It's even worse than that. The company I work for does narrated trolley tours of the island (historictours.com if you wanna see one) and often does tours or charters out for school classes to go from the school to the aquarium or whatever. They are telling us that the trolley drivers must get cleared. I agree with the concept upon which the law is based, but what's a trolley driver on a public street in broad open daylight with 5 teachers onboard going to do for heaven's sake! Good heart - bad brain is how I'd describe the law. I don't see it lasting in its current form for long.

Awesome, Greg, thanks! My mother had a stroke about 8 years ago and from what I learned afterwards these things you mention are dead-on right. Unfortunately, by the time the symptoms happen you have less than 3 minutes to fix the damage or brain damage will occur - but quick action can reduce the effects and prevent other problems like pressure building inside the brain cavity from blood spillage (hemorragic stroke) or compounded problems by not taking care of the clot in that kind of stroke. Also important is that strokes are different than heart attacks. In a hemorragic stroke the blood vessel pops, usually due to extreme blood pressure, and the old "take an aspirin" treatment for heart attack will make that kind of stroke much much worse. By the way, those 3 things require different parts of the brain to do which checks for left and right-side of the brain strokes. My mom had a left-side stroke and in that kind the visual field can be split in half and everything left of center just doesn't exist to the victim. My mom was so mad because in the hospital one morning she missed half of her breakfast because she didn't see it. The brain is a strange and wonderous thing. Good stuff... thanks!

No problems for me, but then again, my audience is not from China. Their government is very strange/strict on their internet usage and it would not surprise me if they banned every non-government-run site. It's good to know but bad to hear, Ictus. Guess that's why the "Land of the Free" is the place for me.

I would look for something else to be the source of the problem. When your browser says "I want to look at XYZ" the server will honor that request or not, depending on many things including hotlink settings. At that point the browser has no control over it, nor does the site depend on the browser to decide what to show and what not to. Now, it may be true that you went to the site and it was cached and the new IE handles the cache differently. You should go to Tools - Internet Options and clear your cache to get a proper perspective on whether it is working or not.

Do take the time to read the tutorial Thomas mentioned in his reply. It has a pretty basic (as much as possible) description of what to do. There are, if I remember correctly, three directories that need to be CHMODed but it is all laid out in step by step fashion. The link Thomas gave is a tutorial here, not on the uber-technical Coppermine site.

Prices are holding strong at around $3.09 here in Key West. The funny thing is that I live at MM 17, Key West is MM0 and the other direction at about MM 30 the gas is $2.89 Crazy stuff... they are just doing it cuz they can in KW.

If the data is part of a larger thing, for instance, "Hi _Jim_ you last logged in on _September 10_," then a database would be better than searching through 100,000 lines of a text file. If it is simply an include such as many sites have for copyright notices then a flat file containing only that info would be hugely better. SQL databases rule when you have to look up a piece of data from within 1000's but only after they get to a certain size - if you have 3 names a flat file would be quicker - if you have 300 then SQL may be... it all depends on the type of data.

Just a quick point of clarification. They are not getting your email address from the forms. It is impossible for a well-written form to divulge the email address because the server is doing the mail. What is happening is bots are hitting your web page with the form, filling it in and hitting submit... or at least making it look that way to your web server. They don't have your email address but you are getting junk as if they did, it's just in the form of a submitted form and not a free-form email. This kind of thing is exactly why they came up with the "Type in the letters you see in the graphic to the right" but even that is not foolproof. If you have a small to medium site that does not draw international attention you might get by with making one of your fields say "Enter the word Boo in the box below" and if the emailed form doesn't have Boo in it throw it out. If you have a huge site they really want to get at then they will have someone modify the bot to enter Boo.

If you have time, patience and desire then the best is to make a great site and get people to link to it and let the search engines find it themselves. The alternative is paid-advertisement either on a site that would send people to yours or with something like Google Adwords. For example, if you have a site that sells doggy treats then a HUGE pet shelter or pet health site may be worth contacting to see if you can advertise with them. Search engine submission services are pretty much a waste. Remember, however, that search engines are different than directories - they usually have to be submitted to by hand.

There is no real way to totally stop them. If I know or can guess your email address I can fake an email coming from you... it's very easy to do. One thing you may do if it fits into your needs is to use a non-obvious name. "Mike" could be easily guessed - they may be sending it to mike, dave, bill, fred, susie, etc @ whatever domain they can find that exists. In the mid-ish 1900's when Unix was starting to become popular in universities some guys tried to hack into several systems. They found that By the way, one of the "authors" was the father of the punk-kid Robert T Morris that released the first publicized worm in 1988 that wrecked havoc. In other words, don't be predictable in any way and you'll have a better chance of avoiding the jerks out there spamming.

When you are ready you can submit a helpdesk ticket and the techs will get the information they need from you and set it up to go to the other mail service.

The down side is that I set it up and sent something to myself and it said (faked email addresses): from someone@gmail.com on behalf of My Name [me@mytchdomain.com] It's good but it seems to take away from the authenticity of the email since it's "on behalf of" and certainly makes it impossible to hide your main gmail address. (probably to curb spammers trying to use this) Still a step in the right direction.

I saw a mp3 download site that made my head swim: 1. It was something .RU 2. It was registered in British Virgin Islands 3. "Purple Rain" was $0.83 If it seems too good to be true then it isn't true. (I'll relay my experiences with a money order scammer when it is over - I'm trying to get law enforcement involved before I lose them - I'm not sending money and they will lose interest soon so the L.E folks need to jump on it if they want to. Again - too good to be true strikes again.)

I don't remember the details because it was quite awhile ago that I did Adsense, but it has to do with the settings at Google. Go into your account at Google and see if there's not a place where you put your site without the www and see if you can add it with www's.

Something I found interesting. Yes, the companies are gouging us because they can and the hurricane is a great excuse... but... At least here in Key West, we have hurt ourselves more. Because everyone panicked and made a run on the stations, their schedules have been disrupted. Instead of X trucks per month like normal, they need to do 3 trucks NOW and that costs them a boatload more from the providers in Miami. There is no excuse though. Most of what was hurt in LA was Natural Gas and the limitation on gasoline is not oil but refineries. We have 20 year old refineries and nothing significant build since. They were saying that 2 ports in South Florida had a total of about 130 million gallons of fuel sitting there and the station here said that he has full trucks in Miami just waiting to come down. But yet we have folks sitting out in the street in line at the few stations open. As for price? I can't say - they all took down their prices from the signs. Guess if they are the only ones in town with gas then it doesn't matter how much it is.

I can't add to what has been said except that I'm also praying for you and trusting for a quick and full recovery.

To be precise I wear a 13.5 EEEE - really wide feet and very high instep. Usually end up with 14 sneakers when I can find them and try not to wear dress shoes.. because of how my feet roll outward when I step they are usually painful. The bad thing is that a podiatrist told me years ago to get something I like the look and price of and not expect to wear it for more than 3 months - but it's hard to find that size, especially here in Key West, and the mail orders are usually expensive. But then again, I'm from Kentucky so even at the office I'm barefoot/socks-only most of the time.
