TCH-Sales Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 No mater if you use Internet Explorer, Mozilla or Opera you have to have a home page (or start page). It's the first thing you look at everyday and for some people it's where they get their news, information or just a favorite every day stop. Now what I want to know is what's your default home page set to in your favorite browser, and why? Thumbs Up Quote
borfast Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 "about:blank" because I always want to see different things every time I open my browser But if I had a home page set in my browser it would probably be either TCH's forums "View New Posts" link or slashdot.org Quote
GroovyFish Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 Mine is news.google.com, well, because I am a new hound, it loads quickly and I can do a Google search from that page. Quote
RJSkon Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 I am a CompuServe member, my opening page or Home Page is CompuServe's Main Page, which is a custom version of Internet Explorer. There I can find the latest headlines, current news, the current temperature and the days weather at a glance, all before I have my morning coffee, plus this is where I pick up my mail. As for Internet Explorer 6.0 and Netscape 7, I have the default page in IE set to MSN.com, because I use their search engine quite a bit and for Netscape 7 I have the default page set to rjskon.com, I have it set that way just as a check to see if my site is up and running, or if my host has a problem. I run all the browsers from my Window's Task Bar, so they're all a click away. Richard Quote
!!blue Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 All my current browsers open a local HTML page which then opens a remote window with all my most frequently used links. I have about ten categories and use anchor links to view links under each category (if that makes any sense). The links then open up in the main window. And when I'm away from my computer I do have those pages loaded on my site. Very useful and I recommend everyone create one of their own. Forget bookmark links! Use a remote window! Here's a link to how to create a basic one: Remote Window I'm sure you can make it pretty tho! later, !!blue Quote
shakes Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 i'm with borfast ... open into a blank page and go where i want from there (by typing, not clicking a 'bookmark') Quote
jpickeri Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 My home page is the Hunger Site. An easy click to help the world's hungry. jim Quote
Deverill Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 I use Mozilla Firebird so my homepage has 4 tabs that open when the browser does: Google TCH Family Forums My Web email service (non-TCH) My ISP home page for notices/etc. (Bell South DSL) From there I get pretty much where I want most of the time. I really like Firebird's ability to open multiple tabs and then save that as your homepage. Quote
Anacrusis Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 Google because it's quick loading. I have buttons on my toolbar linking to important sites for quick access to anywhere I need to be. Quote
greatfolios sysop Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 www.google.com/ie quick and a great launchpoint to anywhere! Mr. Bill :Nerd: isn't it funny how none of our start pages are our own websites...! Quote
shakes Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 I use Mozilla Firebird so my homepage has 4 tabs that open when the browser does: what is the difference between mozilla firebird and the normal mozilla browser? i've been trying to figure this out but haven't felt like downloading firebird. borfast Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 Hi shakes. This is a bit offtopic so I won't carry it on but I'll point you to some threads where this topic has been discussed http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...?showtopic=2832 http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...?showtopic=3807 http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...?showtopic=3802 Quote
DarqFlare Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 about:blank for me! I do use favorites in IE, but I use them for a reason... I can move my mouse fast. Hehehe. I may just make some sort of sidebar favorites page. I'm sure if I researched enough Javascript (Since I do indeed have a book), that I could build a neat little script that puts the window into normal mode, resizes it to the max height and width-200px, and builds a links page on the extra width space that can control the main window... [will do this tonight] If I get a good working script built, I'll post it here for you guys to use. This sounds like a neat project, I can't wait to work on it here soon... Quote
Deverill Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 DF, They already have that. Go into IE and click Favorites on the toolbar or Ctrl-I and it shows all your favs in a window on the left side. Didn't want you putting all that effort into something already there! Quote
DarqFlare Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 Never mind... Couldn't get it to do what I wanted it to. `Edit` Yeah. I know. But part of the reason I wanted to do it was to see if I could. Quote
Montty Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 on my dev PC (IE): http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp as this offer me all the necessary stuff on hand to any questions I could have regarding my dev experiments. And on my RT Station (IE): Blank page, with a set of very useful links, on the link bar, to the TCH forum, TCH Help, my cPanel, and a few other forums favourite (Q3D + Grand Marnier and the home page of my 2 web sites etc...) this allow me to choose what I want to browse first depending on mood or urgencies Also on both Machines, I have the Google bar which gives me instant access to all my queries as well as, amongs other goodies, locking most of all those annoying popups... Boojum Posted December 22, 2003 Posted December 22, 2003 Hmm. Leave it to me to break the trend. My default home page is indeed my site homepage, this one, to be precise. That way, I know immediately if my site is down. I must be the proverbial exception that proves the rule. (And by the way, does that particular proverb actually make any sense to anyone?) Quote
boxturt Posted December 22, 2003 Posted December 22, 2003 I have yahoo.com in my primary browser NN 7.1 - it does what I need then I have google.com in IE. Opera and Firebird. Quote
arvind Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 well i have my portal page as my start up so I can check news, my blogshares statistics, movable type stuff like comments and recent entries to my blog and stats for all my blogs all in one place. Quote
davejenbarnes Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 Current default browser Mozilla Firebird (just trying it out, so it's still "new" to me) set to load up "My Ebay" page so I can check the stuff I'm watching. I just switched default browsers this morning from Safari to Mozilla... I have almost all the different browsers loaded up in my applications folder so I can cross-check my site's css-ness, but Netscape and IE just make me cringe. Yuck! The browser issue would make a good poll. But that's prolly already been done. Jennifer Quote

talkingplant Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 I too have my site as my homepage. Not narcissism, I am just always tinkering with it. I didn't know bout the multiple tab opening in firebird trick, I'll have to try that (thanks btw). At work it's the website I take care of (local tv station news site in Cleveland). I have the google toolbar setup in both ie and firebird. Also I keep quick links ready for all the sites I frequent on the links area of the address bar. Quote
