"Yumm, addresses!" - Spammer's email harvesting program. I'm sure if you submit a helpdesk ticket the tech guys can help you figure out what happenend and why. In the meantime you may want to edit your post and remove your email addresses so that the spammers can't see it -- Google's all over this forum so there's no reason to believe the spammers aren't either.

Well, let me take a shot at that without discussing the other company. Here you get great service, excellent member forums with all these great folks out there, as low as $4 / month, and a company willing to discuss the costs with you when you submit a helpdesk ticket asking about your current plan with more space. I'd say that no one compares to TCH (not in my experience anyway, thus why I'm a mod here - just trying to help) and you should submit a ticket if you have specific needs that aren't in the standard packages. In my opinion, you can try others but why - it's just not worth it to me to even look at those offers - the prices here are rock bottom and the support more than makes up for any cut-rate service that will pile 10000 accounts on one server. By the way, original post edited - no sense promoting other competitors to TCH in TCH's forums. Ah, Thomas beat me to it.

It means that Schmoe is sharing his modifications with us. If TCH were to implement such a script there would be a period of testing and I am pretty sure there would be an announcement that it was going to happen. If I'm not mistaken, however, this is a script that lets you show your stats to others without them going into Cpanel. Most of the clients here will not even have this code and if they do they installed it themselves and it wouldn't be changed without notification... if at all.

These guys stand to lose a great deal of money like this so they make smarter bots to get our email addresses.

Tracy, I think in this case a form would be the best for you for a couple of reasons. First is that a well written form can not be used to get your email address. The second is that you can customize it for your special needs - ask them what kind of artwork they need or what the application would be. It gets you better information than just "How much do you charge for a picture?"

Welcome Tracy! The only problem with your suggestion I can see is that it requires human intervention and possible frustration. They can't just click on something nd get a message to you.

I use the Help2Go Detective to check my stuff out. It's very good and lots of people keep it updated pretty well.

Go to your settings for the FTP site to publish to and switch the PASSV Passive FTP. I'm at work and can't look up whether it is supposed to be on or off but try the opposite of what it is now. That's the most common cause of that error that we have seen here.

Not necessarily, but possibly. On one of my sites I have the framework, links, headers, etc all in one php file named index.php. In that, at the appropriate place I have a statement in PHP coding that says to include the contents of a file named in the variable FILE. This lets me have just the interior content of a page in a file named aboutus.htm and the framework is in only one file instead of 70. On my links I just enter mytchsite.com/index.php?file=aboutus.htm and I get the framework from index.php and the "guts" of the site from the small file aboutus.htm If it is a catalog type site then they can do the same thing but the photos of the items and the descriptions are usually in mySQL databases instead of separate files.

The problem I read about a long time ago was that when updates happened in a large site the CPU usage would go thru the roof. That was a way old version and may not even be an issue with the newer ones... I've not read much since then. I found the info I had before in a Mambo discussion group... they may be able to help answer the questions of which size makes it go crazy.

Sorry for the delay. I agree completely with what Rob said (oh my gosh, did I say that? ) about the meta data. Surefire's right also about the tags being a big help and the text of links back to your site. Indeed, content is king, but like the stock market it has its highs and lows. I've been told that stocks on average return 12% but that's over the long haul - short term is high potential at high risk. If you use an SEO shortcut then you are facing the same risks ... if they change the search engine (SE) programming the bottom may drop out on you. Any good SEO expert will tell you that patience is a requirement to do well over time. Now, a couple of observations that I hope will help. 1. You have your site name in the keywords. Unless "Ant & Sons" is well known and someone will be searching for it by name this will not help you and may hurt. 2. Stocks/investing is a pretty competitive area - it will take a LOT of work to rank well. 3. Repeating your keywords won't help either. In "the old days" you had to list "stock, stock market, stocks," etc. Now many of the SE's have intelligent word parsing so this may actually seem like a duplication to them. If you put the most commonly searched for variant of a word then it is likely any relevant search will look ok to the engine. 4. I would put what your site is about in the title... something like: "Stocks, bonds and other investments." or something that tells what you're about. (see next.) 5. At first glance I can't really tell what your site is about. I know it's about investing but it neither draws me in, nor, I suppose, would it draw a search engine. Without using your reasoning abilities, look at the text and see if you can find a theme... to a stupid computer (and a hopefully not-as-stupid me) it is just a bunch of words... you talk about: surges in demand US debt baby boomers pension funds investors Europe Japan treasuries bond prices yields And that's just the first paragraph. You can probably imagine the computer having a hard time pegging this site as whatever it truly is. The copy seems to have been written by an advertising person trying to draw the viewer in to whatever solution it is you have to offer, but for a search engine helping a person find "investment guidance", it has no chance of making the match. The bottom line is that the person sitting out there that is looking for your services will type in certain words and phrases... you need to find out what they are and use them generously on your site's pages so the engines can see that you are a match for them when they type in that particular phrase/word. I trust that these comments will help get you inside the head of the search engines a little and see where you can change your site to best meet their and your needs. Above all, have patience - things in the search engine world changes on the palentological timeframe (or so it seems).

Has DMOZ listed your site? Unless that has happened you won't show up on Google's directory from the sounds of it. Some folks have great success with DMOZ and others can't get on to save their lives. It's pretty hit-or-miss for some.

Thase guys crack me up! And regarding the zoom... I knew it all along!!! A related thing... I read that NASA has a lunar orbiter that will take images of very good resolution and the article said that NASA would prove all those people that think the moon landings were faked wrong by getting shots of the lunar rover they left behind some 30 years ago. Of course, I guess they could photoshop the images they get back to add a little gocart.

Don't forget that the recommended way to get support is to submit a helpdesk ticket. The link is at the top of every page in the forums. As others have said, it's been the policy forever. The truth is that if we could buy a $4/month account and host many sites on it then it would be pretty easy to bring a server (no matter how powerful) to its knees and that's not the way Bill does things. I agree with Don that it sure makes it nice to know our sites are on servers that perform as well as these here do.

Don't forget that you can add bandwidth to any plan at a cost of $2.50 per month per Gigabyte of bandwidth. That may be a solution for some. Also upgrading to the next higher package, although it has extras you may not need, would also prove to be the most cost effective for some. At least you're not on one of those "other guys" where you don't need the bandwidth because they are down 30% of the time!

I have run into this several times over the past few weeks and thought I'd share it with the Family in case any of you have the same problem and wondered if it had anything to do with TCH (it doesn't!). One of my clients has an AOL account and likes it and won't get rid of it for a better ISP. In an effort to provide him what he wants, I forward email from his domain here at TCH to my Gmail account and then filters there forward to AOL. The problem is that I keep getting errors saying that delivery to the aol address failed permanently. In order to not let this turn into an AOL bash, which I am tempted to do, I will simply say that if you are getting these errors read the below links. The bottom line is that when a site is listed by AOL (who has sloppy procedures in my opinion) and an email is sent to an AOL user referring to such a site, that email will get blocked, the user knows nothing about it and the sender thinks it's just a bad address. If you have any friends using AOL you may want to warn them about this and that they may be missing emails even if their spam settings are turned off.
