  1. I like it too. But... What if the glyphs came "dripping" out of the text??? Just an idea cause it's still kind of hard to read.... The drip look might put the text above the glyphs for the most part... I don't know, Just thinking out loud here. Hey... anybody notice that all our online/offline graphics are missing?
  2. I'd go with Green on Black for the Matrix effect and put the banner on every page for continuity (then it will 'go' with the rest of your site). I'd also move the text so that it's below or alongside the glyphs... do a whole different layout that incorporates both the glyphs and the text, but not with the glyphs overlaying the text. It's hard to read now, even in white-on-gray. Maybe put your text in the top-left corner (like a logo) and have the glyphs start just to the right and continue along the top of the page? If you use a computer-ish font for the text ("/Assorted Geekery") it will tie in better with the matrix effect of the glyphs and make a nice logo/banner. Just MHO... VI
  3. Thanks Lisa! I'll try that with next update. Untill then, and for those who use the cPanel version of Hotlink Protection, can anyone address the questions I raised in the original post?
  4. There have been several threads lately about hotlink protection and disappearing graphics. TCH-Don was very helpful in identifying the problem (hotlink protection) and noting that disabling it for a day seems to fix it. But, since my site is ALL graphics and having them visible is of paramount importance, I have questions: 1. How often does this problem occur? Have other forum members encountered this on a regular basis? 2. How does one know if the problem is occurring since generally I can see cached copies that look fine and I only find out if someone tells me they went to my site and couldn't see the images. 3. How can I tell how long the site was 'compromised' for... i.e. when it stopped working. 3. Is there any way to monitor a site to make sure the images are available? 4. Is there something else to use besides the hotlink protection offered by cPanel to provide the same kind of protection? 5. Would anyone recommend scheduling a weekly (or whatever) disabling of hotlink protection to guard against it suddenly deciding not to work anymore? 6. Does it just stay messed up untill you disable the protection or does it come back as suddenly as it disappeared? I'm trying to determine if it's worth having and if I should re-enable it... VI
  5. Like this?
  6. How come some replies that have quotes identify the quotee (is that a word... I think I just made it up!) and the date and time of the original post that is being quoted, and some don't? I can't ever make it do that when I'm quoting?
  7. Thanks, I'll do that. I'm almost afraid to enable it again since Don said it happens periodically. This can be very embarrassing. On Monday I emailed links to my site to several prospective commercial clients. It had taken me months to get referred to the 'right' people in these companies and I reallly wanted to make a good impression and secure an interview when I get to NY in May. I just can't imagine what they thought when they got to the site. How very unprofessional! How tacky! I wonder, too, how long this was going on.... my stats indicate that visit time has been down all month. Does this problem persist till fixed? If so that's a big problem, since the site owner sees cached pages and doesn't even know there's a problem. Any way to monitor whether or not hotlinking has 'stopped working' as Don termed it? Well I'm hoping to do a complete site redesign soon.... hopefully it will incorporate some other type of image protection and I won't need the hotlink protection. One can only hope.... VI
  8. Fixed! Thanks !!Blue. I think that's the only one.
  9. Thanks, everyone, for checking. And for the nice comments. Bellringer, glad you like them. I get more hits on that Paris page than any other... I guess you're not alone. I'm kind of partial to the NY images myself.... except when I'm in a Maui mood. And, I can't get enough of the autumn colors (I don't see them much living in the desert). Well.... I guess variety really is the spice of life! Thanks again to all... VI
  10. Still wondering if the images are visible? Anyone? http://www.virtualconceptions.com
  11. Just one other thought... if you don't have or don't want to get Adobe Professional, you can also go online to do it. I believe the first five files (any size, if I'm not mistaken) are free. https://createpdf.adobe.com/index.pl/904338...579?BP=IE&v=AHP VI
  12. Thanks Don. I just disabled it. Can't really tell if that did anything... since I was able to see the images all the time. Did you happen to look at the site? Were you able to see them? I'm not sure I understand... if I have hotlinking enabled, then I can see cached images but other people may not see anything??? How long should I leave it disabled? VI
  13. So this morning I'm in a meeting with a publisher and I wanted him to look at something on my site. When he pulled it up he couldn't see any images at all. Just boxes with red x's in them wherever an image should have been. Don't know what browser he uses (it wasn't an appropriate time to question him and spend time trying to fix it). As soon as I got home I checked it on my computer and it looked fine. Knowing that sometimes the images could be displaying from my hard drive and not from the internet, I ran upstairs and checked it on my husband's computer. Still looked fine. Both IE, by the way. So I have two requests: first, does anyone know what the problem could be on my publisher's computer and what I should tell him to do? I thought that maybe he's got something set to text only, or maybe it's a security setting? Second, could you all take a look at my site (virtualconceptions.com) and let me know if the images are there? He was only at two pages, the index page and the Virtual Arizona image gallery. Thanks all... VI PS: if the meeting (which otherwise went very well) pans out the way I hope, you can look for my calendars and books coming soon!!!
  14. Also, from that same page, it you click on the shopping cart link, you get the shopping cart info page, BUT... the heading of that page says Total Choice - Search Engines.
  15. on this page: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/help/ Something weird is happening with the links on the left... on my monitor, anyway. It appears that any links which are longer than one line are getting "squished." Like that technical word??? Anyway, the second line of the link is only half showing. This is the case with the third link down (Total Choice Something or other) the 17th down (Third Party Something or Other) and the bottom link (Web Hosting Something or Other). Sorry I couldn't be more specific.... they're just squished.
  16. A very tiny little thing: On the left side of the server stats pages, under the heading "Real Time Server Stats" the "L" appears to be in bold face and there is possibly an unnecessary space after it... Edit: Just noticed this appears on all the tchstatus.com pages
  17. The site is much improved. It seems much better organized and easier to navigate. And much more reflective of the talent and professionalism of the company. I noticed a broken link: About Us > Hosting Family > Friends. Excellent job! Congratulations! It is apparent that so much thought and work went into this redesign. VI
  18. Hi.... hope your problem is solved via the help desk. If so, could you please let us all know what the problem was and how it was corrected. Sounds like something that could happen to us all. Thanks, VI
  19. zro, check out This Thread. TCH -Rob suggested the problem was an ISP Cacheing Server.... sounds like that could be your problem as well. VI
  20. Quoting HG in "Our Gift to You" thread: I couldn't make it work either until I copied HG...
  21. There is one thing you could try: In the Horde Options under "New Mail" you can set it to refresh every minute. This would cause activity that will keep you from timing out. I have mine set to refresh every five minutes and I almost NEVER have any problems.
  22. I'm on Horde all day at work (I log on in the morning and just keep it open) and very rarely get timed out... I get notified of new mail throughout the day, sometimes even after an hour or more of inactivity. Very rarely I'll not see any new mail for a while and click refresh and be prompted to log back in. I haven't lost a composed email in a very long time. Unfortunately I can't say why... I don't think I have anything special in my options. But I think it's safe to say that the problem is not with TCH.... otherwise we'd all be having the same problem. And believe me, if I got timed out after just a few minutes I'd know it and I'd be the first one complaining. When I get back to my office (I'm at lunch now and checking in because I can't access the forum at work) I'll look at all my settings and I'll let you know tonight if I see anything that looks like something you could do to fix your problem... VI
  23. From one who doesn't to all who do.... I wish you a happy and meaningful Easter. And a happy and meaningful Passover to all my fellow tribesmen as well. Best wishes, VI
  24. Some people were posting about a similair problem with Horde last week. Mmyette (I think that was the name) solved the problem by not using the secure login. Don't know if that applies to squirrelmail or not, but the topic can be found at:Problems with Horde.
  25. When you log onto Horde, click "mail" at the bottom of the screen. Then click "options" at the top of that screen. Then on the next screen you'll see "filters." Then click on "edit your filter rules."
