Anonymous FTP is not allowed on TCH servers. If you want to give people an ID and Password you can go to cpanel and set up an ftp account and point it to that folder; just remember you are responsible for everything that gets sent up there and downloaded.

The install instructions are here. Based off them I think you won't be able to install this on TCH servers, for these reasons: and Unless you're on a dedicated server then these changes would affect everyone and so won't be done. I'd suggest you locate a more shared-hosting friendly package. =)

This is all just guesswork, however I think that there could be a few causes: 1) Rotation of log files and time of month. 2) Amount of email on server, and archival thereof. Ok, that's my two shots at it. I'm trying to think of other content that may change for a standard account, as that's what I'd look to for the changes.

What you describe would be a violation of the AUP. A different method of doing it doesn't make it within the rules. =)

Your best bet is to upload the mysql file to your server in a specific location and then submit a ticket to technical support asking them to import it from the command line. Include the details of where the file is and it's name, the database name and other relevant details.

OSX plans for world domination? Well no, I never said that only OSX could read it - I simply said how to do it with that because well, that's what I've got. I'm fairly confident that you can do it via Outlook's import; which mail client do you normally use? I'm happy to try to help just you didn't supply much info. =)

No idea what OS you're using. In mail.app on OSX you can go to File -> Import Mailboxes - Other -> and choose mbox. =)

You can do some search engine optimization (SEO) and there is help with that in the SEO forum here. You can also try to use ping-o-matic on updates; this is a list of recently updated sites through a few mediums and can generate a bit of traffic. The other thing is to get out there and get your site added to community lists, etc. Take part in other's sites and you may find your readership increasing. I also posted an article on winning friends and influencing people about building readership - so that and the responses might help =) Note, that is a blogging specific forum so some of the information is rather specific. =) Hope that helps!

You have to go via the forums to see the Really Cool Stuff - not everyone has this problem with skype but enough do that it makes me think it's not my system (which is a top of the line 15" powerbook )

As a minor cheat you could have run mt-check.cgi too (only need to upload that one file) to see...

You can always go to cpanel and in the left corner it says "installed perl modules, click to view" and then do a find in page for the one you want. Storable is listed in my installed ones (server65) for instance. =)

I used it on the PC and it was great; on the Mac it's great for the first few minutes and then quickly starts eatting all the cycles so nohing is useable and even skype itself starts to lag. I'm waiting for a new beta before trying again. =)

The thing you quoted, Rob, says that you will not lose settings when you uninstall (you poor PC users ) The reason for that is it stores settings ina profile folder that does not get removed on uninstall ; so you don't need to remember the settings. At least that's how I read it. I upgraded but I'm on OSX so there's no real install process, just copy the program hehe. =)

You can install phpmyadmin yourself (it's pretty easy) and password protect it; then give the id/pass to the people you want to use it. That won't give them access to cpanel if you use a different id/pass.

The cron job that I posted earlier in this thread overwrites the old backup; so there will be no "back load" so to speak. =)

VNC and it's free. That's what we used at my old job; it's cross platform which is yummy and it was always very fast. =)

Added. =) Just fyi, in firefox .9 on OSX your left menu (the green one) all of the items overlap each other making them impossible to see/use. Just thought you'd want to know =)

No matter what the docs suggest; If you're not posting from afar that often or worried about it updating *immediately* then the slower the cronjob the safer you are; and the happier all around. =)

Try Transmit on OSX. It's fantastic and I use it when I want to use a GUI. You can chmod via terminal ftp though. =)

30-60 minutes should be fine; but that said I ditched MT a long time ago now, so I'm not really sure how resource intensive this is. I'd run it a few times while there and make sure you keep a close eye on it at first; preferably at a "non-busy" time.
