Depending on your scripts, it could be simply that the Data Center that holds your web site is in another time zone, 1 hour off from you.

Look for a utility called POLEDIT - it's great for this kind of thing. You can also do it in the XP settings but it's not easy at all.

What can you do other than what you did? Legal action? Kinda expensive and possibly inconclusive for a story/joke/whatever you posted wouldn't you think? How many times have you or I told a joke we heard from someone else without any thought to copyrights or ownership? If you see something on a website that your friend would like, don't you copy it and send it? If that friend is expletive-sensitive then wouldn't you edit it slightly? I'm not picking on you - they were wrong to post it - but courts would be useless in this case and there are really no other legal alternatives. Spam-bombing may seem like a fitting punishment but it's not legal, for instance. This is one of the problems with the information age.

Wow, I'm glad to see I'm not the only non-fan. The last Star Wars I saw was Return of the Jedi on TV.

What Bruce said. I've been using this method for awhile now and it works great! It's easy to do (Cpanel - email - forwarders - name@mytchdomain.com forwards to name@myotheremailplace) and takes about 30 seconds to set up. Ending the spam takes about 15 seconds so it's a very effective tool this kind of account setup allows us. I even have a few "I expect some spam but not too much" addresses (like "generic") that I use for multiple "I don't care in the long run" websites. When they get to sending too much to me I just dump them and take out a bunch of sites at once. I also have one called spam@mytchdomain.com that I use for sites I expect to spam me. I'll forward to a real address while waiting for registration passwords to come through and then as soon as I get what I'm expecting I can turn it right back to :fail: which bounces the emails. Edit: You can't set a forwarder to :fail: - I misspoke. You can, however, remove the forward and if your default address is set to :fail: it has this effect.

Isn't Serpentine a big fan? His "Netscape kicks butt" signature makes it seem so. No, wait, that's Farscape - my bad. (Although all the tagalong programs Netscape suckers you into installing are reminiscent of Harvey buzzing about in John's head. Wonder if a Diagnosan can get rid of Netscape from a PC?)

Check out SpamBayes - it's an Outlook addin that has trainable Bayesian filtering.

Congrats guys! (Now you know how he can run the Abuse Department - after 7 kids there's no such thing as unmanageable abuse )

Thanks DJ! It's great to hear from others whom TCH has saved from the sludge called "web hosting services" out there. Bill runs a class act with honor and character and that's why I'm still here... you won't find any better.

I'd much rather be driving one of those vettes than riding a horse... and DUI's not a problem - I don't drink
-
Yeah, now when I get drunk and ride my horse home from the bar the cops don't bother me.

Exactly what Serp said - links to your site from sites that the search engines visit often are the best way. There's a lot of talk, and my experimenting seems to agree, that Google won't index any new site for as long as a year so definitely aim at others as well.
-
As Andy said, it is mostly for Search Engines. It's like the notice you see on some links that says "This site has moved, please update your links"... they stop looking at the old address on a perm redirect.

But in Kentucky you can drive a tractor at any age but as a recent fark.com article states, in KY a horse is considered a vehicle for purposes of DUI charges. What a mixed up state I'm from! Is there a fund being collected to take a hit out on this fool? Perhaps there should be.

Those files allow all the "neat" features of FP such as themes and templating to function. You can try deleting them, but if you are using any of FP's features other than just pure-plain HTML then they will probably break.

Whoo! More friends and family members! Welcome Raj!

Welcome to the team Muhammad! Glad to have you here.

Welcome to the crew, Ryan!

It may be worth it to try over at hotscripts.com If you use your own in, say, PHP then you can be sure it's fast and there are probably some that don't require ads.

Awesome Weezy!!! Keep submitting them - enough will get in to make you famous - or at least give you enough cash to buy some film for your digital camera The money's not as cool as having them accept your photos though. Congrats!

When you send using Gmail's SMTP the recipient sees "From: you@gmail.com" so when they hit reply it goes back to there. It sounds like you have a setting wrong with your SMTP portion of the email client. Check the documentation again and make sure you didn't miss anything in that part like the (on a PC) part that says SMTP requires authentication - this means you have to log in before it will send your email and is designed to stop spammers using your account for bad things. If that doesn't help then try back here. Maybe one of our family is familiar with Macs et al - I'm not.

One thing I do that helps is to have Spam Assassin here set to a normal (4-6 depending on the account) setting and then forward everything to Gmail which seems to have very good spam filtering as well. From there I forward the email out to one of my clients that needs stuf forwarded to AOL. That way there's no auto forwarding to AOL from TCH (a VERY bad idea because of spam) and I can direct it any way I want with Gmail. On top of that I get a ton of storage so I can keep the emails around a long time.

How To Bounce Invalid E-mail Addresses?
Deverill replied to voilsb's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
If you have any software on your site that can be hacked, such as blogs or guestbooks, then check to be sure they are all the latest version. Also make sure you have strong passwords on everything. Someone may have just "dictionary attacked" your account if it's not a good password. Finally, you may be able to get the tech guys to check the logs for you by submitting a Help Desk ticket and asking them if they can find anything. Although it is our responsibility to secure our own sites they may be able to help you out. -
Oh yeah? Well we have folks year round that do their own tests on categories not in there! Scooters Bicycles Jet Skis Seriously, folks come here to party and then want to play but some toys are very dangerous if not used with a clear mind so please, be careful out there!

What Serpentine says is true. You will almost never get the same rank for a phrase as a single word, even if the word is in the phrase, unless it is a made-up word.
