TCH performs a daily backup of every server, every web site. Go to TCH's Help Web Site, and in the Search box enter the word 'backup'. The first link explains how to create your own backup via CPanel. The 2nd link will take you to a page withinfo about TCH. Scroll down and you will find the times that each server is backed up. This schedule does not reflect our most recent servers that were just brought online recently. -kw

Karma, go to our TCH Help Web Site, and in the Recent Announcements, there is a link for Current Versions of Software -kw

Well, then, please don't cross post -- we will still find your message. I have already responded to you. Having separate topical forums is merely for organization. Everyone sees all the messages that are posted - no matter what topi fo0rum you enter it in. (The only exception is that we have a special Reseller forum that is geared towards Q&A and issues specific to our resellers!) -kw

Avery, Understand that whoever is on the live chat is probably dealing with multiple users simultaneously. The fact that you did receive support should be a "plus", not a negative. Two recent and real situations I encountered elsewhere with other companies other than TCH: 1. I was trying to get a Dynamic DNS name issue resolved. I contacted the company (let's call them ABC) via their help desk, and dropped ain a ticket. I got an automated reply that they received my request. 24 hours later, no response. I go to their help desk and my ticket is not listed. I drop in a 2nd ticket asking what happened to my first ticket? They replied: sorry we can't acces sit. Please submit your question again. So I submitted a 3rd ticket stating my original probelm. I wait for 24 hours. No response. I contact them by email. Sorry, we're having problems - can you resubmit your request again. This went on for an entire week!!!! 2. I wrote to another web provider requesting a change in a web site. I was told I would have a response in 24 hours. I waited 48 hours - no response. I emailed the company. They said send the request again. This time they replied, saying it would take a few days to process... In today's world - we are so used to having everything instantaneously -- and lo and behold a 10 minute wait becomes aggravating and unacceptable. Finally, if it was not an emergency, I would suggest using the TCH Help Desk forum to request support. I try to limit using Live Chat for extreme issues or problems -- meaning I've only used it once this year - period! -kw

Easier File Handling Than Cpanel?
KevinW replied to greatfolios sysop's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
To all: the new TCH Help Web Site not only has links to all your favorite FTP programs to download, but we also have Flash Movie Tutorials showing how to use and implement bith WsFTP and CuteFTP. Check them out ! -kw -
I would say common sense might dictate what's acceptable and not acceptable. So, let me give you two examples, and let's see how the legal eagles respond! Example 1: Let's say I have a primary domain of www.mysite.com. This web site is for my consulting business. Now, let's say I want to set up a small web site for a non-profit company I do work for. So I create a subdomain under my domain, and call it nonprofit.mysite.com. That's not acceptable! Example 2: However, if my web site is a personal one, and I decide to set up certain pages for my wife (wife.mysite.com) and my children (kid1.mysite.com, kid2.mysite.com) for their personal poages - personally, and legally, I don't see an issue with that. Example 2a: However, if my wife's page are going to be used for her new hobby of selling deco art frames, then I would have a problem with it. -kw

TCH granted you access to Jail Shell? I've never heard of it before. Don't know if this is the same thing, but here's one web page I found: http://www.gsyc.inf.uc3m.es/~assman/jail/index.html -kw

Fixed. -kw

I would prefer to keep live chat for special needs. I was part of another web support site that did run a live chat area. The problem is that if the Live chat area was provided by TCH, then there may be some requirement to having a TCH "official person" on hand at all times as well. The man power to do that can get overwhelming. You can still use the TCH user forum to hang out and chat. There's lots of people willing to give their opinion on a wide range of topics - from the latest PHP script to sending in photos of your work space! -kw
-
Yes, several people have installed Squirrel Mail on their TCH web sites. In fact, the TCH Help Web Site has some information on how to install Squirrel Mail. Click here. -kw

If the photos and images are going to be used for sharing photo pages, why not take a look at a product that would interface into your web site, and give you the control over disk space per user, provide user rigistration, and even work in conjunction with a user board on your web site? One such product would be PhotoPost Pro. -kw

Thanks, Beth. For more info on that method, read here. There have also been other methods of "hiding" an email link on a page. Some essentially converting the @ sign. But I would suspect as web spiders get more intelligent, that will be an easy one to break. read here. kw

Registrant Information On Whois.net
KevinW replied to schmuck's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
The weather is absolutely gorgeous here on the west coast of Florida, as we prepare for President Bush to come to town to visit MacDill Air Force Base (the real home of CentCom). -kw -
I agree with Rayners. According to the change log for the most recent version, it was tested using PHP 4.3. So the recommendation not to use it on PHP 4.3 was probably due to the security issues, which were addressed in 4.3.1 (see the security link dated March 8th, 2003 under Recent Announcements at the TCH Help Web Site). kw

Don't apologize -- unless you took the day off to play golf. I was suppose to play golf today, but the oak pollen was too bad (sniff, sniff) -kw -
Perhaps you should step back, and identify the name of the package you are trying to install, and where you obtained it. Then maybe some one can take a look at the requirements. -kw

Registrant Information On Whois.net
KevinW replied to schmuck's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Lianna- I clearly indicated (IMO) that I went straight to the WildWest Domain's web site to do the 'Whois' on schmucks.net But I also just did it using the Whois at ChangeIP and it reports the same thing https://www.changeip.com/whois.asp -
BTW ... when you do, you should find out that you are on Server 20! It also should have been listed in your welcome email from TCH after signing up. -kw
-
to match up your IP address to a server, go to TCH Help Web Site - and in the gray box in the middle of the page you will find a link 'List of TCH servers and IP addresses'! -kw
-
you may also which to check out the two bulletin/user boards supplied by TCH via cPanel -- phpbb and just recently we've added Invision - which is what the TCH user forum is based on. Again, the TCH Help Web site has some information on both. -kw
