then the URL is mail.mysite.com . So, if you try to create a subdomain of 'work' within your mail subdomain, do you end up with work.mail.mysite.com or mail.work.mysite.com ? And since one of the goals (IMO) with subdomains is to make URLs easier, not harder --- I'd question the effort required. Mind you, I'm not saying you're right ore wrong - just curious! :-) kw
  20. Yes, create a package first, even a basic one with 50mb of disk, email users, etc. And give it a name. Then when you want to create a new web site for one of your customers, you start by selecting a package. check out the WHM online documentation at: http://www.cpanel.net/docs/whm/ -kw
  21. Glad to be of help. I learned a long time ago the value of having Google as my default home page, and learning to use it to my advantage! -kw
  22. Terry, No real trade secrets with AWSTATS. The information Rick gave you was previously identified, and is even posted in the AWSTATS web site site. At issue, though, is how to allow someone to maintain such modifications without restricxting TCH's ability to push future AWSTATS down to each of us. As TCH is currently looking at the features of the various STATS package, I'm sure we'll take into consideration such issues as has been raised here. Stay tuned ... as they say ... for more! kw
  23. I don't know Frontpage, but try: http://www.lse.ac.uk/web/pdf/validationmai...ilform-2000.pdf -or- http://www.uwec.edu/help/Fpage00/for-addopt.htm -kw
  24. Found a place offering SSL certs for $149 ($119 for renewals), as opposed to some places that charge $300 or more. http://geotrust.com/quickssl/index.htm You still need to pay TCH to install and maintain the SSL certificate for you ($85/yr) -kw
  25. they say you are as young as you feel -- but what if you can't feel anything anymore? :-( kw
