Change Subdomain Folder Location
Madmanmcp replied to Mixerguy's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
What are you letting everyone use, cpanel or ftp? If you create everyone a separate ftp account and only grant them permission to their specific folder (subdomain and not to root) this might accomplish what you want. -
6 minutes is fine. The problem is probably on the other end. athens.imagineeasy.com is coming from Frankfort Germany.

ACDSee is up to version 7. Maybe an upgrade is in order.
-
This tells me its a problem with ACDSee and not OE since you told OE to use ACDSee as your viewer for pictures. The DDE error is telling you you a have a problem passing data from one program to the other but not which side is having the problem. Change the viewer in OE from ACDSee to another and see if the error continues, if it doesn't this will point more to ACDSee as the problem. It can't read that file for whatever reason.

The cable modem needs to be connected to the router (use the WAN port) unless you are using ICS to share the internet. And ICS will need to be installed on the 98SE machine from a disk created from the XP machine. But its best to run from the router and leave ICS alone. As for each PC seeing the other read that site I gave you to help get the network up correctly.

It might be as you say, just a seating problem. You moving around may have fixed it but may also be a temporary and become unseated again once you move. Now I don't know your experience with hardware but cracking open a laptop is totally different than working on a desktop and I don't recommend it for the faint of heart. But if you're game I would suggest at least reseating the cables. You can then be sure that it will not jar loose again.

A Laptop top cooler...I'll have to look for that since this is a college student and she can't afford to buy another laptop. Unless you have a link handy?

Sorry, had to add some humor. I just worked on a Dell laptop for a friend and did not enjoy the outcome. Seems like that model 5160 had a lot of issues. If you search the internet you will find lots of complaints about it. In my instance it turned out to be an overheating problem that Dell refused to acknowlege and the only suggestions were to blow out the fan area with a can of air or keep it off a flat surface because the fan is located on the bottom. I had to teel the girl those were her two options and it would probably still run hot and lock up or buy a new laptop...her warranty had run out 1 month ago. Now I'm not sure if this overheating is whats causing your problem but it may be worth looking at.

Slipping an existing hard drive into a new computer (or replacing the m/b as in this case) is a crapshoot. If it works it works. The hard drive contains specific information about each component of a computer and in some cases will not be compatable with other components. Sometimes you are given the option of loading new drivers which will will allow you to work in the new environment. Sounds like in this case you can't. If you have access to other computers you can slide the hard drive into several until you find one that will work.

Emails are limited to 300 every 5 minutes. You need to stagger them so it does not hit this limit. Maybe this is your problem.

IRC is actually a program/service that will need to be installed, so if you do not have a dedicated server it may not be possible here at TCH. What is listed in the AUP is about scripts that are run on IRC and not about running an IRC server itself. We had a discussion awhile ago about this but not sure if we listed any sites to download from. But Here is the one thats used at Prodigy. h_tp://www.shadow-realm.org/

The date on the sending computer was set wrong, it had the date of the 18th. Outlook and Outlook Express places the system date and time on the inside of emails. The header information will be the date and time from the email server and is usually correct.

Change Subdomain Folder Location
Madmanmcp replied to Mixerguy's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Hi mixerguy, I seem to be not understanding what your objective is here. For me a subdomain for each family sounds like the best way to organize your family websites and consolidating them into one would be more confusing. With a subdomain for each you can easily add or delete when needed and not affect any of the others because they reside in separate "folders". If they are all under one folder you run the risk of adding a file with the same name and wiping out something you shouldn't or deleting something by mistake because you forgot the filenames for a family member. As far as being cumbersome, not sure what you mean. When you create a subdomain for john and for bill, it creates a separate folder for each under public_html and you access them with the URL john.domain.com and bill.domain.com. You place the files for bill under public_html/bill and the files for john under public_html/john, if there are images you create a folder under both john and bill and reach them with a link to each, public_html/bill/images. Now to help organize the whole site you can use the main domain as the entryway to the whole family. You main page is just a big list of links to all the families subdomains. A link for "john" takes you to http://john.domain.com, the link for bill takes you to http://bill.domain.com. Now you just tell the family to remember there individual subdomain or the entryway http://www.domain.com and click on thier name in the list. -
but what are you going to do now when YOU get hot?

Not sure about CSS but would like to comment on the issue. Personally I turn off html and I recommend that everyone turn off html in their email clients and I know that I am not alone. Their are too many security risks. I also know that most spam programs being used will block emails or block html content. So you are probably starting off on the wrong path if you are going to use html for your emails. Just my opinion.

Ok, that looks good. The USB are showing up as drives which is ok. The Drive order after the C: really doesn't matter. The CD and DVD drives can be any letters and the removable drives also. I think you're good to go now.
