  1. Well I guess that answers his question... and mine! You rock, BG Thumbs Up And Happy Valentine's Day everyone! :heart  :heart
  2. It's here now, but if you look up the page at his first post in this thread it shows him as 'new to the nieghborhood' with just one post. I've noticed this a few other times when I try to get info about a member...
  3. I've actually gotten lost a few times.... For example, from the main page (totalchoicehosting.com) I clicked on Domain Resgistration and from there on Transfers. That was it... no way back to the homepage to keep on looking around and researching your services except via the Back button. Plus, I think the pages are extremely busy. I'm not saying they are necessarily too busy, but maybe they could be a little more concise. The pages that have the links on the right side and the rest of the page dedicated to text information are better... but the ones that have the links on the right, the column called "Want more from your webhost?" on the left, and text in the middle are just too busy for my taste. They make my brain hurt. One other point... I think average people are used to having the links in a column on the left side of the page. Don't know why... just seems to be. Maybe because that's where Favorites open up in IE. Maybe because so many programs with frames put them there. I don't know. But the other reason for possibly moving links to the left and having info text on the right is the fact (as taught in every basic journalism class) that the eye wants to go to the top right side of a page first. That's where you have to grab them with what you want to say! OK... I lied. There is yet another point I want to make about the home page. Some of the stuff you list over on the left under "Want more from your webhost?" could be attractive come-ons (unlimited email accounts just as an example since it is the first thing listed). Perhaps they should be hotlinks so someone interested could immediately find out more without having to find a related link on the other side of the page to, say, Webhosting Plans. I guess I'm up to three cents now so I'll stop... Good luck, VI
  4. Will do HG... but I don't think it is blocked for any reason.... I think it's just an accident. I'm not on the clock at work. I'm an independent contractor so I'm sure they're not trying to prevent me from 'goofing off." I guess I'll have to get up early and get in there when our tech guy comes in... or maybe I'll just write him a note. I already screwed around with all my settings trying to fix it... I'm sure he'll fix it for me just to get me to leave everything else alone! LOL. Your 2 cents are always appreciated... and always worth much more than 2 cents!!! VI
  5. I'm brave enough to have you tell me... not sure If I'm brave enough to attempt to actually do it.... especially at work. But let me know what's invoved. -VI
  6. Hey... did you just change your avatar? Like maybe just a minute ago??? Or am I having a senior moment? Well yes, something is blocking it. I just wonder why TCH Forums and nothing else? None of my other bookmarks are blocked. And how do I fix it? I'm sure no one in my office did it intentionally... our tech guy comes in really early in the morning, so I don't see him. I'm not a morning person!
  7. For some reason, I can't get to the forums from my work computer. Although this may be a good thing in terms of my productivity at work, it is making me crazy! I can't get here from links in email notifications... I can't get here from search engine links... I can't even get here from the link on my own homepage or from my bookmark that used to work just fine.. All I get is "The Page Can Not Be Displayed." I've messed arouns with all the settings (I'm in IE both at home and at work), and optiions but can't fix it. I've deleted my Temporary Internet Files... changed security settings, etc. I am on a network at work if that matters... Any suggestions? VI
  8. I hope it's not too late to add a suggestion. I made this one earlier today in another discussion titled "Duplicate Pages on Site" and I was only half kidding: It would be nice if there were a forum just for beginners who need help and explanations with a definite NON-TECHNICAL twist to them. Perhaps it could be moderated by someone who speaks English as opposed to computerese. I nominate Big Gorilla!
  9. Way to go!!! I'm sure you'll be a tremendous asset to the forums. Thumbs Up
  10. Thank you Monkey Guru... for the clear and concise answer. Everyone here is so helpful, but quite honestly the answers often go way beyond my abilities. I wouldn't know a script if I fell over one!! I designed my site with a wysiwyg and I thought I was doing pretty well just to get it up and running. May I humbly suggest a new forum: "Websites for Dummies!" There we can post questions and whoever answers will know that, for the most part, we won't understand a word they're saying! Could be entertaining if nothing else. VI
  11. I don't see anything called "/" when I go into FTP, but awstats lists "/" as the page of mine with the most views. As for renaming directories, etc. I am totally lost. So long as the pages are coming up correctly with either one slash or two, I'll probably just leave it alone till I can get some guru to help me get it all sorted out. I went into my site on my husband's computer and navigated through all the pages and everything seems to be working so I guess it doesn't really matter. Does it? I'm planning a full revamp of my site to add shopping cart, order form, and enable visitors to send postcards using my images... I'll get it all cleaned up then.
  12. ThumpAZ... You could just save yourself a bundle and rent a paddleboat at Tempe Town Lake!
  13. They are only listed once in /public_html. And I think all my internal links are ok... one slash only. This is what I see on awstats: When I click on the links from awstats I think I'm taken to the same page unless I somehow uploaded duplicates... I just don't know where that second slash is coming from...
  14. I was just noticing in my awstats that I have duplicates of some pages... for example: ****/particularpage and ****//particularpage (note the double slashes) Did I somehow create this when I uploaded the files? Should I delete them? Could this cause any navigational or other problems? From what I can tell, they are identical... Thanks, VI
  15. Guys, guys, guys... don't you know how easy we are? LINGERIE. That's it... just lingerie... maybe with a note that says something to the effect of 'she puts it on and you take it off'... every woman wants to feel sexy... especially on Valentine's Day. Oh, but don't hold back... it has to be nice and, preferably, expensive. And not slutty. Lace works. VI
  16. "The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity." -- Ellen Parr Which brings us back to Alice in Wonderland.... curiouser and curiouser..
  17. That's great! I have a bunch of quotes about stupidity... just didn't want to include them in that first post praising TCH and their great attitude. Here are a few I've collected: The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits. (I think that's just a paraphrase of yours). The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard. Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups. - John Kenneth Galbraith It is a luxury to be understood. - Ralph Waldo Emerson The average woman would rather have beauty than brains, because the average man can see better than he can think. ~Unknown I am returning this otherwise good typing paper to you because someone has printed gibberish all over it and put your name at the top. ~English Professor, Ohio University I can't believe that out of 10,000 I AM A SPAMMER, you were the quickest. ~Steven Pearl Discourse on virtue and they pass by in droves. Whistle and dance the shimmy, and you've got an audience. --Diogenes And my personal favorite: I only drink to make other people seem interesting. - George Jean Nathan I love collecting quotes... when I come across ones that I like online, I just copy and paste them into a document. Every once in a while I read through it for motivation or inspiration. What was the article you were reading??? VI
  18. When I go to a website, I like to be able to find what i'm looking for quickly and easily. I find site maps to be really helpful (when I'm navigating large sites) and would have voted for that if it was an option.
  19. I had a similair problem... I'll try to help if you don't mind a very non-technical response. I'm not a computer geek or anything... but I can tell you what I discovered when I started using Horde. Go into your cPanel under E-Mail and click on Manage Accounts. I found that TCH had set up a main account for me and then I added my regular email account (myname@****). When I went into Horde, it only wanted to check the main account. You have to enter your username and password for the other account if you want to check it. In my case the username was myname+****. Then when I entered my password for that email account, Horde found my complete inbox. Hope this helps.
  20. That's great!
  21. Hooray for Darwin!
  22. Yes... it's from Alice in Wonderland, although I'm not positive which character. Lewis Carroll wrote Alice In Wonderland.
  23. Well I'm content with the fact that the little jpegs I put up on my site would look like sh-- enlarged and with the fact that by using hotlink protection, no one can link to them and put them on their own site and take credit for them. I'd love to display them bigger to give people a sense of their detail and impact, but that's the trade-off. As you say... sad, but true.
  24. Your explanation sounds totally plausible.... thank you. I'm sure you're right because (and I neglected to mention this before) I had opened an email like that online using Horde from my office, and then again at home using OE and I got the blank boxes both times. So it must have been what you called an 'external image.' I haven't come across any setting that would allow me to turn off the viewing of external images. Man, if that would really allow me to prevent some advertising and pop-ups it would be a dream come true! Bad Microsoft!
