  1. In general, when you sign up for a web site there is literally nothing inside the public_html directory which is where your web site goes. Whatever is on your web site, or whatever your web site requires (such as cookies) is what you would have decided to include on your web site. TCH itelf requires nothing, and neither does Linux. Saying that, if you would post your web site's URL perhaps someone can take a look. Did you perhaps include a shopping cart or some other application that may require cookies? -kw
  2. they reside on your site, your server! With TCH and cPanel, you have the ability to backup your MmySQL dsatabase and assign user access to it as well. -kw
  3. This software, with a 30 day free trial, will inspect your web site for valid links, and generate a report. http://www.relsoftware.com/ -kw
  4. thanks for the info! kw
  5. Anytime I suggest that someone should submit a help desk ticket, I remind them to include their userid and password. A suggestion: by default the help desk ticket form automatically preloads all the fields with the domain name. Perhaps someone can get that modified so that the userid and password fields are blank, but make them required fields. -kw
  6. Kerri, welcome to the TCH family! It can take up to 12 hours to assign and set your site up on one of our servers. Your email will then give you a temporary IP address so you can start exploring and setting things up. -kw
  7. If you are using Windows XP, check out Microsoft's free Powertoys for XP at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/dow...s/powertoys.asp It includes automatic image resizer and an HTML slideshow utility! -kw
  8. For those maintaining web sites and doing other network activities, Sam Spade provides a free Window based network program. Check out its features at: http://www.samspade.org/ssw/features.html -kw
  9. As to transferring domain names -- once you sign up a web site with tCH, you will receive an email message identifying the two DNS nameserver addresses to use. You would then contact the registrar service that you originally used to order the domain name, and change the DNS name server entries there. As you may know, once you make the update to the DNS nameserver, it can take 24-72 hours for it to propogate the Internet. That means that you cannot nor should not expect that immediately your domain name will be routed to your new TCH location. Finally, it would be good to have already republished your web site from the old web site to the new TCH web site, and leave both there. Once you have verified that the DNS nameserver update has propogated the Internet, you could then remove your files from the old server. -kw
  10. Thanks for letting us know that the information helped! -kw
  11. You asked "Why would anyone want to keep email on a server"? Answer: I have several customers I routinely visit and provide support. When I am at one of these sites, I usually have a workstation available to me, and I generally configure Outlook or Outlook Express with my personal or business email address so that I can still conduct business and reply to other people when I am not in my office. In these cases, I would configure the email client at these sites to "leave my mail at the server". That way, when I get back to my office and open up my email, it will all get downloaded again from the server. And here is where I hdo NOT have it marked as "leave on the server". Now, I would suggest (my opinion only) that leaving email on your web server for long term archival is NOT good practice or policy. That is why most web servers will limit the amount of email that can be held. -kw
  12. I have usedanother piece of software for many years to do exactly the same thing, create an automatic web page with thumbnails and full size pictures. So, I have not had a need to look elsewhere. But the person who created the software I use (ThmIndxr) has not updated it in awhile. So, it's nice to have an alternative in the back pocket! -kw
  13. Gratned ... you can always "move up" to another web development software, but if you are just getting your feet wet with it all, the old motto: "you gotta crawl before you walk, and you gotta walk before you run" is still one to follow! -kw
  14. I have one customer on TCH that received this same email message. I believe you can safely delete the message from your inbox. I was told that it might show up if you were trying to create an IMAP connection (rather than a POP3 or SMTP connection) to the maiul server. In my case, my customer happened to have been having some email problems due to configuring their Outlook wrong. Bottom line, it should be a one time occurrence. But you may need to go up to your email account (via web mail) on your server and clean those particular emails out from the inbox. But, pray tell, why would you be setting the option to leave email up on the server for? Emails that stay on your server count against the amount of disk space you have available. -kw
  15. Good news! -kw
  16. as was pointed out, cPanel allows you to forward email to another email account - which will allow you to give out an email of infor@mysite.com and have it be forwarded to jdoe@mysite.com or jdoe@yahoo.com you may also define a default address for any misidentified emails. For example, perhaps you have a jdoe@mysite.com but somebody enters it as johndoe@mysite.com. Good luck! -kw
  17. It's been added to my list. Thanks Larry! -kw
  18. Create a help ticket with your problem, and be sure to enter your userid and password so that someone at TCH Support can take a look. -kw
  19. Agree -- that's where I thought it was located also (/home/tmp) -- but I didn't see it -- even though I had my filters on my FTP program set to show hidden/system files. Guess I'll check again in a bit. -kw
  20. derick - yes, you are correct that Trellix Web was taken over by Globaslcape and renamed CuteSITE Builder (CSB). That's what we were trying to point out to you. As far as Trellix/CSB vs Dreamweaver - the question is: what is your goal? If it's to get a web site up fast - then CSB If it's to learn HTML coding from the ground up - then anything but CSB If it's to develop skills for job situation - then everything including CSB If you don't know - then CSB BTW, look at a couple of my web sites, all of which were built using Trellix Web/CuteSITE Builder: http://www.kwsupport.com/csb http://tch.kwsupport.com http://www.swgalleries.com http://immigrationlaw.org http://popflorida.org -kw
  21. You're welcome! We all miss the obvious or simple solution at times. -kw
  22. Lebleu -- Gator is an isidious (IMO) spyware type of program that loads itself when someone visits a particular web site. I have seen it prevent users from getting to some web sites completely. -kw
  23. Catch-22 situation -- you want to backup your data from your old web site, but they aren't up long enough for you to do it! I had a similar predictament some time ago with a company I had used to register several domain names. I needed to update the DNS entries for some domains that I had recently moved to TCH. But the web site for the registry company was down for almost 24 hours! It taught me a lesson -- to make sure I republish my websites first before changing DNS pointers! -kw
  24. Jimmy, Not sure if this will help, but the Awstats web site had a link that discussed the subject of skipping your own IP address: http://awstats.sourceforge.net/docs/awstat...ml#EXCLUDEHOSTS -kw
  25. If hosting or building web sites, eventually we all have pictures and images we want to publish and make available. Last year I found this free shareware program called Easy Thumbnails. It can work on either a single image or a whole directory full of image files. http://www.fookes.com/ezthumbs/index.html Additionally, one nice feature is that you can 'add' it as a right click feature. Imaginge having a photo on your computer. Right click on it, and select 'make a thumbnail'! -kw
