I think it might be more important to people like myself (artists) who use it to protect original artwork that is our livelihood (or so we hope!). I would be horrified to see my work displayed on another site as someone else's... and even more enraged if they were stealing my bandwidth to do it.

The emails are from people I know... and I think Thomas is right about them being in HTML. They do look like web pages that have missing graphics. But it's odd because I do not have the "Read all messages in plain text" option checked in Outlook Express, so I should be able to see them. Shouldn't I???
-
A lot of times I get emails with graphics missing... I see the boxes outlining where the graphic is supposed to be, and the red x, but not the graphic that was inserted into the email by the sender. I thought this had something to do with TCH filtering since I never noticed it before I came over here in May, but in reading other threads (like "what would you like to see"), I realize that TCH does not filter for viruses or anything. So how come sometimes the graphics are missing? Is it an Outlook setting that I should/should not change? Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I assumed the graphics get deleted as a security measure, so here I am. VI

Alan, My deepest sympathies to you and your family on your loss. I'm sure you have many wonderful memories of your grandfather you can be thankful for... they will always be a comfort to you. Thank you for the link... and thanks also to Thomas. I don't have a links page on my site, but if I add one, I'll be sure to link back to both of you. Randy (Virtual Imager)

That's great! 85% of my hits are IE users... Thanks, I think I have a feel for it now. VI

Yes... thank you very much! Question: would you say that the estimate is reliable? Do you think it errs high or low? Rock Sign VI

Does anyone know how awstats estimates the number of visitors who have bookmarked your site?

I'm always up to get linked! http://www.virtualconceptions.com Sorry to hear about your grampa... my thoughts are with you and your family today. VI

Thanks for the reply, neighbor.... Whatever it was, it started working again about an hour after I first posted and all seems to be well now. VI

Strange.... I have an internet connection, I can receive email, but when I try to send I get the dreaded gray box telling me my smtp server (smtp.west.cox.net) is not responding. Then I get this from Outlook Express: and then this: Any idea what's going on? Why, if it's not responding, can I receive but not send? Is the problem on my (our) end or is it just Cox that's messed up? Mad!!! VI

How Accurate Is The Awstats Linking From External?
Virtual Imager replied to danmarx's topic in Open Discussion
We had this discussion several weeks ago: "I AM A SPAMMER Sites Hiding Behind Blogs" http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...?showtopic=5687 There are some good links given in that discussion to other boards and sites that also deal with the problem. I probably had a dozen I AM A SPAMMER referrers in my stats at that time. The next month (December) I had none. I thought TCH did something to block them, but apparently not... I guess I'm just lucky that they disappeared on their own. -
Thanks Lianna... and everyone. Rock Sign Everytime I do something 'permanent' to my computer that then needs fixing, I have to call in the husband. And having your husband fix your computer is worse than having your father teach you to drive! Not to mention that having to admit I screwed up is downright awful!!! Downloading bad stuff and messing with the system settings are grounds for divorce (almost) around here... so you all have performed a real act of kindness!
-
That's clear... as mud! I'm hopeless. So I think you're saying that I can't change the restore point, but I can create a new one at another time and I assume that will override the old one? Is it the date that controls? So if I want to restore, it will choose the most recent restore point? Is it like a back-up? But for the system rather than the data?
-
These things really scare me.... I went into system tools to create my restore point and once again I see a warning: "This restore point cannot be changed after it is created." So what does this mean? If I set the restore point to today and all is well for a while and then I want to download something in a few months and create a new restore point as of that date, will I be able to do it? Common sense tells me yes, but then why the warning? I am a tax accountant (in my real life job) and I have learned from studying tax law that common sense doesn't always apply! Sorry if this is a stupid question or if I seem overly paranoid, but screwing up my computer (again) is hazardous to my health....
-
Hey Lianna... you never came back. This update didn't crash your computer or anything, did it? Are you still out there?
-
thanks y'all. I'll definitely try to set up a restore point before I download any updates. Think I'll wait till tomorrow though... I'm fried tonight! I actually tore myself away from my computer and got out and had some fun... can you believe it??????
-
How do you do that?
-
Now that's dedication!!! Above and beyond the call of duty! You TCH people are too good to us... Be careful out there Lianna! Rock Sign

Automatic Updates just alerted me. This new update 'would prevent an attacker from executing code on my Windows-based computer' or something to that effect. I generally always download the updates, but this time they specifically warned that once downloaded, the update could not be removed. So what if it does something screwy to my computer (which already has some quirks about entering standby and shutting down)? They make it sound like I have to make a major commitment to this update and I'm not sure I'm ready for commitment!!! Any thoughts?

What's Shop Talk? What happened to Open Discussions? Are we still allowed to talk about beef and global warming? Or just the weather? No, seriously... why the name change? There must be some reason... I'm just curious about what prompted it...

Phoenix is back to normal.... 76 degrees right now. Nice for the runners (Rock & Roll Marathon going on today). Damn... I just bought new boots and tons of cashmere on sale! Our ten minute boot and cashmere season is over! guess I'll have to go to NY to visit my kids.... Hey Lianna... do you have any photos of those beautiful Missouri ice storms? I'd love to play with them and see what kind of images I can come up with....
