  2. Tony, if people cannot or do not have a help desk signon, is that the best thing to do (emailing you?). If os, I'll be sure to add it somewhere on our new Help web site. -kw
  3. TCH implemented a new help desk system last month; you should have received a new letter. If not, go to TCH Support Contact and scroll down to communicate with TCH Helpdesk directly. -kw

  10. Since last May, I have been working with a 15" flat plasma screen. My eyes finally had had enough. So, I thought, let's look for a 17" (like Lianna was looking last month). Prices had been tumbling, and then I realized, that a 17" was not just going to give me the boost I needed. Most of the 19" were in the $850 range. I then stumbled onto a Nec MultiSunc 1920NX LCD for $707 ont he Internet. No way, I said. But it was true. I checked a couple of other places, and some reviews, and said "Why not?". So, as any good "spur of the moment" buyer would do, I pulled out my credit card, and ordered it before my wife could say "It's time for dinner". That was on Friday evening. Tonight, my wife and daughter went out to Barnes & Nobles Bookstore to use up a gift certificate we had received. We love bookstores. I was going to go, but at the last minute, something inside said - nah, hang around the house. Five minutes after they left, I discovered "what Browhnhas been doing for me lately!" - as the UPS guy pulled up with my 19" digital monitor! Powered off my computer, plugged that sucker into my digital video card, and rebooted -- and it's like they turned on the lites in Georgia --- whoah I can see again! Hallelujah, I can see again! -kw Sorry, Lianna if this sounds like rubbing it in - but my 51 (almost 52) year old eyes just wasn't going to hack it any longer! I'll post some pictures AFTER I have fun rubbing it in for a few more hours! Ciao!
  11. Rick, yea I used to have a 300 baud acoustic coupler. I limited my remarks to 1200 baud because that 's when I tried to first access the old Compuserve support network! Boy, and when Hayes came out with there 2400 baud smart modem ... I even had PC's linked together with that! -kw
  12. Welcome to our neighboorhood, then! Mr. Rogers would probably enjoy it here as well -- gosh I'll miss him! When my girls were growing up, we would watch Sesame Street, followed by Mr. Rogers every afternoon. They would sometimes get bored with him, but I always had to wait for the little trolley to make its visit! Goodbye, Mister Rogers! -kw
  13. What is it that you don't know what to do? A. How to order your Silver plan? Click here to order! B. How to order a domain name? Click here to order a domain name C. But if you're really bored, visit our new TCH Help & Support Site! -kw

  15. Rules to live by when dealing with the Internet (in no particular order): 1. No question is considered "stupid" 2. We all were "newbies" at one time 3. Learn to use Google! 4. if something doesn't work, don't break it ... it's probably solar flares! 5. If you think the internet is slow, just think what it was like when we were using 1200 baud modems! 6. Learn to use Google! 7. what you see is NOT what you always get ... unless you are using a Mac! 8. Spam and popup windows is God's way of reminding us that we are not all powerful! 9. Really, really, really learn to use Google 10. Take time off to take your family or friends out for a hot fudge sundae. A hot fudge sundae beats working on a computer any day of the week! Oh, did I mention that you should learn to use Google? :-) kw

  17. just checked it from my system Windows XP Pro with IE6 SP1 - no problems! -kw
  18. If anyone is thinking about trying to implement Erik's code, understand: 1. The code goes at the start of each and every web page (or at least every page you wish to track!) 2. You will also need to rename each of those web pages, changing the suffix from .html/.html to .php -kw
  19. Use HTML code something like this: <a href="yourfile.pdf"><u>View My PDF file</u></a> You can see an example of this in action on the new TCH Help Site. We have some preliminary PDF files available for viewing. Click here! -kw
  20. Need to make a quick animated 'click here' type of banner for free? Check out Banner Forge! Here's an example of what you can make with it in about 2 minutes: -kw
  21. You can prepay for a year with TCH, and when you do, you get your last month free. (Sounds like a Baker's dozen to me). When you sign up with TCH, you will have access to cPanel to control your web site. Through cPanel you have access to configure and implement discussion boards, chat rooms, shopping carts, and a host of other features! We even let you Test Drive cPanel before signing up! We have also just brought online a new TCH Help Site with lot's of stuff, including a boatload of Movie Tutorials covering topics from Email to FTP to FrontPage to changing your DNS! -kw
  22. Many of us have a long tradition of providing peronal user support. We've been on both sides of the fence (providing answers and needing answers) - so we know what it's like to resolving an issue. We cannot always be all things to all people, but we do try to at least respond quickly even if we don;t have an answer! Glad you are happy with our support. -kw
  23. I have used PDF995 successfully in creating documents that are going to a printer for prepartion of a printed catalog. The way it works is that PDF995 is listed as a printer! So anything you can print, can be used to create a PDF document. One thing worth noting: if you are working with graphics, and want really a really good resolution when converting into PDF format, select the PDF995 as your printer, then select preferences, then select advanced, and change (increase) your graphics quality from the default 300dpi. You can go as high as 2540dpi! Finally, if you have a need to merge several different documents (say a Word file, an Excel file, and other things) into a single PDF document, there is an add on module to PDF995 caled PDFEDIT995 which will let you do exactly that! kw
  24. when you sign up with TCH, you have the ability to install FrontPAge Extensions via your cPanel menu interface. the bug that was mentioned is if you are using FP2000.
  25. This information came in this morning via Brian Livingston, who has wwritten weekly Windows articles for Infoworld for many years. IF you have ever run Disk Cleanup on a Win2K/XP machine, you know that there is often an extremely long delay while it tries to calculate how much space you could save if you were to compress your files. Well, Brian reports on how to bypass that whole process of calculating the possible disp space savings. The result is that you get an instaneous Disk Cleanup, just like we used to have on Win98 systems! Here are the steps: 1. Click on Start > Run > Regedt32.exe 2. Backup your current registry. To do this, click on File > Export and enter a name. (I suggest using the date as part of your name, as in backup-reg-mar-3-2003) 3. After you have backed up your registry, drill down as follows: HKey Local Machine > Software > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Explorer > Volume Caches > Compress Old Files 4. In the right hand pane, double click on the REG_SZ (default) variable to edit it 5. A window pops up that will have a long string of characters in the Value Data field: B50F5260-0C21-11D2-AB56-00A0C9082678 6. Press DEL to remove (clear out) the value data field, then click OK and then exit the RegEdit program. Note: we are NOT deleting the actual key, just the value assigned to the key! 7. That's it, and you don't even have to reboot! -kw
