  1. An FYI about Hijackthis. It is an "investigation" tool and it creates a list that you are supposed to look at to determine if you have spyware, trojans, hijackers and so on. The list or report produced is usually technical in nature and needs knowlegable people to read and interpret what is in it. If you don't know how to read the report or someone is not going to read it for you the program will not help you.
  2. Alan, what you probably have is a Browser Hijacker. Do you have the newer version of Ad-Aware...Ad-Aware SE? h_tp://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html go there and download and install. Also check for updates before scanning. do you have the current Spybot? Version 1.3? get that here h_tp://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html also check for updates first before scanning See if these get rid of your problem
  3. Thomas, see if this helps explain it a little better. h_tp://www.thescreamonline.com/technology/monitor/monitor_res.html
  4. Thomas, the monitor size makes a big difference and using the same font and fontsize does not mean it will look the same on different size monitors. If you are designing your web pages for the best look with that 21" monitor you are not designing for the majority of viewers out there. Its hard to explain but the best way is just to show you, and we don't have to since you have already seen for yourself . Your pages look great on that big old monitor of yours and look "yucky" on a 17". Make them look good on a 17" and you will probably be better off. I'm not sure of the percentages but I would guess that 17" is more of the standard now.

  6. In other words, no.
  7. are the browser windows the same size? maximize both to full screen and see if that helps.
  8. Auder, at the top of this page is a link to the "Forum Guidelines"
  9. At work its Win2000 and UNIX. At home...lets see... 3 desktops with XP and one with ME currently running on the network. In the back room I have several desktop and laptops in various states but can and do get plugged in and used if the need arrises. They have Win NT, Win 98, Win95, Win 3.1, and Win 3.0 and finally a true DOS 5.0 on an XT (if you remember those). I've got files and boxes filled with all versions of Windows, IBM and MS DOS, and a couple packages of OS2.
  10. Thanks Mike. A big reason for folks to update to SP2. But as usual they will not and the first couple of virus's produced for this bug will have big impact.
  11. If you do not have a lot of time...stick with what you have
  12. Looks like I was a tad late... You can also try to set compatibility the manual way. Right-click on the icon (I assume you have one on the desktop) and click on Properties. Now click the COMPATIBILITY tab and then click the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select the operating system from the window underneath.
  13. Click on START | ALL PROGRAMS and look in the ACCESSORIES folder, find and run the PROGRAM COMPATIBILITY WIZARD and see if this will help you get the old program running.
  14. Thomas, somehow you have created a shortcut to your hard drive on your desktop. Right-click on the icon and select properties and see what you can find in there. The location under the General tab will probably say C:\ (if your boot drive is C:). Its probably a quick way to open up Windows Explorer at your system root (C:\)
  15. If you registered your domain with TCH at the same time you opened your account you can check the date in the whois database. h_tp://www.whois.sc click the DOMAIN EXPLORER tab and enter your domain name and click on search toward the bottom will be a created date
  16. In some cases maybe but I don't believe it would be a large number. For those folks who are on a router that uses natting, they are safe for instance. A good spot to learn about this is at grc.com and you can start reading here: h_tp://www.grc.com/su-explain.htm
  17. This is not new...file and print sharing has always been a security issue! Turn it on at your own risk. Now you can print anything you want on my printers, but I will charge a huge price if you want to collect the documents

  19. Well for someone here to help you, you need to supply us a little more information. There is not enough here for us to know where to begin or what exactly you want to do or are trying to do. Do you have your web Page started and want to put a link to download this wmv? Play it? Do you just want to know how to "upload" your file? Give us a little more information and someone will gladly try and help.
  20. In Device Manager delete the bad Radeon 9550. Is there also a line for your old video card? if there is delete that also.
  21. ::totally lost as to what this would accomplish:: redirecting only to be redirected again...why not redirect to the correct spot to begin with?
  22. At my old job we used PC Anywhere and LapLink. Not sure if LapLink is still in business. My current job uses PC Anywhere or Terminal Service.
  23. Free hosting for EVERYONE! Can't get any bigger than that
  24. Yes a dedicated server would be nice but I believe it will be way out their price range. I'll bet this is just a teacher who decided to go out on their own and purchased an account out of their own money and is trying to give the kids a little more than what the school had to offer. They probably can't afford to purchase a dedicated server account and I know the school will not have the funds for it.
  25. I guess the only advantage for a sub-domain is fewer keystrokes for the URL. http://subdomain.domain.com = 26 http://www.domain.com/subdomain = 30
