  1. If you want to actually have more than one site...you have to upgrade to a reseller account. If you just want to build a portfolio for yourself, I would start out maybe doing a sub-domain on your account where you show your work. You can not, however, have actual different sites/domains as a sub-domain. All the content has to be related to your main site. Does that make sense? Sometimes I just can't get the words out!!
  2. I think it's been fixed! Thumbs Up
  3. As far as I know, that shouldn't be a problem. Are you installing IPB from Cpanel?
  4. Hi, Nesdon. First of all, welcome to the family!! It's a very friendly bunch here...the best BB I've found yet! You can post whatever kinds of questions you have on this Board. If it is a question that requires help desk support or something like that, someone will let you know!! I briefly visited your site. A couple of things that struck me: 1. Love that homepage image!!! 2. You should include text links somewhere on your page as well as your graphical ones. Not everyone has the capability to use images...and not everyone has the smarts to figure out what they are looking at!! 3. I think your site would benefit from a little bit more of a purpose statement of some sort. If I have to actually read a whole lot of text to figure out the purpose of a site, I'm probably not going to do it. Something to catch your use's attention and make them want to look further! The image kind of does it for me...but it won't for lots of people. Just a couple of my own opinions! Again...welcome to TCH! Rock Sign
  5. Maybe it would involve changing the board url???...
  6. I'm wondering if it's possible to do the following on IPB: After a user register's, instead of being directed to the forum index...have them directed to the calendar page??? And would it be then be possible to specify this as the default page upon login for a specific group of users?

As much as I hate water, Mike...I have to agree. Even though I don't want to...

    Mozilla

yeah...the Mozilla site said nothing but: it's unfortunate that you've lost all your bookmarks. However, if you do not have a backup, there is nothing you can do!!!
  9. .htaccess is in your root folder...public_html. It probably won't show on your ftp program. Use your file manager in cpanel, or tell your ftp program to show hidden files. Don't know about an asp equivalent...php maybe???

Thanks for the well wishes Thomas and HG!!

I wouldn't doubt it. I think the storms lost intensity the further they went. They weren't as bad here in Arlington as they were up in Saginaw and N. Richland Hills. It was pretty scary when I was standing at the door peeking out and I kept feeling waves of hot and cool air. Told me just how unstable that system was!!! Glad to hear you weren't hit bad up there! HMMM...I almost had a job in Addison. Didn't work out. I have friends that work at the Fitz and Floyd outlet off Beltline, though. I'll probably be up there working their next big sale!! Small world!!

    Mozilla

Well, it's confirmed...Bookmarks have been lost. I guess if that's the only thing I lost last night in that storm, I'll consider myself lucky!! To fix the email, all I had to do was re-build all the accounts in Mozilla, then point them to the previous folders that have all my email!! I think I'll be spending part of my day doing PC backup!!! Thanks for the help, guys!

    Mozilla

Cute avatar, Thomas. I did do a re-install of Mozilla, but that didn't help. I got the email problem fixed...but I can't get the bookmarks thing fixed. I will do another re-boot to see if that helps. Otherwise, since I don't have a bookmarks back-up, they're probably lost!!! The history is still there...I'll be able to salvage some of them. Learning the hard way, huh???

    Mozilla

With the storms in my area last night...my computer did not get shut down properly. I think my surge protector may have helped protect it, but something weird did happen. Poor little puter had a hard time starting up this morning. Once it did start up, I went into Mozilla to check email...but all email account settings were gone. Now...the default directory where these accounts were created still shows them. So, I know I didn't lose the email, I just need to make Mozilla SEE this email. Which I think I can do. However, all my Mozilla Bookmarks have disappeared as well. I'm wondering if there is a default folder, like for the email, where all the bookmark info is stored. I looked in Mozilla help...no luck. I will check Mozilla's site, but if anyone here has any suggestions, that would be great!! Thanks!

    Whew...

Last night we had a doozy (I don't think I've ever actually written that word out...) of a storm here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Texas metroplex. Tornado sirens went off right outside my door and one was spotted maybe 10 miles from us in one direction, and probably 25-30 miles from us in the other direction. Nervous night altogether, but I don't think anyone was seriously hurt! Lost power for a few hours, but we were pretty lucky to have it come back on in the wee hours of the morning. Anyway...thought I'd share a photo that I DID NOT TAKE!!! It is from the WFAA.com website. The Dallas skyline last night, probably right before the storm or right after...definately not during!!!
  16. Thomas...I just uploaded a document to goBCL and it was converted within about 1 minute. Got the email about a minute after that. Maybe you could try re-submitting, and read the comments on their site in the right hand column regarding what to do if you haven't received your document. Of course...your document may be larger than mine, and maybe that has something to do with it. Sorry it didn't work out as well for you!
  17. MWave seems to be a pretty good store. I don't know anything about your specific connection, but I have about the same amount of cable crossing my living room! I know I need to get router and wireless card for my pc...just can't afford it right now!!!! MWave offers pretty good prices once you find out what you need!!
  18. Hope it works for you. I think my first 2 submissions to them took less than a few hours. Then all of a sudden one day it took quite some time! I figure most of the time you get the file back pretty fast. Glad I could be of some help!
  19. This would probably require completely changing your approach...but I think it is a viable option. goBCL.com provides free conversions to pdf. I've used them about 3 times and have been happy with the results. Maybe you could maintain your document in a different file format (html or doc) and then convert it for publishing. I guess if this is something you intend to update A LOT...this method would take considerably more time. But...it's an idea!
  20. ...I'm a little scared now. Last night I dreamed the web consortium was conspiring to control all web development code by sending warnings to your computer if you wrote bad code! AS YOU WROTE IT!!!!! They had their own little room is some mafia house, and I'm sure Microsoft was in on the conspiracy as well. Then I dreamed I was writing code and couldn't get my <em> and <strong> tags in the right place!!! In light of this - Rob, I think you need to say this with me - My name is Tracy...and I must be an addict... woooot
  21. Had another idea concerning the links to your classes. Instead of showing the prominent link from the course pages back to your homepage...maybe seperating those links on your homepage would work. That way, someone browsing your site who is not a student wouldn't accidentally get lost. Maybe group them beneath the other site links under a title like "Course links" or "Student Links"...maybe something like that. I guess ultimately it depends on what the goal is with your main site. Also...with that other comment on the browser side of things, you are absolutely right that most people use 800x600. I personally can't stand it, so I never use it. Everything is just too big! I do understand your point though! If you're really not worried about it....it certainly doesn't hurt anything. Here is another link that I found interesting to check more than just the speed of your site: summitTOOLS. You don't have to enter a company name, but be sure to check both of the little boxes beneath the url box!
  22. You've got a nice layout...great colors, as was mentioned by Lisa. Two things that were odd for me: 1. Your main pages that use the wavy banner...when those pages are viewed with a monitor resolution of 1024x768, they loose alignment because your content area expands and collapses with the browser size while the top graphic stays the same size. I would be tempted to change the table to a fixed size...just my opinion, though! 2. When I clicked onto the german links, I didn't see an easy way to navigate back to the main site. Maybe an obvious link on those pages back to your home page, or you could also have those links open up in new browser windows since they are so different from the rest of your site. Just my 2 cents! Overall it looks good. Here's a small screenshot of the way the site looked on my monitor at 1024x768.
  23. Thomas...I believe with the Standard and Deluxe reseller package, you may have your own custom nameservers.
  24. I don't notice any problems in Mozilla.
