I agree, start over. Boot to the CD and find fdisk and run it and wipe out all partitions and leave an empty Hard Drive. Then reboot and let XP create the C: partition, format it and install the OS. If this doesn't work correctly then start over again but this time YOU manually create the C: partition and format it and install the OS. Good luck.

Have you rebooted since deleting the other drives? Try and reboot and see what you end up with. Is this on a network?

HYmmm, sounds rather odd to me...I thought C: could never be assigned as a removable drive. If this is a new system as you say I would wipe clean and start over. Did you fdisk and create your partitions before you started? Is this pre-installed system or one you built from scratch?

Ok, to use the Fax in XP you need a modem connected to a phone line, a document to fax and a fax number to receive it I'll use MS Word as an example. Open the document in word and click on File and Print. Now in the Printer name box click the down arrow for the list of available printers and select FAX and click OK. The Send Fax wizard starts and you are on your way. Fill in the information requested, I don't think its manditory but its informative for the folks receiving the fax. Once the wizard is completed the phone should dial and send your fax. Hope this helps.

WinFax used to be a company on its own until Symantec gobbled them up. They had a Lite Version which was free and it came packaged with most modems on a 3 1/2" floppy (still has a few stashed away). This version was limited of course but was perfect for faxing a simple document to a single number. If you wanted the bells and whistles you needed to purchase the profesional version. This was best in its class. Now I believe Windows XP and ME comes with built in fax support and a stand alone program is not needed. But I have a combo scan/print/fax printer and have not tried them.

I don't believe the numbers will always determine the server location, at some point they at different locations and that could be at server 76 Now slowdowns could be several different reasons and the best way to find out why is to submit a help desk ticket and let them investigate. There could be a routing issue somewhere on the internet between you and the server. There could be a datacenter routing problem specific to the one server. There could be someone on your server with a runaway script which is locking up just your server. A Tracert could tell you if there is a delay somewhere between you and the server.

Yes, this "super secret firewall thing" is called NAT (Network Address Translation) and is built into most routers now and acts like a firewall. You are basically on a separate local network and assigned and IP by the router and all computers behind the router are protected from the rest of the internet. To run a tracert use an outside service with your browser, there are lots out there. h_tp://www.samspade.org/t/ or ht_p://www.tracert.com are the ones I usually use.

What exactly do you mean by "having my site up any running"? Having a site up and running to me means you have written some html pages and have uploaded the files to your web site and everyone can view them on the internet from their web browsers. To accomplish this you need to have purchased a domain from a registrar. You then purchase a hosting package and tell them the domain and either they or you point the domain to the proper DNS server. After you receive an email from the hosting company and your domain is "propogated" and you have written your html code for your web pages and uploaded them to your site...THEN you are up and running. Did you do all of these things and did you do them with TCH would be my questions.

Just wanted to piggyback a question. Is this server going to have the time changed? Being on the eastcoast I am used to looking at the time on the posts and having them match the time on my PC. As I look at other posts today I see I am typing an hour in the future and I am not used to that BoB at 11:27AM

Ok, lets see if I can explain what Thomas has mentioned. ISP's in an attempt to cut back on spam have been "closing" port 25 from being used as a "relay" for email. That means it checks the email and if it does not originate from the ISP it will not work. We'll use me as an example. I basically use 2 ISP's, I have had Prodigy since 1989 and have had my same email there since then and would like to keep it. Prodigy is now SBC/Yahoo and is a dialup service (slow) and I decided to get a faster service and since SBC could not supply me with faster service I oppted for a Cable connection which I am connected to all the time. Now I had to setup my email to receive from pop.prodigy.net and then send from smtp.cablecompany.net. The sending part is where I am affected, I cannot send from Prodigy because my internet connection says something other than Prodigy and they have port 25 blocked. How this affects you depends on your ISP and if you are doing what a few of us are doing by using multiple ISP's and crosing our email.

Thomas, I don't use Nortons since its trashed more computers than I feel is acceptable but I will give a guess here. Nortons is a collection of software packages that help protect your computer several ways and one of those is in scanning email. I would guess that it has an option somewhere that says to scan email and Outlook is selected as your email program of choice (default maybe). For whatever reason it is not finding Outlook so it is giving you this error. Open the security consol or whatever Norton uses and find this option for Outlook an replace with your email program or just turn it off.

Ben, there is nothing you can do except delete the emails and forget about it. These emails are coming from another infected computer that has your address and determining which one it is is next to impossible.

Yes you can run AIM without logging into AOL...ONLY if you have some other way to connect to the internet. Everyone in my family using AIM and we are not AOL members anymore, we have a cable connection. As for your restore problem I don't have enough information, but if the system restore has not been turned on there will be nothing to restore. The easy way to fix the AOL software is to find an AOL CD and just reinstall. [thinks this may be a flyby]

Thanks for jumping in mike. I was already at the pobox site rereading to see if I could make heads or tails of what the problem could be, its been a little while since I read about it. Well I guess thats debatable , Etanisla says its legitmate mail and "should" be able to receive it. If the mail would be sent here they would probably receive it. So if its not a problem here, where is the problem?
