I moved my site over a couple of months ago and then moved another site I help with over a few weeks later. One option would be to have the webmail open in a new window. Then when they close the email window they would be back in the main site. If you go back to the cPanel and click on the Simple Guestbook under the CGI Scripts Menu (just like you did when you installed it) you will have an option to View Guestbook (and Manage Guestbook). HTH

A google search for "install ranks phpbb images" gave the following address link. You might try leaving off the slash before images, i.e. "images/ranks/filename.gif" and see if that works.

The Installation Manual for MT is the best source for help on installing it. I found it to be less complicated to install on my site with TCH than with my previous host mainly because that previous host required that all cgi files had to be within the cgi-bin subdirectory. That meant putting some files in the cgi-bin subdirectory and others in a directory outside of the cgi-bin directory. To set up on TCH it seems easier to me to create a directory in your public_html directory called mt or movabletype or blog, etc. You can then copy everything into that directory and follow the directions to edit the mt.cfg file and be up and running fairly quickly. I helped sceneco with his problem mentioned in this thread. After talking to the resident MT guru, rayners, we traced the problem to one statement in the config file that points to the url of the MT cgi files. Basically you have a statement that says CGIpath http://www.******/mtdirectoryname where the mtdirectoryname is where you have the cgi files. The problem is, if your domain has not propagated you will get an internal error trying to run the MT setup file since it can't find the directory. To get around the problem you have to use CGIPath http://ipaddress/~username/mtdirectoryname instead. Movable Type is a great program. I recommend it highly and hope to have time this summer to learn more of the ins and outs of it.

I've seen that error but can't remember offhand what I did to correct the problem. Some basic things I remember. 1. Be sure that you have the correct permissions set for the .cgi files and directories. 2. Be sure that you have created a database. It should have the form of tchusername_databasename. Assign a user to the database in the form of tchusername_assignedusername. 3. Make sure you have your path to the cgi files set correctly in mt.cfg 4. Add the lines to the mt.cfg file for sql support as outlined in the installation docs under Configuration. 5. Set the password in mt-db-pass.cgi 6. When all else fails, go back and re-read the installation docs carefully to see that all steps have been followed. The first time I installed MT it took some trial and error. The last couple of times it has gone smoothly. One advantage on TCH is that you can install to a directory outside your cgi-bin directory which simplifies where different subdirectories lie. I have installed into a directory called mt and put everything there and set permissions and it worked fine. Good luck. Once you have it working it is great.

If you choose to use a MySQL database you will have to create one in the cPanel and put the info in your MT config file along with the password in the password file.

I'm not sure I understand the problem. I signed up for a personal account and a few weeks later signed up for a separate account for our church. While both show up in under billing in my help desk account, the main account names and passwords are completely separate for the two accounts.

I agree with the consensus that it is a nice looking format. It will take me a little time to get used to where all the links are now. As for things needing attention, the Hosting Assured banner that says "Click Here" does not have a link yet.

You can run a discussion board like this one on your site. Several of us run Invision Boards and while you have to set it up yourself, the process is pretty easy.

Ah, memory lane. I remember the first computer modifications I made were to a TRS-80 in 1979 that came with 16k of memory and I added another 16k by opening the case (voiding the warranty) and seems there was some soldering that had to be done. It didn't even come with a disk drive so programs were on cassette tape. I bought a stringy floppy (no jokes please) and was able to load programs in half the time. My first computer with hard drive a a whopping 5 meg drive which I later sold and replaced it with a giant 20 meg drive. I don't miss waiting 20 minutes to download a 16k Scott Adams game with a 300 baud modem. (I now run some of those programs on my Visor Handspring.)

In looking through the source I noticed that some of the graphics that are missing have capital letters at the beginning, some don't. You might check that to see if it is the problem. I generally use all lower case letters for my filenames of html files and graphics files. Some FTP programs will automatically convert and if your source code in the html file says "Picture.jpg" and the file gets uploaded as "picture.jpg" you will get the infamous red x where it should be.

When did you sign up? Have you received your welcome email with account information? I had a problem when I signed up once by choosing the wrong account type and went to the online chat to talk to someone who was able to fix me up by cancelling the first account and having me sign up again. You might give that a try. I'm not sure what the restraints are on the main account name. It may have to be fewer than the nine letters in blackhood. I'm sure an administrator will have more answers for you. Good luck.

After you sign up you will receive a welcome email with information on DNS server names, etc. Included is information on how to transfer your website using an IP address which is necessary before the domain changes propagate. You can use that to test the site and get everything working correctly before actually making the nameserver changes with your registrar.

I agree with Beth. I have a site that I built for my math students to practice concepts from class, take quizzes, etc. and I used a subdomain to make it easy to remember. The main problem I had was that rather than type math.veazeys.com several added www in front of it and got en error. Another advantage is that you can view stats for each subdomain from the cPanel so I can tell easily how many people are viewing specific portions of my site.

I downloaded the Siteframe program and installed it. It seems to work fine on here. Took about 20 minutes to go through the process. You can see it Here. Looks a lot like PhpNuke and the like.

Is this a script to set up your database? I've seen that with several scripts. To use it you create your database and then go to phpmyadmin and select it. Then you go to the SQL tab (at the top) and then can use Browse to select the file on your computer and hit Go. It should then give you a message to let you know whether it was succesful or had errors.

If all else fails, blame it on someone else.

I run my Movable Type cgi files outside of the cgi-bin directory.

I've used Smart FTP, FTP Commander, and Filezilla. All are free and work well. I use Filezilla most but have FTP Commander on my machine at school.

I just tried it out from the cPanel again and something indeed is broken. I have installed it twice before and was able to just jump right into the forum after the install. Now it runs the install program instead, asking for all the information that previously was set up automatically. To top it off, after getting everything set up it wouldn't automatically write the config file so I had to have it sent to me and then FTP it into place manually.
