  1. Can you hear me now?
  2. You dip pizza in garlic butter? You are very strange, Beth!
  3. It's gotten so bad that I don't even wait for email notification anymore... I just hit the refresh button to see what's new! I need help! Or at least a life!
  4. Hi Bill... Welcome to the group. You've admitted you have a problem. Only 11 more steps to go! It won't be easy... it will get worse before it gets better. My husband had to let me hit bottom before he would agree to help me. I haven't had the nerve to tell him that I slipped off the wagon and am back here on the forums. He may divorce me if he finds out. Please help me! Perhaps we could help each other. Or maybe we could find a sponsor... someone to call in the dead of night when we feel ourselves slipping... someone always available. Oh, I know! Head Guru. He's always online. We could call him!

  6. My biggest pet peeve about service is having to pay extra for it! I HATE the whole concept of tipping (not that I'm a bad tipper... I happen to always tip very well, but I just hate the whole idea). I think if an establishment wants to attract and keep customers by offering good service, they should train their people to give good service and pay them a living wage. The price of their product (meal, room, whatever) should include service, even if it has to be higher than what they charge currently. I'm a tax accountant by day and I give my clients excellent service. I wouldn't think of accepting a tip. I give good service because I want my clients' repeat business and because I take pride in my work. When I rent a hotel room I expect it to be cleaned... why should I have to pay extra for that? And when I order a meal in a restaurant, I expect it to be brought out of the kitchen and to my table. If a restaurant wants to increase sales, the servers should be instructed to return to the table and see if anyone wants or needs another drink or anything else to eat. It is in the retaurant's best interest to provide this service. If I have to hunt down my server, you can bet I'm not going to stick around and order dessert. The other thing that really burns me, being a tax accountant, is that I and most people I know, work very hard for my income and have to pay taxes on every penny earned. Most service employees don't. Some by choice. Some because they don't understand that not all their tips are included in their W-2 income. If service people were simply paid higher wages by their employers and not paid tips, all their income would be reported on W-2's which would result in a huge revenue boom for the country and perhaps, lower taxes, for all the rest of us. Thanks, I needed that!
  7. I like the ones that are kind of casual and personal, like you hand-wrote them. I found a bunch just last night on this site: http://www.1001freefonts.com/index.htm. I like ACME Secret Agent, Aenigma Scrawl, and Attract More Women. Can you tell I didn't get past the A's. Others that work for me, from other sites (don't ask me where) are Notepad, and Mistral. But like Jikrantz said, they have to be appropriate for the project. I did a wedding program once and used Florentine (I think) for that and it was beautiful. I think the most important thing about a font is that it should be easy to read. And I absolutely hate all those wingding symbol thingies.....
  8. I am completely convinced that Windows not only has feelings, but, if its feelings get hurt, it is quite capable of plotting and carrying out revenge tactics!
  9. Yes... so I'm learning. That became apparent when I finally found "font installation" and realized I could select a font from any location. One of the sites offering free fonts even suggested using a Temp folder instead of the Fonts folder... said Windows likes it better that way. Do you think Windows really has feelings????
  10. A Butterfly...
  11. Well, I solved my own problem. I'll say how just in case anyone else might have a similair dillemna (although I'm sure most, if not all, of you are far more savvy than I and wouldn't be in this situation). It seems that downloading fonts to c/windows/fonts is not enough. You have to then install them by going to start > controlpanel > fonts and clicking on file> install new font and then selecting the font to be installed. Once you do this, the font will appear in the drop-down list in Word, Outlook Express and wherever else there are font choices. Live and learn!
  12. Well if you're not worried then I'm not worried! It's good to have someone to tell me when to worry. Rock Sign
  13. Right, Bruce. I know. But my question concerns the 302 (Redirect) Error Code. I don't have any redirects on my site, but I'm getting a huge amount of these error codes according to my awStats. I can't ascertain if people are actually getting these error codes since I've never gotten one and no one I've ever sent to my site has come back and told me about any. And if anyone IS getting an error, why?
  14. Well actually, it was empty a second ago... now it says:
  15. Error Log is empty....
  16. Kind of reminds me of Alvin and The Chipmunks, but they were much cuter! I guess i'm dating myself....
  17. OK.... who stole them? I feel really stupid asking this.... Here's the deal: I have a whole bunch of fonts in C/Windows/Fonts. If I open one of them in ACDSee or some other viewer, I can see them. Then, if I open Word 2000, that particular font appears in the drop-down menu and I can select it and compose a document using that font. The next time I open Word, however, the font is no longer on the drop-down menu and the document I created is no longer formatted with that font, but is in Times New Roman. What's going on? How do I embed the font so it is always a choice in Word and so that my document remains formatted in that font? It's like I do all this work and save my document, but it ends up somewhere in the twilight zone and a different document takes its place. I can almost hear the music.... and the voice of Rod Serling!
  18. That's just bizarre! Now c'mon.... doesn't it make you want to run out and get one of those subs???? Ewwwwwwww.
  19. What does this mean when found on cPanel under Error Codes: I know what the numbers refer to, but what kind of error is this and why are 98.5% of my hits getting it? Or are they? I haven't had anyone complain.... Is it an invisible error?
  20. Jikrantz, You'll only get one notification per board visit, so if you read a 'reply' in the notification email and then don't click the link to visit the board again, you won't get another notification. I was having the same thing happen, then I'd go to the board and there'd be all kinds of new posts that I hadn't been notified of. Finally figured it out when I read the email notification more carefully. VI
  21. Anyone out there using Adobe InDesign? I'm starting a new and exciting project... (self)publishing a book! It's going to be a cookbook/travelogue/artbook... my chef friend is doing most of the writing and I will be contributing images, graphics, and illustrations (and NO, they won't be boring or ugly pictures of food on a plate!). I'm told that InDesign is the best software available for what I need to do (I have to actually do all the page layouts and inside and outside covers and give them to the printer as camera ready pdf files). I downloaded a trial version, good for thirty days... but I haven't opened it yet! I don't want the thirty days to start running until I can actually begin work... maybe this weekend. I was wondering if anyone else has used this program. If so, can you tell me: 1. Is there a tutorial that comes with the trial version? How good is it? 2. Do you know of any good sites with tutorials (preferably free) on them? I've learned so much about Photoshop from various sites, but InDesign is so new and I haven't stumbled across any in my searches that were really helpful for a total novice. My goal is to only have to learn to use the parts that I need, but I'm not sure what those are. There's so much in that program that wouldn't apply to me and it's a bit intimidating. I'm really looking for a tutorial that would be limited to page layout... really striking page layout! We'll probably want some sidebars, graphic borders, text wrapping around images, hint boxes, and I'd really like to sometimes have images span across two pages. I've actually done some sample pages in Word that aren't too bad, but they don't come easy. I had to really struggle (one border of little garlic heads took me hours!) to get every effect and feature I could, and some things, like the image spanning across two pages seem impossible to achieve. 3. How big is the learning curve. I've never even used Quark... I've done brochures and stuff in Word and WordPerfect and that's the extent of my page making experience. And I've only done my webpages with wysiwyg programs... am I in deep doo-doo here? I'm sure that, like with Photoshop, I'll do most of my learning by doing (and I'm not afraid of doing that), but if anyone has any suggestions or shortcuts that could help me get started, I'd really appreciate it. And please, keep them simple! Thanks, all. You really are a great bunch of people! VI
  22. Hey Steve... that little green creature carrying the sign with all my information is SCARY! Some of the others are cute, but... Actually the whole concept is scary if you ask me. I guess that's the point, eh? Only time will tell what? Or do I not want to know?
  23. When did you set up your account? Perhaps your domain hasn't propagated throughout all of cyberspace yet...
