  1. Can't speak about USLec ... use PacBell out in in CA. We did just what you have in mind. Split the T1 between voice and data. There are draw backs of course ... If you need more phone lines you will have to drop some data bandwidth and if you need more data bandwidth you'll have to drop some phone lines or get some hardwired ones. Also they tend to charge you for each change. So plan ahead. Another problem is that if the T1 goes down, you lose not only data but phone. Keep a cell phone handy to call the service rep. Also there is usually a large extra fee for the internet hookup. I suggest using fractional T1 if you don't need the full T1 speeds and getting hardwired phone lines. Also T1 is generally quite expensive compared with ADSL. ADSL speeds can approach T1 speeds depending how far you are from the central office. You will find that ADSL is quite cheap compared to T1, and there are probably many vendors in your area. Hope that helps. Jim
  2. Force the user to enter a randomly generated "key". See http://www.jsnmp.com/cgi-bin/download.pl.
  3. Works fine in SLO, CA on charter cable.
  4. Go to your cpanel page and click on "Installed Perl Modules" ... if the module isn't listed, it isn't installed. If not submit a trouble ticket, and TCH may install it. I say "may", as the someone will review the module first before it will be installed. jim
  5. I assume this means we still can use sendmail in our cgi scripts. Correct? jim
  6. My home page is the Hunger Site. An easy click to help the world's hungry. jim
  7. For years I used WS_FTP. But lately I have been using AceFTP. Cost $29.95. jim
  8. "You can fool some of the spiders some of the time but not all of the spiders all of the time." Collecting email addresses is a business, thus there are those that spend time figuring out ways to bypass email hiding techniques. I use the javascript technique on my pages (see http://www.jsnmp.com/contactus.html) and the associated JavaScript file. Note that the latest scheme (I found this out on a job interview a McAfee) is to simply blast a domain with common user names and take out all of those that bounce. Thus, email names such as support, postmaster, webmaster, hostmaster, sales, joe.blow, jblow, etc. will always get spam. jim
  9. This is a SMTP protocol error that the receiving SMTP server generated because of the contents of a command your SMTP server sent. It probably due to an extremely long line in your mail message. Is is difficult to tell. Which SMTP server are your using? Which mail delivery software are you using? Are there any long lines in your message? From RFC 821 4.5.3. SIZES There are several objects that have required minimum maximum sizes. That is, every implementation must be able to receive objects of at least these sizes, but must not send objects larger than these sizes. **************************************************** * * * TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT POSSIBLE, IMPLEMENTATION * * TECHNIQUES WHICH IMPOSE NO LIMITS ON THE LENGTH * * OF THESE OBJECTS SHOULD BE USED. * * * **************************************************** user The maximum total length of a user name is 64 characters. domain The maximum total length of a domain name or number is 64 characters. path The maximum total length of a reverse-path or forward-path is 256 characters (including the punctuation and element separators). command line The maximum total length of a command line including the command word and the <CRLF> is 512 characters. reply line The maximum total length of a reply line including the reply code and the <CRLF> is 512 characters. text line The maximum total length of a text line including the <CRLF> is 1000 characters (but not counting the leading dot duplicated for transparency). recipients buffer The maximum total number of recipients that must be buffered is 100 recipients. **************************************************** * * * TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT POSSIBLE, IMPLEMENTATION * * TECHNIQUES WHICH IMPOSE NO LIMITS ON THE LENGTH * * OF THESE OBJECTS SHOULD BE USED. * * * **************************************************** Errors due to exceeding these limits may be reported by using the reply codes, for example: 500 Line too long. 501 Path too long 552 Too many recipients. 552 Too much mail data. jim

  11. I am getting my email refused again ... being rejected via spamblock.outblaze.com ... via www.spews.org. Message follows .... This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: jindayi@asianavenue.com SMTP error from remote mailer after RCPT TO:<jindayi@asianavenue.com>: host asianavenue-com.mr.outblaze.com [205.158.62.147]: 554 EMail from mailserver at 63.247.72.186 is refused. See http://spamblock.outblaze.com/63.247.72.186
  12. Forgot to mention what the cgi script does. After the user fills out the form, it sends them an email with the product download instructions. It also sends me an email with the form information they filled in plus the IP address they connected on. jim
  13. You can of course write a form in perl and run it under cgi. Look at my page at jSNMP Enterprise Download. This page was created with perl and is run under cgi. If this is what you want I'll send you my script. Drop me an email. My email address is on our contact page. You will of course have to hack it up to fit your situation. jim
  14. I do have a bit of experience using it with cgi and perl. If you want to go this route drop me a line.
  15. FYI, I requested a perl module not so long ago, and it was installed within minutes of my request.
  16. You could also sumit a ticket and have TCH install the module for you ... saves on your disk space. jim
  17. Thanks for the input. This is an absolutely brand new site. Just got the contracts signed and went live on Friday. Thus the Google rank of 0. Have spent a bit of time on getting backwards links. Have about 20-30 links back to me in the works. Already getting hits from some of them! Working on the search phrases and Meta tags. Like I said it is new. Thanks again. Jim
  18. A good explanation of the worm from Symantec.
  19. There appears to be a new worm flooding the internet. I have gotton about 20 emails so far this evening. Yahoo mail seems to be flooded. All email that I have sent to yahoo accounts (about 4) are being bounced. See Swen" worm jim
  20. Please add my site. It is commercial. 1. URL 2. jSNMP Enterprises 3. jSNMP Enterprises is an experienced and progressive software development company specializing in network management. We offer, along with our Java based SNMP management SDK (jSNMP Enterpriseā„¢), SNMP MIB, SNMP Agent, and Web-based network management design and development services. 4. 21. Oops. Looks like there is already a thread on this subject in the same forum. Just shows you that there is already a plethora of info in the TCH forums. Maybe I should not post after a 16 hour work day! Moderator ... please move this to the pinned discussion. Merged: by Deverill
  22. I decided to create some custom error pages for my site tonight and thought the TCH family might like to see the result. BTW, Cpanel puts them in your www directory naming them 400.shtml, 401.shtml, etc. Thus, you can create them offline and just ftp them over. Try About jSNMP Enterprises instead of About jSNMP Enterprises. The error pages are ... 400 Error 401 Error 403 Error 404 Error 500 Error jim
  23. Solved the problem using cgi Image::Magick. Actually quite easy once I understood how to create a basic image. Only problem I have now is how to delete the temporary image files if users leave the page without using my 'get' or 'cancel' buttons (see www.jsnmp.com/cgi-bin/download.pl ... the generated image is the security code at the bottom of the page). I am looking into the JavaScript possibilites at the moment. May have to resort to periodically running a cron job.
