  1. You can lead a horse to water, but.... I find this very disturbing (not withstanding Lisa being an awesome mod).
  2. I'm flattered, Thomas, really. But in all honesty, stalking is a huge and prevalent problem and deserves serious consideration here. The posts in this thread set off warning bells for me. And if there's one thing I've learned (the hard way) it is that you have to pay attention to warning bells!
  3. Lisa, This Site has good information for stalking victims... just in case! Kind of kidding, it's probably harmless, but you never know... every family has its black sheep... better safe than sorry... Be careful, VI PS: Just wondering if there was any discussion of these types of issues before you all posted your photos? It's kind of scary out there...
  4. see if anything in this thread helps... otherwise, wait for someone more knowledgable than I to come along. I'm sure someone will momentarily. VI
  5. godblessyou
  6. or maybe just do an image search for what you're looking for... Once you find an image you like, you can always ask for permission to use it. I get requests like that on occasion. Many photogrpahers will be happy to let you use their images in return for a credit, and perhaps a link. The exposure is good for them and it's something to put on a resume...
  7. Yeah... we're overdue for a chat. Let's catch up on PM. BTW... designby, who started this thread, is a New Yawker like us. Hence the appreciation of my somewhat questionable sense of humor. Have you considered Miracle Gro? Just kidding, don't shoot!
  8. I think I've been talking to Rob too much!
  9. Just fyi: if you post a reply to any topic you are automatically subscribed to that topic (but not to the forum as a whole) and will again receive email notifications. It's not that unsubscribing doesn't work, it's just that posting automatically re-subscribes you. I tried using my cd rom drive as a coffee cup holder but the hole was too wide, the cup fell, I burned my hand trying to catch it, the coffee spilled, my work got ruined, I lost my job, my husband had a fit, I got divorced, couldn't pay my bills, and now I'm homeless. I guess I should have called you...
  10. Happy Anniversary!!!!! And many more. And while we're at it, let's have many more of those sunsets too! Great shot! Randy
  11. Excellent suggestions, Thomas! I use the Alt Tags now for the image titles... but an oral "tour" would be a fantastic tool! I think sighted people would like it too because it could include description, comments, history, and stories by the artist which always add to the experience. I guess next I'll be on here asking TCH members for help with implementing something like this. Kung Fu was an old TV show that was on in the 60's. It was set in the Old Wild West and featured a Chinese character who wandered the west and used his Kung Fu skills and philosophy to right the world's wrongs. The role was written for Bruce Lee, but the powers that be decided that American audiences weren't ready for a Chinese leading man, so they got David Carradine to do it and tried (unsucessfully) to make him look Chinese.
  12. Do you remember the TV show Kung Fu with David Carradine (no age comments, please!)? His "master" was blind. Made for good TV, but also opened the imagination to the possibilities. I used to train in darkness sometimes. After a while, kata became relatively easy... kumite was always challenging (I always tried to get a sparring partner in a white gi, but in my schools brown belts and above wore black gis so I usually had to fight a black gi) . I never used weapons in the dark, but some people did. Not as well as David Carradine's master, but it was apparent that with practice the other senses could be heightened and it could be done. As for an artist's site, I don't know about accessible, but I've tried to make mine at least interesting for the visually impaired. I've noticed many blind or nearly blind people in art museums. They enjoy the textural experience of sculpture, of course. But I've also noticed that many have 'helpers' with them who describe the two dimensional works and, if knowledgeable, tell little stories about the artist or how the piece was created, etc. At the least, the helpers read them the info on the little signs hanging on the wall. If they were to visit my site, they would still need a helper to describe the images and read to them, but I've supplied captions in my slideshows that would enhance their experience (and do the same for sighted people, I hope). I've also offerred additional content on the site like quotes about the creative process, and a statement of how I do what I do that add to the experience of the art for all who have an appreciation, sighted or not. Art is an experience of someone else's creativity... it can be experienced with the eyes, but it can be experienced in other ways too. Sometimes our eyes limit the experience by placing too much emphasis on the subject or the composition and thus 'blinding' us (forgive the pun) to the artist's expression of feeling and display of skill and technique. I don't know how to make my site accessible for a blind person, but I certainly hope that if one visits, he or she will feel welcome and have the best experience I can give them.
  13. What do you have for your outgoing mail in the "server information" section of the Accounts set-up? Here's how I set mine up: Incoming Mail (POP3): mail.**** Outgoing Mail (SMTP): smtp.west.cox.net I believe you can also set your outgoing mail to: smtp.******, but if I remember correctly I had problems with that when I first set mine up. By using my ISP (cox.net) as my outgoing mail SMTP, I can still send emails if my domain is down for a while (of course that never happens with TCH!). In any case, make sure your outgoing mail is set to smtp dot something as opposed to mail dot something. Hope this helps...
  14. http://www.bklynraven.net/ and http://www.raevin.us/ both work fine for me. Lots ofpeoplehave been having difficulties with some people being able to see their images and others not. I think it is a hotlink problem. Disable your hotlink protection for a day and see if that helps.
  15. I have a question for you Gmail users: Does the large capacity mean that you can send and receive large attachments (like large images for example)? I ask because I've had problems sending and receiving even 1.5 meg files... the TCH server times out, I think. Am I to understand that using Gmail I can send these large files and other Gmail users can receive them?
  16. Just guessing, but it makes sense that it would have to be one that is sold nationally rather than just on a local level (no matter how big that locality is). Personally, I read the New York Times, but I'd guess that USA Today is read by more people as it is easier to read and written for more of a mass market. But most people probably read their local newspaper. I think the New York Post may have the largest daily circulation for local newspapers, but I'm not sure. But because it's only read and sold locally, it isn't the "most read newspaper." Ask Jeeves! VI
  17. Oh no! My daughter went down to Florida (Ft. Lauderdale area) this week to escape NY during the convention. Out of the frying pan and into the fire! Love those Keys though... I was there on vacation in June... didn't want to leave. Be safe everyone... VI
  18. Yep, that's the one. Seems like the same problem for both of them... it's contagious!!
  19. I thought I posted a reply last night... wonder where it went Maybe it was same problem, different thread. Anyway... I had this problem once and although I never understood what caused it, it was cured by disabling hotlinking for a day or so. Here's a link to that thread.
  20. When that happened to me, I had to turn off my hotlink protection for a while. Never did understand why, but it worked. Here's The Thread about it. Hope this helps.... VI
  21. HG... version 2... same rules.
  22. I like yours better.... didn't realize you could change the colors of the clothing... so that's what 'ware color" means. I think some combination of the two would do it... I raised the hairstyle by 2 dots for the higher forehead... you got the better eyes and brows... nose is debatable, hard to tell fro his pic. We're almost there... wonder what Bill thinks. Other than that we've all got too much time on our hands! LOL HeyBellringr.... from what you've told me about yourself, yours is perfect!!! Paris and food. I'm right there with you! VI
  23. Here's my HG attempt using only the choices on the site... no paint shop, photoshop, or anything else.
  24. I knew that.... Yeah, me too. I just didn't want Rob to have to pay up so I kept my mouth shut.
  25. "I wore a bomb, a nuclear bomb in a field of flowers" - John Crichton, FarScape Rob, is this the 'translation' of your code in your previous signature? Did anyone crack it?
