  1. Thanks Ellen... that fix is way beyond my abilities and comfort level! The problem only occurs with jpegs that are emailed to me, but not all the time. I found a work around... if I save the file, I can preview it with the windows picture viewer. Then I can right click on it and open it with the microsoft photo editor (but not with ACDSee). If I make a slight change (like to it's size) and save it again with another name, I can access it. Sort of. What is / dde anyway?????
  2. This just started happening recently... don't know if it's because of an update or an SP2 issue or what.... When someone emails me a jpeg and I try to open it (I have my computer set to open these files in ACDSee), sometimes I get an error : " ! Cannot Open : / dde " I even save the file and then try to open it from the folder in which I saved it but the same thing happens. I have not been able to figure out why I sometimes get the error and sometimes I don't. I'm pretty sure that I always get it if the email containing the jpeg is a forward. But sometimes it's not clear if it's a forward or an original email to me, but I can't open the jpeg. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Maybe a simple setting I can change somewhere???
  3. Sounds strange... especially if she is receiving the emails that are being bounced. Have you opened a ticket? Click on the Help Desk link at the top of this page... I'm sure you'll get the answer there. VI
  4. Just a note: it wasn't working for me. I had to right click and change the macromedia flash settings to allow lookandfeel.com access to my machine's camera and microphone.
  5. I wonder if this has anything to do with your problem: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...t=0entry99855
  6. Someone else posted about this on Nov 20th in the Backend Services forum... they were told to submit a ticket and never posted back so I don't know if the helpdesk was able to fix the problem. You could try that. also, try going to http://www.musicfrisk.com/webmail. You'll have to enter your email address and password but you should be able to access it that way.
  7. That's what I was trying to say above! You have to use your EMAIL login (email name + domain.com) not your cpanel login (user name) once you are past the cpanel login and at the webmail login screen... otherwise you'll be checking that 'catchall' account Bruce mentioned (the same one I was talking about that gets set up automatically for your domain).
  8. You can get there via ******/webmail. You'll have to use your cPanel login there if I'm not mistaken. Then you use your email login after selecting Horde or Neomail icon, I think. I'm not quite sure because it's been quite a while since I did it this way. I bookmarked my Horde inbox so I just go straight there now. At my office, I made my Horde inbox my homepage so I go straight there when I open my browser. So just get there through /cpanel or /webmail the first time and then bookmark it and make yourself a shortcut.
  9. Kathleen, I'm not a techie so excuse me if I don't explain this as well as it should be explained... but I had a similair situation with webmail when I first got my account. The problem was that an email account was automatically set up for me using the login for cpanel, i.e. "Account Name." I set up the account "nickname@****" to get my email (an email address I had already been using when my domain was hosted elsewhere). When I logged on to Horde, it defaulted to the "Account Name" account which of course had no mail in it. I had to log in by typing "nickname+****" and my password... then it pulled up my 'real' email account. I bookmarked it and from then on, the login defaults to the right account so long as I do it from my same computer. If I'm travelling and on a different computer, it will still default to the "Account Name" email account and I have to change it. I hope this helps and I hope I've explained it sufficiently. Perhaps someone from TCH can come along and explain it better. VI
  10. Yeah... I do use the cable. I think what Samantha and I are calling power options is what you called energy alternatives. But that's good to know about your screensaver starting even with all the other stuff set to NEVER. That answers my question and I'll keep my screensaver off too. Thanks my friend! VI
  11. Thank you both!!!! I set it to NEVER turn off the monitor or hard disk and NEVER go into standby or hibernation when the machine is plugged in as it will be when I run the slideshows. that should do it right? I also set the screensaver to NONE, but I'm wondering: is that really necessary? Seems like the screensaver wouldn't come on with all the other options set to NEVER. I'd like to keep a screensave set for when I'm running on batteries and the machine reverts back to going into standby, but if I can't it's ok. It's more impoortant that theses slideshows run continuously when I need them to.... Found a shortcut: after rightclicking the desktop and choosing the screensaver tab, you can access the power options right from there and you don't have to go to the start menu or the control panel. At least that is the case with Windows XP 5.1
  12. I want to run a continuous slideshow on my laptop PC using ACDSee that will last several hours. Problem is, if I don't move the cursor every so often, the machine goes into standby and the show stops. My screensaver comes on and when I do move the cursor I'm back at the account logon screen. It would be very difficult for me to periodically move the cursor as only the monitor portion of the laptop will be visible. The monitor will be framed and the frame will hide the keyboard blocking access to it. Is there a setting that will keep it from going into standby mode? Where would I find it? Thanks, guys. Randy
  13. I'd check with your clients first... sometimes 'real' mail ends up in the spam folder. If they regularly go in and check their spam folder to make sure there's nothing important in there, they may not want to have spam deleted untill they've had a chance to look at it. If you are confident that Spam Assasin is catching only spam, then implementing the above procedure is a good idea provided someone else comes along and confirms that it means what you think it means, i.e. that the spam messages don't go into the spam folder, but that they are just vaporized so that you don't need to empty the spam folder any longer. I can't answer that question... I'm just posting to let you know that the attorneys and others might want the option of checking to make sure SA hasn't flagged something erroneously. I know that in my accounting office we check the spam folder regularly and would never allow stuff to be deleted without us confirming that it is indeed spam. If it were me hosting their site, I'd give them the option to review the folder, empty it as needed (warning them two days ahead of time that it will be emptied), and charge them a little more for my trouble.... 14. I agree. I always appreciate it if, when people give advice, they include a more detailed explanation of how to do whatever it is. Even if the person asking doesn't need the 'lesson,' many of us reading it will. Luckily I'm not shy about asking for a step-by-step when I need it. And, even more luckily, you guys at TCH are always willing and usually able to give it. Thanks TCH!
  15. Thanks Jay. I found that setting in Explorer and disabled it. Thing is... I hardly ever use Explorer... I use Netscape as my browser (pop-ups are blocked) most of the time. The TravelZoo stuff comes from an ad in the AOL Instant Messenger window. (I don't use AOL for internet, just have the IM capability on my machine) Apparently they must have received a lot of complaints because now when the ad appears, the pop-up only pops up if you mouseover the ad. I disabled the shockwave flash object thingie but I just tried it and it still pops up if you mouseover the ad. So now my question is: should I keep it disabled? Will that affect anything else? Probably not since I'm not using IE anyway. But if there is some reason to keep it enabled, please let me know and I will go back and enable it again. VI
  16. I was kidding! But thanks, Thomas. You rock!
  17. How DO you download a file?
  18. I think regional parties on the same date are a great idea! I know there are a bunch of us in Arizona... you guys want to meet somewhere on the 12th and have a little TCH party of our own? Maybe we can import a few T-shirts and send the dinner check to Bill since we can't all make it to Michigan! (just kidding, Bill!) Seriously, if there's any interest I'd be happy to volunteer to make the reservations at a centrally located Phoenix restuarant. I'm good at making reservations!!! Maybe we can get Alan to come up from Tucson and Robert to come down from Las Vegas and anyone else in this neck of the woods to join us.
  19. It is my understanding that these kinds of emails generally contain a virus which is why they ask you to open an attachment to 'clean up your computer' or obtain further 'information' about the so-called spamming or viruses coming from your account. It is important to note that the attachments should NOT be opened.
  20. Yes. I know it happens with Horde and I'm pretty sure I've seen some posts about this from squirrelmail users too. Check this thread: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...c=8793&hl=email
  21. I do too, but my isp won't let me send files larger than 1 meg so I'd like to send through my own domain. I'll try port 26. Do you think lengthening the timeout perios will enable me to send larger files through my isp? I haven't tried that.
  22. So what do we do if they've closed port 25? I can't send email through my domain, only through my isp....
  23. Around the corner, huh? I guess I better start walking around in squares then, instead of the circles I usually walk around in! I did enjoy the learning process, Bob. I always do! It will get put to use when the right situation comes along. Thanks again, everyone. I really appreciate all the suggestins and help and especially the good wishes. VI
  24. Thanks, Bell. I'm totally bummed. I've got my windows "all dressed up and nowhere to show! (to paraphrase a bit)" Well, whatcha gonna do? Just have to regroup and start looking again. Unfortunately, the location made it real attractive for investors... don't know if I can keep them interested now. We shall see........... keeping my options open and my sense of humor intact.
  25. We didn't get the gallery space... they rented it to someone else. Back to square one.
