I was trying to send a zip file and it was too big. Problem is, it got stuck in my outbox and OE kept trying to send it every time I logged on until I could get it deleted. Well, needless to say, the mailbox I was sending it to got royally PO'd.... now it blocked me, which is completely understandable. What I'm more concerned about is whether or not it would have reported me as a spammer and to whom. What should I do??? VI

I think it might have something to do with the fact that hot links would be seen by the search engines as a 'vote' for the site that is linked when it comes to ranking and TotalChoice Hosting does not want to provide that link/vote. Another reason may be that since the forum guidelines forbid members and visitors to use the forums to promote their own commercial sites and interests, the URLs need to be disabled. Of course I could be totally wrong and I'm sure a Mod or Staff member will be along soon to correct me if I am. That is my understanding at the moment though.

Check Spam Assassin Mail Folder
Virtual Imager replied to bdkemp's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
I'm not sure you have to use Horde, but that's how I do it. Log into Horde, and open your inbox. From there you'll see on the top right a place where you can designate folders to open. Open Spam. I don't know if you have to log into each account seperately... I have all my accounts forwarded to one address so I just check that one. Last week I learned (on this forum) how to NOT have to go online and log into Horde to check the spam. See this thread. Now I get the spam in a spam folder I created in Outlook Express... much easier. HTH VI {Edit: Fixed link} -
I vote for coincidence as the explanation... stranger things have happened.
-
It worked on my PC too, but when I tried to open the image from the desktop I got the 'forbidden' 403 error. I guess hotlink protection takes over at that point.

We'll miss you, Charlotte. Don't be a stranger! VI

I think the FILENAMES of your images are more important than the alt tags. If your image is of a sunset, it is important that it be named sunset.jpg instead of image 007.jpg. If you can get even more specific in your file name (eg.. maui_sunset.jpg) that's even better to insure that it is found in a search for "maui sunset" because there are several milliion sunset.jpgs out there (including many by me!). Also, the PAGE names are very important... if your image is on a page named www.youdomain.com/sunsets.html that will help a lot. The page title, description, and keywords all come into play here too, although current thinking, I'm told, is that keywords aren't as important as they once were in terms of indexing and placement. This is not to say that the alt tags, keywords, descriptions, and anything else you can enter and tie to the image aren't important. It all helps. Hope this helps... VI

You can do it... We're all praying and rooting for you... VI

if you try to remove this: from the html, it will indeed put a virus on your computer. I tried it twice and both times Norton AV detected a virus and denied it access. Could be a coincidence that I got two identical viruses from other sources at exactly the times I published those two pages (at seperate times), but I doubt it. In Mozilla, if the alert box happens to pop up on top of an image, rather than on text or blank space on the page, you will get the menu with the image save options when you click ok. I don't get a warning on mouseover in either Netscape 7.0 or IE 6.0... Just the alert box. VI

I think disabling the right click for images only is a good idea.... I'm hoping some of you gurus will rewrite this script so it works properly (not just in IE) and doesn't contain any imbedded viruses, and then post it here. That would be awesome! VI
-
I think it depends on where on the page that alert box pops up and what's under it when you click the "OK" because sometimes i get the menu that comes up when you right click an image and sometimes I get the one that comes up when you right click elsewhere on a page (the one that allows you to go Back, reload, etc. I guess it's still good for IE (most of the world is still using it) and better than a total right click disable which I agree is VERY annoying!
-
I just added the script from Dynamic Drive to disable right click on images only. IT DOESN'T WORK! When you right click the image you get the message that right click is disabled on images, but when you close that message box either by clicking OK or by the X, you get all the right-click options including Save Image, View Image, Copy image, etc for wherever your cursor is when you click the OK or the X. At least in Netscape 7.0. It seems to work fine in IE. Wondering if some of you could check out my gallery pages in your browsers and let me know what's up? Note: I only added the script to the actual gallery pages, not the slideshows. Also, just as an aside... if you change or customize any of the html in the script, Dynamic Drive attempts to put a virus on your machine. Norton caught it, thankfully. Here's a link to my Virtual New York gallery page. Please let me know. I'm considering removing the script altogether... Thanks, VI

Thanks, Bruce. Sounds like a similair solution to Ellen's, but having the separate folder in my existing email account seems a little more convenient. This way I don't have to check two accounts. I set it up last night, checked it this morning, and it works! SA relabeled the subjects of emails it considers spam to *****SPAM***** and OE put them in a separate folder. Is there some security reason or other reason that a 2nd email account might be preferable.??? I truly do learn something new every day around here. Thank you all. VI

Thanks Ellen and Rob! that's exactly the info I needed to at least not have to go online to check the folder. I guess I can come up with other rules that will allow most of the important stuff through. If not, it just got way easier to deal with. Thanks again! VI

Anyone???? I can't be the only one out here who finds 'important' mail in the spam folder. O the only one tired of having to go online to check the folder. Anyone have any solutiions?

A lot of stuff that I want to see ends up in my spam folder. This brings up several questions: 1. Is there a simple way to tell whoever (or whatever) I need to tell that a certain message/sender is not spam? I use Hotmail as an extra account for certain things and in their junkmail view you can select a message and click "this is not junk" and all future emails from that address will go to your inbox. Seems easy enough. Do we have something like that? Or 2. Do I have to individually add each of these senders to an allow list? 3. Can I get these messages to download if I create a local Spam folder in OE so I don't have to go online to my Horde mailbox to see what's in the spam folder and if it's something I need? Seems like every time I check my email with OE I also have to go online to check Horde... a lot of extra steps. I'm sure there's an easier way that I'm just not aware of. VI

I have two printers installed. I can only print with the Epson once.... then I have to restart in order to print again. Also, if I have used either printer, I often (but not always) get a message that something is preventing my computer from entering the standby mode. Or, if I'm trying to shut down, I have to click "end now" a bunch of times. Grrrrr. Mad!!!

Email "from" Me, Not Really From Me!
Virtual Imager replied to runninghorse's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
So what are the dangers? Let's say a bunch actually do get delivered and the recipients report them as spam... since the address uses his domain name, is there a potential danger that he will be accused of spamming? Or is the fact that they don't originate from his IP address enough to protect him? -

I think you need to go to intuitiveisp.com. They are the hosting/registration arm of Intuitive Engineering. (I found that out by checking out the Intuitive Engineering website) There you can log in and manage your account. This is from the FAQ section of Intuitive's website: If all else fails send email to help@intuitiveisp.com Hope this helps. I know how frustrating it is to not know how to do something. The welcome letter makes it sound easy ("point your DNS servers to TCH"), but if you've never done it before it could seem overwhelming. Good luck! VI -
Thanks, Don... but it looks like I won't need to do the sub-domains. And thanks, Rob. You're the best! I had to make some changes to the captions and stuff, and I thought I lost everything, but I actually got the revision uploaded! There are still some changes and customizations I'd like to make when I learn how.... but, it's a good basic gallery and was very easy to create using Photoshop. Check them out!! All feedback welcome and appreciated: New Americana Gallery New Arizona Gallery VI

I'm thinking that since Photoshop creates an entire site for the photo gallery, perhaps I should have a 'sub-domain' that I upload a 'new site' to and then link to the new site. Can I do this? Is it expensive or part of my plan now? How exactly doI do it? Can I do it for each gallery I want to create?
-
I'm not sure this is the correct place to post... but I have what I think is a web design question: I've created a Web Photo Gallery/Slideshow using Photoshop that I'd now like to add to my site. Specifically, it is a gallery of my Arizona images that I'd like to have open in a new window when a link from my Virtual Arizona page is clicked. Photoshop does the following: I ftp'd all of those folders/files to my public-html file and created the link to index.htm (also tried renaming index.htm to azgallery.htm and creating a link for that). All I get is 404 Not Found errors. What am I doing wrong? VI

Would People Mind To Fill In My Questionnaire?
Virtual Imager replied to andypeat's topic in Open Discussion
You're welcome. At first I thought it was about stocks, not socks. Couldn't imagine what the questions about colour and comfort were all about. Duh! Good luck...
