  1. In some states (Florida included) even if you are salaried (as I am) there are some cases that would still require the employer to pay overtime or provide extra compensation for work outside the office. Whether your situation falls into that category or not...? And whether you have the right to claim the content of the site is yours when it was made for your employer...? Yes, I would say having a legal opinion on this would be worth while. Good Luck!
  2. Sounds like a question to ask a lawyer. In my case, it wouldn't mean much. I know for a fact there are pages on the site he has never seen. If he had, he would have commented on them And he wouldn't know a meta tag from a q-tip. Without being asked to? Was there a meeting of the minds? Any kind of agreement or understanding? I often work on the site out of the office. It's quieter and I have more fun tools at home than in the office! In fact the majority of hours put into it have been from my home machine. My boss knows this and in exchange I have high-speed internet paid by the company as part of my compensation. It's a little thing, but it makes me very happy!
  3. Mine don't make nice comforting purring sounds.... and they don't require feeding to multiply!
  4. ROFL... this one just tickled my funny bone
  5. Welcome to the Forums! As to building a site for someone else, did you spell out in the contract that the content/graphics etc would be yours or theirs? Were you working as an independent contractor on the website or as part of your job with the company? It might make a difference. A consultation with a lawyer may be your best bet to clarify where you stand. As Tim said, a help desk ticket or PM would be the best way to discuss details. Generally speaking.... no details and no legal opinion offered: Often when you work for a company, the fruits of your labors belongs to them. Ex: folks that work for a company and come up with a new way to market, produce, package a product, or create a new version of the product are often given bonuses for new ideas. But the patent, the rights to that invention, that idea goes to the company as "Work Product". I know that in my own case, my daytime employer pays me to do my job, a portion of it is to create/maintain a website for that company. All images, designs, layout, ideas and text are my own. After the first week with it, the owner of the company told me not to seek approval on any further aspect of the site, to just implement as I see fit. That was years and thousands of pages ago. Should I leave that company, they would own the whole thing even though I was never paid separately for the work.
  6. Can't help on this issue, but still wanted to say: Welcome to the Forums!
  7. That is being chanted and prayed throughout Central Florida. One of my co-workers lives in an area that has brush fires in previous years and is watching the news intently for any news of the current fires moving in her direction! Yards around here are dry and crispy. Almost lost one of my favorite azalea beds (candy-cane miniatures). Slimy hot here and we are no where near the hottest part of the year!
  8. Welcome to the Forums! Glad you found the answer that makes it easier for you to build/maintain your forwards.

  10. Don't have personal results to report. Can only tell you what I have read. Google recommends using the 301 (permanent) redirect, not a 302 Temporary redirect. Read about it here on their help center: http://www.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=9071&topic=363 In many forums, posts are MIXED on the effects of those redirects. Some people report that a few days after setting redirects, the Page Rank and Rankings (position on results) transferred to the new page. However, I can find an equal number of people that say the position fell and had to rebuild. Maybe part of the discrepancy is due to Google changing/updating algorithms. Some folks may not have as many visits from Google as another person, so the results may vary. Another possible cause is that some people are changing page naming (as you are) while others are actually moving to a new domain. You might just try with a page or two and test your OWN results before changing MANY pages.

Back in the day, if I used a radio too close to my Bernoulli box it was unhappy but it never occurred to me to use the radio for testing!
  14. Fingers crossed. Let us know what happens!

    My Lamp

We use high-powered radios at the manufacturing facility and if someone is wearing one on a belt while near my computer, my monitor buzzes and when they talk the screen turns into window blinds. My own radio is stored near my computer when plugged in. Once in a while I will have it turned on but not unplugged and a couple of the smarties like to BUZZ me when they know that I have not moved it yet.
  16. Ah...So it appears that the BACKWEB you have is supposed to be a good version used by your ISP. And your Spybot has removed or damaged it causing your system to hang on loading that program. OK, that makes sense. I read it like this, but since I did not write the instruction, I can't be sure of the intent: Turn off (exit) the Shaw Secure software completely, then if you are using a firewall, set it to allow network traffic. Then turn on the Shaw Secure software again. I would go back to them to verify this step. By the way, in the long run, since SPYBOT does not like BACKWEB, you might try ADAWARE SE (they have a free version) as your adware scanner. When the list pops up finding the components for back web, you can right click it in the list and and choose to ignore each of the components. Then next time you run adaware, it will leace those pieces alone, allowing you to keep your BackWeb!
  17. Hang in, I'm sure some one will let you know their experience....
  18. Welcome to the forum! Sorry, don't know of any site that uses osCommerce and STS Plus. Was going to suggest that you post on the oscommerce forum, expecting that you would get a higher response there, but it looks like you have already tried that back in April. You might want to contact one of the contributors of the STS project. They may have a link set up for samples or to live sites.
  19. That second link is very interesting! That one really does not like the Author of the first article! And based on his quotes, it appears he has reason for it!
  20. Didn't have to call cable company afterall (whew!). But when and if I do in the future, I will definitely heed the advice: "do not confuse them with all the information in advance" You are right! Stick with the script and allow them to check off the box as they get to it. So much for getting to the bottom line. Knock on wood....So far tonight all is loading well on all fronts... My Gmail account has not been able to load for since Monday night....but tonight....no problem! :) (Knowing that the problem was not TCH related, as I mentioned earlier, I should have posted a tracert to the Gmail site. I visit these more often than I do Gmail so they were on my mind when I did the trace.) Thanks for the comments and review! Consider it closed!
  21. If the item on the computer is put in by computer manufacturer as a way to autocheck for updates, etc (Mircon used to do something similar and Dell uses its own type of program to do this) chances are very good that it is not the cause unless it has gotten corrupted in some way. That type program usually kicks in, calls home really quickly and clears out without huge drain on resources. If the item is adware then certainly it can contribute to an environment that could use up available system resources causing system to slow or lockup. And yes, even with a firewall and antivirus you can get adware! Sometimes it loaded into the system with new software (free and paid) as a BONUS with the software you intend to install. It is not always disclosed during the installation process. Adware is SCUMWARE. It can slow connections (while you are trying to load page xyz, it is working in the background on that same internet connection).
  22. Way to Go!
  23. From answersthatwork.com, a tasklist resource that has helped me out MANY times: So, knowing that, have you recently run an Adware/Spyware program to see if you are getting locked up from that source?
  24. Sorry. Entrophychat is what it is. Plain and simple. If you would like a dressier chat interface, there are other options. Try the phpMyChat interface (also in your cpanel) and see if it suits your needs instead.
  25. I have had BOTH routing AND connection problems. 1) Sometimes can't get on at all or if I do, I can't stay on. Last night I could get on just fine. And stayed on for more than on hour with no problem. 2) Sometimes when I can get on, certain sites are giving me fits not loading, bombing out. Two TCH sites were causing me headaches especially. Unfortunately, most of the time from home in the last couple days I am dropping out, getting NO result, timing out somewhere between hop 3 and 30. Most often gets stuck in denver (hop 6 or 7) and bombs out. Those two tracert I FINALLY did load the page so thought I might post it. From at the office I have no problem at all. Always from home, within the last week.... This has all been within the last week. Prior to that time, I did not have an issue. It is not related to any software/hardware changes on my side. I know it is NOT related to TCH as I can get into TCH sites from anywhere BUT home! Will contact cable company tonight when I get home and start the "Please Hold" merry-go-round.
