  1. Sometimes it's not just size that runs them off... I once had a guy come at me with a tire irorn when I accidentally cut him off on the Long Island Expressway. It was a dark night. He followed me off my exit and forced me over to the side of the road. There was steam coming off his body, he was so mad. But when he got to my car door and saw that I was "just" a 5'4" I AM A SPAMMER (100 pounds) girl, he (thankfully) turned around and walked away. Of course that was a long time ago and that kind of 'chivalry' is probably dead now. .. And though I'm still not big, I haven't seen 100 pounds in a while either. So now I pack too. Not in a shoulder holster though... in a shoulder purse. We better be quiet, Rob. People are liable to think that Phoenix is still the Wild West. Oh yeah... it is. Maybe I'll run into you at Shooter's World sometime. Just don't call me Ma'am...
  2. So, Boojum, who do you like in the Democratic primary? (Sorry Lianna... we seem to have gotten off topic! It's still cold here in Arizona though...)
  3. Hey Boojum... cool site. You're preaching to the choir here. But maybe we can get a few others to take a peek. I just took a quick look, but will explore it more fully tonight. Also looking forward to the completion of some of the pages you have planned. Will you have a page re over-population? Personally I think that's the worst problem facing the planet and the root of most other problems. What's Tagalog???
  4. Very curious: Doesn't AwStats generally update early each morning? I just checked and my stats didn't update this morning... or this afternoon: This is unusual, isn't it?
  5. Don't be disappointed... the effects are devastating. This article from The National Resource Defense Council (http://www.nrdc.org/globalwarming/fcons.asp) highlights some of the consequences and how they are already affecting us: The answer? Also from NRDC (http://www.nrdc.org/globalwarming/action.asp): That's my virtual 2 cents (didn't keyboards used to have a cents sign???) from my virtual soapbox for today... sorry for such a long post... some things really are important.
  6. But have you driven a Ford lately? Yuck! Hey Rob... if you want to see snow, come on over to my house.... there should be some on the Superstitions tomorrow. I've been trippin' on that whole ice-storm-in-the-desert concept... can you imagine an ice-encrusted Saguaro? As for summers... they ARE brutal. I've been here since '75. I do manage to get away every summer for a few weeks though. You have to. Especially when the hundred degree plus heat lasts through the end of October like it did this year. Were you here the day it hit 122 and they had to close the airport? That was a first for me! I think it was within the last 14 years, but it may have been longer ago than that. Seems the specs for the planes only go up to 120 degrees so nobody knew if they could take off in that heat. Scary, huh?
  7. Kevin... Yes... I lived in Columbia from '72 to '75. My husband was getting his PhD at the university there.... Mizzoo-RAH! Tigers! I had a short-lived job teaching pre-school but got fired when I told the owner's child that she had to listen to me just like the other kids. Imagine that??? So I ended up cocktail waitressing at the Tiger Club out on Loop Something-or-other. Did you know it? Ugh! Not exactly the place one works to put one's husband through school. We were starving! It was a rough three years. But I did like those ice storms... turned the whole city into an amazing ice sculpture. Too bad I hadn't found my creative outlet back then... I'd have some amazing images if I had only taken some photos. It's supposed to go down into the mid-twenties here tonight (I live in Paradise Valley... a little town between Scottsdale and Phoenix, AZ)... cold enough for an ice storm, but it's probably not going to happen.
  8. Hi Lianna... I lived in Missouri for a couple of years back in the 70's. I remember calling the city (Columbia) one January 4th to complain that the snow was piling up and to ask if they were going to plow the streets. I was told that they didn't have any plows because "It doesn't snow here." I think Missouri considers itself a Southern State (didn't they fight on the side of the Confederates in the Civil War???). I will say, however, that when I mentioned that I was 9 months pregnant and concerned about getting to the hospital, they were very nice and even offered to send someone to get me. It turned out that I didn't have to go till the next day and it wasn't a problem (my son turns 30 tomorrow and I'm freaking out, but that's another issue). Bringing the baby home a few days later (yes, in the olden days we stayed in the hospital for days and days) was a huge problem though. We got stuck in very deep snow and the baby and I ended up in some nice stranger's house while the stranger and my husband dug the car out). Missouri Snow and I don't mix... but I do the miss the ice storms. They were the most beautiful things in nature there. I live in Arizona now... we too celebrated the New Year with a barbecue, but on New Year's Day. And now today we have freeze alerts for this afternoon and evening. Don't know what's going on. It's the desert for heaven's sake... and it should act like it by being sunny and hot!
  9. IMHO: Best Chic Flick: Cold Mountain. An hour and a half of Jude Law wasn't enough! Mmmmm, yum. Best Mug Shot: Saddam Hussein getting checked for lice! Worst Casting in a movie: Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai. Should have been Russel Crowe. Good movie though. Best casting in a movie: Sean Penn in Mystic River. And Renee Zelwegger in Cold Mountain. Best move for me: TCH IT WAS A REALLY GOOD YEAR, WASN'T IT? Hope 2004 is a good one for everyone...
  10. I'm still getting multiple email notifications about each post to Open Discussions... and still most of the links (two out of three this morning) take me to an error page. the links are exactly the same except for the "ShowTopic=" numbers, which are consecutive. Strange
  11. Me too. I've been getting three notifications of the same post. And often the links don't take me to the post... or at least two of the three don't. But I only got one notification of this string so apparently TCH has it under control... as usual! Rock Sign
  12. Last month many of us were seeing unwanted activity on our sites when we checked our AwStats under "Connect to Site From...links from an external page." Seems sites like Jennifer's Blog, BongoHome and other unsavory characters were linking to us. Not being very savvy in these matters, I sat and worried, checked some message boards that were mentioned on this forum and worried some more, and then did nothing because I didn't know what to do. This month (so far) I see no such links. Did TCH block them or otherwise handle this problem? If so, thank you!
  13. Not me... I've gone in from the link in the email notification and also from my bookmark using IE...

  15. And a special thanks to all the troops who will be spending this Thanksgiving far from home.
  16. Thanks Jim. I followed the directions for uninstalling that I found at hotbar's helpdesk (http://hotbar.com/helpdesk/faq/faq.asp). It didn't seem difficult to remove. Are you saying that it's still on my machine doing it's spy stuff? Should I do something more? Bad hotbar! Bad! Bad! And bad me for installing it... I feel like I've been taken. Thanks for the heads up.... Rock Sign
  17. I do.... but I added hotbar to my Outlook. I like the backgrounds, emoticons, graphics, etc... I just don't like the promo it adds to my outgoing mail. I guess I'll have to upgrade to the Premium service to get rid of them.
  18. Is there a way to remove or block those pesky promotional signatures that appear at the end of emails when you use certin free web-based services like hotmail or yahoo?
  19. Many of us are pretty new to this codewriting stuff.... so please forgive what is probably a simplistic question... You guys are so great and generous to suggest and share helpful code, but I'm not exactly sure what to do with it! Do I simply copy and paste it into the html anywhere on the site? Do I need it everywhere I have a mailto link or is once (say on the index page) enough? Is it a universal command or specific to a single link? I'd love to be able to use some of the codes I've seen on this board, but... honestly I'm a bit afraid of messing up my whole site. I'm a wysiwyg kind of gal and if I can't see it, I tend to run away from it. But this spam thing would be great to have so if someone can tell me how to use it, I'll stop running and give it a try...
  20. Way to go! Thumbs Up
  21. Just did a little navigating around your site. I wish you lots of good luck with your projects. You have a lot of talent, creativity and energy. I predict you'll go far. Welcome to the USA... we're glad you're here. Regards, Randy
  22. Thanks for the link. I found a post that addressed the problem directly. Thought I might share it:
  23. Thanks for the tip... I've often wondered about that. Just turned the preview pane off and I feel free and empowered!!! Like I found the 'mute' button on the remote... Even without having to worry about a virus, it's nice to be able to delete something without having to see it on my screen. Some of this stuff really goes beyond the pale. I'm all for free speech, but shouldn't it stop at my front door? Do I really have to be bombarded with unsolicited phone calls and emails in my own home? And lately there's something worse happening on my computer.... I've been discovered by "messenger service." These nasty commercial message boxes have recently started popping up on my screen. They say "Messenger Service" in the box header and look like a typical windows dialogue box, but they're not. They're spam. I had never seen them before a couple of months ago. Don't know if I received an update to something (Windows, IE, Outlook Express, Netscape, NAV?) that is now letting them through or if I did something to my settings somewhere. It happens regardless of what programs I have open and even when my machine goes on standby. Perhaps because I get my internet service over cable and I'm always connected? If anyone knows how these are getting in and how I can stop them, please, please, please let me know. I'll be your best friend! They are even more intrusive than spam email... they're really in your face. I just got another one... Bobbie Jo wants me to go to her website. And if I want my own message to "reach millions of people directly" I can do it too by going to geocities/webservices or somethinglikethat. HELP! Make it stop! They just keep hitting my screen like drops of water in a chinese water torture chamber.
  24. So you're saying that the virus doesn't have to be on my machine in order to spoof my email address in the header? That's a relief... I think. But it appears that what's being sent is not something I want going out using my name. Is there some way to stop it or prevent it from happening in the future?
  25. So I received an email saying that something I sent (I didn't send it and it's not in my sent mail) was quarantined by NAV when it was received by someone I never heard of who is not in my address book. Here's the email I received: Do I have a problem here?
