Multiple Www Domains - One Webhosting Accoutn
TCH-JimE replied to eaino's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
What happened if someone did this using webfowarding supplied by some dot.com companies out there? Would it be possible to pay for an upgrade to allow a second different dot.com to share the same space? Just out of curosity for future thoughts Jim -
You can provent indexing of the main folder. I would suggest you use "userftp" rather then a folder called "ftp". Its good practice never to call a folder by such things as "ftp" or other names which could easily get confused. Jim

I Want Ftp Dirs, Not Under /public_html
TCH-JimE replied to jdmatl's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
What you should be able to do is: I) Create a subdomain, eg. usersftp.**** II) Turn OFF indexing of this subdomain III) Give the User a folder in the subdomain IV) Web protect and turn off indexing for each one of these folders. That should do the trick, they should not be able to navigate higher then the original folder and hence, only see there own folder JIm -
Subdomains are worth there weight in gold. Follow the above advice, and best of all, just play around and see what happens. Jim

Its relatively easy once you have edited the template. I have a banner in the top hand corner which allows users to go back to the main website Jim

Allow User To Update Web Pages W/o Global Password
TCH-JimE replied to twowheels's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
You can add users to the folders so that only thoose users can see them. Someone with a higher level control will not be able to get into them Jim -
Its amazing how late nights suddenley make you see something you missed all day! Glad it works Jim

As far as I know, they only do PHP and not ASP. Jim

I Want Ftp Dirs, Not Under /public_html
TCH-JimE replied to jdmatl's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Intrestingly, you might be able to do this: http://www.cpanel.net/docs/cp/webProtectDi...Directories.htm This allows you password a folder, and then you can add users to them with specific passwords. Also Head Guru states the same thing in this post: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...f=21&t=1303&hl= Jim -

Hi, Ok you have a few problems here. If you have IE and have FTP option switched on, you will always be able to access the ftp directory using the web browser. This can not be stopped as it essientally uses the same technology that any other FTP program uses. Also I dont think you can change the default address as in CPANEL its listed as the "main account" You can do it so you add a folder name to the FTP login and then it will goto the folder each time that is specififed To limit the users, i suggest you password each folder which will at least stop them looking in others folder. Although I think you can still navigate higher up the tree. Jim -
Webmail Using Ssl, But Still Using Port 2096
TCH-JimE replied to jdmatl's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
I know use my mailer of the company so whist I accept it from my mailserver on the web, i send it back out again using the companys one, otherwise my port is blocked too. Give it a try! Jim -
Hi, Let me get this straight: A) You have a template which you downloaded This template works without editing C) Upon editing and displaying on your desktop it works D) The verson uploaded to your website does not work? If this is the case, or you are trying to refresh a copy already on the server then maybe you are putting the file into the wrong area and not the correct folder? I know i have done this many times. Is it possible to have a URL link to the page on your website in question and a link to the where you downloaded the template? Cheers Jim

At the bottom, there is normally something like (in neomail which I use) "Attachment 1" from which you can download it at the bottom Cheers Jim

Hi, I had to try several times with my PHPBB board but some patience and it does get there in the end! For the life of me, i can not remember the admin password you need to use, but you should be able to change it by going to the phpadmin and going through the database. Hmmm, try "admin" for your login and your standard password Without fiddling i can't work it out. Also, what i did was to create a folder called "forum" so i could play around in there without runing my website. BTW the best place to go for PHPBB help is www.phpbb.com where they have a great community. Jim

It would be nice at home, but when you have a gigabit linkup at work, its pales in comparision. My parents are still learning the delicate art of emailing and surfing simple sites on the ADSL connection we have, i think it will be some time before they really start needing a 3mb connection! Nice though! Jim

Bandwidth And Help Desk Problems
TCH-JimE replied to TCH-JimE's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
I would chat but its banned at work, we have enough problems keeping the students from doing it, let alone doing it ourselves. I will email tony! James -
Hi, I have the following problems A) Bandwidth, although AWstats records it, clicking on bandwidth in CPANEL means that only root directory for my dot.com is shown, all my subdomains are at zero bandwitdh which i know is not true! Bill did email me to say that he "pushed" the stats, but nothing appeared :-( Each time i try to access your help desk I get: TotalChoice Hosting: Error Verification Error - Record Missing Password Or Key So it means I can't even log on. All my cookies have been cleaned out otherwise I would raise a ticket on this! Assistance please (although i know you guys do all the best you can do, so whenever you have a few minutes, its not a priorioty!) James

For my site its incredable useful. I have so many topics thats its easier to change them into sub domains. E.g. forum.myname.com Painting.myname.com Models.myname.com links.myname.com Otherwise the structing would he horredous! Jim

I've never come accross yet a firstname.secondname.thirdname.com so i would hazard a guess to say no, although I can't think of a good techincal reason for this other then subdomains all seem to sit on the WWW folder. Therefore, it might be something to do with this Jim
-
I can't confirm this cos my mind is gone a blank, but having 777 means people can cause any file to write in your area of that folder. As long as everything else is patched and you dont allow uploading, it should be fine i think. A guru can tell you more Jim

If your buying another domain, and you want this new domain to be fowarded somewhere else rather then your site on totalchoice hosting, then yes you A) Must by the domain name and pay for the fowarding. I could be wrong, and i would wait for a proper response but this is how I would view it. Some companies like 123-reg.co.uk fowarad for it to free. Jim

Hi, As well as hosting with yourselves, i have a small account elsewhere which my parents use for mail (you didn't offer a good deal on the smallest package) and it too has CPANEL 5.3 release with 117 build. However, it has cPanel X 1.4 theme installed which is a nice graphical way of doing everything. Is this possible with your current setup?? Thanks Jim

Hi, If you record the information you will need to a notepad, you can submit them by yourself and its free :-) Jim
