The three leading packages, to my knowledge, are Drupal, Wordpress, and Textpattern. Of those, my favorite is textpattern by a large margin. It's a beautiful, simple and elegant system - yet very customizable and extremely fast. MT does have a free version, depends how many authors/weblogs you need or something - it's all very convoluted. I loved Textpattern though. =) Great community too.

This is known as referrer spamming. There is an article and several links from there about fixing it. There are several posts on these forums too. It's basically a nasty way to up pagerank since many people show these referrers publically.... those links above show some methods of fixing it, and googling for referrer spamming will find much more information. =)

Ths is probably taken care of - but the setup that is being discussed is for berkeleyDB which is highlyu unstable and prone to corruption - hopefully in IM you'll get it going with the mysql set up which is far more robust. =)

*takes a deep breath* Well, I believe that I've caught up on the additions. If I have missed one please go find the original request and reply to it so that it goes to the top of the forum. Happy 4th to all!

Just put n/a for the password, it'll let you submit it.

You do not need a .pl extension or even to install into the cgi-bin, you can install the cgi files anywhere. I think that either shebang w ill work (the first line of the .cgi script that says where perl is) and the rest is answered. =)

Greetings everyone, Just so noone thinks that I'm disappearing, I just wanted to update you that I am travelling from California to NY this evening and have had a rather rough week and a sudden thing cropped up. I will be updating the pages/catching up on this forum over the next few days and hope to be totally caught up shortly. When I believe I have I will again post to this to make sure I didn't miss anyone. Thank you all for your patience, I will have it all done shortly, I promise. =)

If you have some method of dumping the database - either phpmyadmin, command line or some other system, then you can just import it here using phpmyadmin. If it is very large you could also ftp the export file to your server then submit a ticket and ask them to import it locally so that there are no timeouts. If you do that you'd need to include the name of the file, the directory, and the name of the database to be imported to - and have setup the database here (via cpanel). I've done this a few times successfully, although I did my own imports as my databases were all under 6meg. does that help?

I use transmit and adore it, but I run on OSX and not sure it would run on classic.

Ok, no worries then, Thomas. Just post when you're ready and I'll add it. =)

I just do the technical wrangling, not the policies. Did you mean you want a link to the join page, or the actual ring code, though? Then I can find out. =)

It's my pleasure. I think I've caught up, too.... =)

Is that different than the 1click phpbb install available via cpanel? If not that may be an option for you.
