  1. Ok... so the connection was stable for an hour last night. Then started having stutters.... This morning before coming into work, I had routing problems again. Often timing out. Not just one site. Dragging, and when I could connect this is the result that shows up trying to get to two TCH sites: C:\>tracert lambertusa.com Tracing route to lambertusa.com [72.18.130.164] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1 2 15 ms 7 ms 8 ms 10.111.128.1 3 28 ms 23 ms 17 ms 113.231.95.24.cfl.res.rr.com [24.95.231.113] 4 11 ms 8 ms * p1-0.hsa2.orl1.bbnplanet.net [63.209.120.29] 5 9 ms 8 ms 11 ms ge-5-0-0.mp2.Orlando1.Level3.net [4.68.97.205] 6 63 ms 54 ms * ae-0-0.bbr2.Denver1.Level3.net [64.159.1.114] 7 * 53 ms * so-9-0.hsa1.Denver1.Level3.net [4.68.113.54] 8 63 ms 53 ms 53 ms 4.79.80.14 9 54 ms 56 ms 55 ms core-b.v33.ge-4-5.Level3.edge3.data393.net [208.42.224.117] 10 56 ms * 60 ms rtr-dc-dist-b.v12.colo.data393.net [208.42.224.43] 11 55 ms 55 ms 56 ms ge-0-3-89.denver.wehostwebsites.com [208.42.236.182] 12 55 ms 60 ms 58 ms 72.18.130.164 Trace complete. Suggestions??? Please don't tell me to call cable company.... ... Yes, I have reset the cable modem! LOL
  2. *sam grins and thinks: That suggestion was in my first post!
  3. Good idea. Already have my cpu & monitor on one, a tv/vcr on another in this room. Just have to come up with a way to plug in one more thing without blowing a breaker. So far, no prob...but one of these days...one too many pieces will do it. (45 year old house was not built to handle so much at one time.....) Ah... you know my setup! You are right. I used to do it for no more than 5 minutes but gradually built up to 15-20 because I usually take that opportunity to leave the room to check critters, locks, take out trash, bathroom break, etc. And besides, in my experience, some of these units work better after an extended off time. The one that my boss has will NOT release unless disconnected for at least 15 minutes. Maybe cause it's getting older and crankier and doesn't wake up as easily as it used to.
  4. Generally, you will upload your website files to the public_html folder or a folder that is inside of that one. Lets say your have 4 pages on your site: index.htm, contact.htm, about_us.htm, family.htm All those pages would be uploaded into your public_html folder. Your addresses would look like http://www.******/contact.htm etc. If you have folders INSIDE the public_html folder, they are subdirectories. This is useful for separating your products, photos, topics, archives, etc into useful sections that make more sense. After all, if you had a filing cabinet you would not put all papers into a single drawer without labeled file folders. Same with a website. Using subdirectories is like putting in labeled folders in the drawer. If you have a folder inside the public_html folder called vacation_2005, you would upload your website pages that had pictures of the vacation in 2005. Then to access those pages on your website, you would type in an address like this: http://www.******/vacation_2005/grand_canyon.htm or like this: http://www.******/vacation_2005/disneyland.htm etc. In file manager or an FTP program you will see this: Folder: mail Folder: public_ftp Folder: public_html <--- this one is public. index.htm <--- this one is your website's home page. contact.htm about_us.htm family.htm Folder: vacation_2005 <--- this one is subdirectory of your website. grand_canyon.htm disneyland.htm
  5. If you do decide to host a video or two on your TCH account, make sure you set for no hotlinking from outside your site. If it is a popular video, it will be "hotlinked" (dragged into) someone else's site via a tiny piece of code. This robs you of a limited bandwidth resource without the benefit of the visitor being on your site or you getting credit for the video.
  6. Tim, When I reset my modem, I disconnect all cables from it and leave it set aside for 15-20 minutes before I reconnect it all. Usually resolves modem difficulties. Even taught it to my 70yr+ neighbor that must reach her emails several times a day. I don't know any voodoo magic, but I do say a prayer when I reconnect! Wish I could twitch my nose like another Samantha..... Tonight no problem with connection (now I've jinxed myself) and everything loads fine. Constant cable light (for now), flashing data light. SO relieved that I don't need to call the cable company tonight!!! Opened the photo program (now sans personal settings on toolbar ), and made sure the program no longer has auto update turned on! So next time I lose connection, I can still use the program! Thanks for the suggestions and moral support.
  7. Welcome to the forum.
  8. First let me say thank you to you folks for the moral support! Being able to blow off steam a bit is great in itself. Had to wait till I got to work to do it. Bill: Arby's is now serving Mountain Dew AND Dr. Pepper!! Clarification: When I said (ISP says they have been working in the area, but doubt that would be causing my problem) I was trying to say that THEY SAID they doubt it would be causing my problem. My first thought last night when I could not get on was that the network is not stable tonight since my pc has been running like a dream. Then I tried to work with images and my world started to crumble. Kevan: YES, I did power off my modem! LOL Thank you for asking. When I get home tonight, I will look to see if I already have an icon or not and if not add one. Sounds like a good idea. You are RIGHT on the mark about the photo program . Now that you mention it, the older ones load without phoning home but this latest version has to check for updates! That did not even dawn on me!!! All my personal settings gone for no reason.( ) *sound of sobbing can be heard now I did think of tracert but did not run one because I got distracted by the photo program problem. Should have stayed on the connection issue instead of trying to WORK. grumble mumble grumble..... As to the modem lights, I often have a flashing cable or flashing data light. Not used to no data light! 2 - 3 times a week I come home and find that power has been out for short periods of time. All clocks in house display different times and the VCR used to have a clock that reset automatically and even it gave up on that function! LOL. I keep my computer and two tvs on UPS now so my basic settings are not lost... The ISP is not the same company that has the CABLE. So now I will need to go back to Cable company to resolve connection issue.... TIM....I dread calling because I know you are RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Welcome to the forum!
  10. Last night I spent HOURS trying to resolve 2 issues on my computer. 1) Photo program HANGS when opening, getting stuck, causing 100% cpu usage. After several uninstall/reinstall, photo program is resolved. All individual settings gone, but that is working again....Don't have any reason why there would have been a corruption in the exe execution but every now and then wacky stuff happens. 2) Intermittent connection to the web using my cable modem (ISP says they have been working in the area, but doubt that would be causing my problem) Chat with them is like reading a SCRIPT. They obviously do not read before responding: ME: I've rebooted pc and full reset of modem unplugged for 20 minutes after checking all cables for good connection. I've cleared my cache, cookies, run antivirus and antispyware program, no problems found and my Cable modem lights: PC steady, Cable flashing, data not lit. Is my cable modem the most likely culprit? THEM: Have you cleared your temporary internet files? THEM: Would recommend that you reset your modem, keeping it unplugged for at least 15 minutes. Why bother to type anything in if all the person on the other end will say is line by line what is on script without reading what has already been stated by the customer. And note that the chat did not have a lag time. Vernon's responses were input AFTER I would send my information. He received it but did not read it. Still do not have a resolution to this headache, but will attack it again tonight when I get home. Just wanted to say a word of KUDOS to the TCH staff and support that I have NEVER had that kind of responses from them. I have never come away from a PM or chat session with TCH folks and been as frustrated as I am with my ISP right this minute. Makes me really appreciate the support we get here!!!
  11. Actually that program or others like it would make a nice Mother's day gift!
  12. There are programs you can use to sort and keep track of your photo collection using tag words, etc. One such program is Photo Album by Corel (formerly by Jasc). http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel3/Products/Display&pfid=1047024307383&pid=1047025470321 You identify the photos, and burn the cd's or dvd's through that program. It keeps track of where the photos are. For example, lets say you want to look up Christmas photos of Crazy Uncle Dave. As you load them into the program you define words for the images like Christmas, Uncle Dave, 2005, or 2004, Texas, etc. Burn your cds. You can later do a search in the program for all entries with "Christmas" and "Dave" in it. It will tell you cd 2, cd9 and cd 12! Sweet concept. Does take time to load them in but is worth it if you will need to research or keep from duplicating files! I have not used it, but GOOGLE also offers Picasa2 for organizing photos. http://picasa.google.com/
  13. The problem with this (that I can see) is that the switch must take place through the ticket system. Even now, cpanel users have no access to change the skin and it requires help desk intervention to do it. Ex: in the recent server migrations, accounts with special settings (dedicated ips, etc) had to be reset differently than the ordinary accounts. TCH was a master at moving our account without any problems! Then when everything was done, people like me (sorry folks for being a pain ) requested that the old skin be applied to the account, adding to the work and number of tickets.
  14. Word for word...I hear my father's voice.....
  15. Don't use as many features as some do, but would still like to toss in my personal site as a testing ground. That's how the site got started in the first place...
  16. As a Blue Lagoon user, I have to say I will miss it and hope that we end up with something closer to it than x in the long run. But as a TCH customer, I prefer keeping the tickets and problems at a minimum as that helps to keep the costs down, and provide us all with best service possible. With all that Bill (Head Guru) has put on the table lately this is a small thing he is asking of us. Bring on the default template!!!
  17. Kind words are always terrific to hear. I agree with Tim. Please stick around the forums and chime in!
  18. Mrs. Muddled, That long thread for Major Annoucement did talk about Ruby on Rails coming soon. But even if you never take advantage of that, the other part of that thread gave us all more bandwidth and more storage space today that's why you couldn't get into cpanel for a while.
  19. Looks same in FF and IE to me.
  20. What kind of mouse are you using...Optical mouse? Mouse with a ball? Wired/wireless? Mousepad on laptop/keyboard? The bell ding ding may or may not be related to the mouse. I had a similar problem a while back that my screen would sometimes freeze or act up (strange characters appear) sometimes ding was heard from system. Made it impossible to use mouse. Turned out that I had a staple caught in my KEYBOARD. It was sending info to the system and I was not touching anything. Cleaning the keyboard resolved it. This comes from Technobuddy's Q&A column: http://www.statesman.com/money/content/shared/money/stories/technobuddy/qanda/06/qa060115.html
  21. Want to try out the interface of several shopping carts before you install one on your own space? http://www.opensourcecms.com/ On the left border, there are several options under e-commerce. When you click one of the choices, you get a rating page and are told a user name and password. This DEMO will allow you to make all sorts of changes and test the program in a safe environment. Consider Zen Cart. It is free, but has alot of flexibility for setting prices, etc. A version of it can be installed through Fantastico (in your cpanel interface). There is an extensive forum for Zen Cart here. http://www.zen-cart.com/modules/frontpage/ There's a thread that compares several shopping carts here: http://www.zen-cart.com/modules/ipb/index.php?showtopic=27653 You can use it to build a catalog with no purchasing online too. If that's your preference, consider using pay pal shopping instead. Allows you to assign individual products a button. You load the button html code into your page and that links to a paypal shopping cart. This solutions allows you to use your own pages, but would not give you as many price options.

Welcome to the forums Kaybee! Re: Don's post: Tim, what happens when the power goes out with no land line? In my area, I rarely can get cell inside the house and though my cable connection is steady, it has gone out more often than my land line... During the storms the last couple years, that landline was a god-send.
  23. Way to go Tom! And thanks Michelle for taking the time to report such a nice review!
  24. Looks like he switched gallery programs, at least for the one he specifically mentioned.
  25. Neat hideout! But obviously not built in Florida or near a coast that deep down or it would be underwater...unless that is part of the security arrangement?
