For future reference for transferring phpBB from a restored backup (on another host): Problem #1: While the database restore just beautifully, the db user was not defined. Steps: 1) Go to cpanel, Manage MySQL, Add user named xmb# where # is the number that matches the xmb database. Example, if I restore lstover_xmb1, then I must create a user called: xmb1 with a password. The user xmb1 name will automatically be modified to username_xmb1 (such that the result in the example would be a user named: lstover_xmb1). 2) Assign that user to the database. Problem #2: Because the chances are your hosting account username on old host was different (and password) than on TCH, you must alter the phpbb config file with the new db name, username and pass. Steps: 1) Open File Manager and navigate to the forum directory 2) Single click on the file called config.php and click Edit on the right 3) Change the following in red: $dbname = 'newusername_xmb#'; $dbuser = 'newusername_xmb#'; $dbpasswd = 'newpassword'; Lianna

This is really great information! Thank you for sharing it with us. When conducting analysis, do you have a few good guidelines for us? You mention several measurable variables and I was just wondering, from a pro's point of view, what would be a good (like top 10) example? .... Not trying to put you out of business here, so if it's a trade secret, by all means protect it! More than anything, I think it would be helpful if we could see an example of a site that ranks high and know what they did to get it there. Any insight you have is very appreciated! Lianna

Who are you trying to register the domain with? Lianna

Awstats skiphosts and access log

Although this doesn't answer your question, I'm not sure that I would spend time trying to config Webalizer. It may be going away soon. Please visit this poll thread to see why. Lianna -
http://forums.totalchoicehosting.com/index...=610&hl=mailman I think that Rayners answered your question in that post. If that didn't/doesn't work out, please post back here, ok? Lianna

When does this happen? Could you paste the contents of one of the mails here so we can see? Thanks. Lianna

Doesn't Turtle use Irfanview? I know I've seen that name somewhere before. Lianna

I use ineedhits.com for my initial submit. Very low cost for great volume. Then I just followup on occasion with those engines that I'm not placing well with. Don't forget, there is a small submission routine in cPanel....FREE. I can't validate the results as a sole submission agent, but it's always worth a shot. Also, list yourself in DMOZ. Many of the popular search engines get their base data from DMOZ. Lianna

You are very welcome. Although we are not able to register .co.za in our domain name registration, we can host it. So you're all set. Lianna

No trouble at all. Head Guru is adding .co.za to the list as we speak! Thanks for letting us know it wasn't there. Anything else? Lianna

Jim, Sure, provided that you have an email account with your ISP. For example, my ISP is SBCGlobal. So in Outlook, I list for my domain mail account and incoming server of "mail.stoverdatasystems.com" and an outgoing mail server of "smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com". As long as I am using their services, and have an email account through them (even if I don't use it) I can send my mail through their server. Now, some ISP's have it set up that you MUST first check incoming mail before being able to send, thus ensuring that you have an account with them and evading the spammers. Outlook has a cool setting for that as well. Somewhere in the advanced settings for Outgoing Server, there should be an option to check: "My Outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" then tell it to "Log on using" and enter your ISP mail account username and password. No, your hosting account must be provisioned using a domain name and so must be entered at the time of signup. If you do not yet have the domain name, you should at least make sure that the domain name is available before using it to open your hosting account. The domain name with which you open your hosting account can be changed if necessary after your domain name purchase. Lianna

Doh! Thanks for the heads-up on the typo. Please let us know about them if/when you find more. We want to make our site, services and support the best there is. Welcome Home! If you need help with the move, please don't hesitate to ask. Lianna

Sounds like your ISP may have port 25 blocked. You can enter for the outgoing server your ISP's outgoing mail server instead. Lianna

Ouch! Now there's a monetary consideration! Compare: CuteSITE Builder (which IS Trellix Web, cleaned up a bit and can publish anywhere) will cost you $69.95US. Dreamweaver (which is much more in depth and the learning curve will be intense) will cost you $399.00US Um. Lianna

Rick, Regarding the 'apparent' downtime today.....Didn't happen. I think you and I were the only ones that had any problem at all. Mine was definitely in my ISP end somewhere. I was draggin' DSL across the road to the graveyard. I disconnected, reboot, and then all was well. I was in conversation with Nick the whole time and he had NO issues with my site, TCH or the forums. (yeah, and he's on dialup!). So, mysterious as it was, seems our coincidental problems were just that, coincidental. Lianna

Hmmm. .. I not very familiar with it (ok, not at all) but from what I've read, Movable Type could be an answer? Read about it here. Lianna

KW, Yeah sometimes I surprise myself. The cPanel Backup function is great. Let's you save your whole site into a little zipped up pkg. Save it locally to your hd or on your space somewhere. Check it out! Rick, Good point! Might be a good idea even on phpBB or any other built-in to revert to the defaults until the move. Shammer, Welcome Home! Make sure that you test the new site before killing the old. Not a good idea to just rely on the single backup....keep your options open. If you need any help just yell. Lianna
-
If your previous host uses cPanel then the transition is REALLY easy. Use the cpanel to backup your site and your mysql db's. Then when you come here, just restore from the backup. Lianna

Nick Rocks! Glad we at least got to the source of the problem. Lianna

I have to defer. Have you read all the installation notes from the PDF documentation that is supplied by Greenpepper.ca? Find it here. Lianna
