Having chatted with you via IM I know this is not a big issue with you but the topic comes up at times and is worth clarifying. You can accomplish the organizational structure by using a couple of methods. Using KW's example, you could combine subdomains and directories with something like vacations.mysite.com/2003 if you wanted all the vacations to be a division off your site. You could also use different, similar, subdomains such as 2003-vacations.mysite.com and 2002-vacations.mysite.com.

Does your old host have the cPanel for managing your site. If so, you should be able to back-up your site and transfer it.

You can run php-Nuke or Post-Nuke on your TCH account. I believe the newer servers have it available in the cPanel as an install option. I have installed both on my account to play with in the past and several other users on the board can help you if you need to install it as well. Search the board for nuke and you can find several threads concerning this topic.

Hard to say exactly why it still doesn't show up for you but it could be your ISP's namerservers still have not updated. I pinged the site and got the TCH IP so it is working here (and Charter is sometimes pretty slow about updating the nameservers.) Give it time and you should be fine.

When I moved my site over I switched to using a MySQL database and find it works much better for me. I exported all my posts from the previous board and then installed here fresh and imported the posts to the new board. My previous board required cgi files to be run from the cgi-bin directory. On here you can run cgi files from any directory and the MT install is easier if you just copy everything to a subdirectory and set it up there. The instructions on the TCH Help page should be useful.

I really like Gallery but found the installation docs a bit sparse. I looked around their website and forums and got things running but it took a while the first time I installed. It would be good to have help notes on the TCH Help page. I personally prefer Gallery over Coppermine but found Coppermine much easier to install. My photo page is found here.

The mt-db-pass.cgi file should be in your /MT directory. You can edit it in the File Manager of cPanel and put your password for the MySQL database there. You are correct that the DataSource settings do not apply to your set up if you are using MySQL. If you want to set up your weblog in a separate directory than your main one (i.e. you want to have a directory /weblog for your weblog) then create it. Hope this helps some.

I looked at the cgiirc script and got it to run but it never would connect to a server. This section in the Readme concerns me, however. Since we are on shared hosting, it seems to me that there would be the danger of this type of program using a lot of CPU cycles. You might want to check with the admins before installing.

What is the domain you are trying to log in to? Can you see the sites in your browser?

Go to this thread for a little more info on updating 1.0.1 to the newer version. It's pretty simple and there are upgrade instructions to walk you through it.

What kind of control do you have on your previous host? Is it through cPanel? If so, you can do a backup of the database and download it to your computer then restore it onto your TCH site. If you have phpMyAdmin you can back up the info that way. I moved an InVision board over form another site and used the admin panel in that program to back up my data base. I've seen cases where the tech guys here would move a site over if you have cPanel on the other host. Give us some more info and we can be more precise.

I helped her get Movable Type set up last night so all should be well. On another note, I just got through installing Red Hat 9 on my laptop. Haven't played with it much but I'm using it now and it works great. The install was very smooth and I'm not getting the key bounce I got with the last version of Linux I put on here.

I just downloaded a file from the 1.1 section and tried importing it. I had my permissions set at 755 and it did give the the same error you got, I believe. I hit Back on my browser and then went into my site using an FTP program (I use Filezilla.) I changed the permissions on the archive_in, skins, and style_images folders to 777 and it worked. Not sure what the problem is with File Manager but you might try using an FTP program to get in. Filezilla is pretty easy since you can right click on the folder to change its permissions. It is a free program from http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/.
