Thank you very much! Looks like that might just be the ticket I've been looking for. Will delve into USR's site tonight and TechTV site for the yep's-n-nope's, but sure sounds like a winner. Happy Girl. Lianna

Awstats skiphosts and access log
Lianna replied to Jimmy Legs's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Guys, I'm not the one to answer this, but: AWStats is a part of the cpanel package that is offered here. It is and will be installed at the server level. There is no way that we could viably install software per domain and not exhaust our resources. I am going to ask again, please let us devise a plan that will most effectively meet the needs of our clients and at the same time not completely kill us. OK? Please be patient. Thank you. Lianna -
Is there a way to view stats without cpanel?
Lianna replied to jodie's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Ok. Encrypt or scramble this: Then place it as a link in your site. EDIT: After trying several options with this, it just is NOT safe. Here are some pitfalls: 1. You must still protect the username and pass from appearing in the status bar on mouse over. 2. Your username and pass still appear in the title of the browser when you get to the stats page. 3. Once on the stats page, you can edit the address bar to remove "awstats.pl?config=******&lang=en" and they are in your cpanel. 4. You could place the link into a container which could eliminate #2&3. Is there a way to view stats without cpanel?
Lianna replied to jodie's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Wow, if anybody else wants to jump in here, please feel free. Since the stats packages are a part of cpanel, I'm not sure that what you ask can be accomplished without a bit of work, if at all. I could theorize that you could make a subdirectory and house within it a 'copy' of the raw logs (maybe using a daily cron job) and then install your own interpretter (stats package) within that site's public_html. A second theory says that you create a script that contains the user/pass to the paths identified above and then encrypt it. Place the script in public_html somewhere and magically you're in the cpanel stats without having the user know the user/pass. Now, I'm not a good resource for making either of those suggestions work, if they would at all, but there may be someone else here that has the programming experience to do it. ...ooh. I just got another 'theory' light bulb. Let me try something else, too and see what happens. Back in a bit. Lianna -
I must be completely dense, but I am still not getting this? From your PM to me: I attempted the link that you provide to residualclub.net and got a 404-Page Not Found. So I looked through the residucalclub.net site a bit, but don't see the relevance to what you're asking....probably because I'm not a member. I looked over the Replicator 2000 website and see what it does. I would pose the question that if you plan to replicate your site for use by others to be hosted on YOUR account here, that you may be in violation of the Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy. Since I'm still not really clear about how the whole thing works, you should probably read the TOS and AUP very carefully to see if you would be in violation by doing this. Now, obviously, I don't know of any freeware/shareware that will do the same thing since I don't really get it anyway.... So, I'll leave this post to those that are more likely to be truly helpful. Sorry. Lianna

AWStats is installed at the server level here (vs. the domain level) and is packaged with the cPanel. I will refer you to a long discussion thread dealing with AWStats and some customizations that others have chosen, but TCH does not advise modifying the AWStats files and you do so at your own risk of missing updates, etc. Here's the thread. Is there a way to view stats without cpanel?
Lianna replied to jodie's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Ah, yeah, that would help wouldn't it! For AWStats the path would be: For Webalizer the path would be: For Analog the path would be: How did I get those paths? I went to cpanel and clicked up the stats package. Highlighted the contents of my browser's address bar and copied it. Came here and pasted it. Keep in mind. Each of these is truely still accessed through the cpanel and thus requires login! Also know that shortly, only one stats package will be made available. Lianna -
What is your domain name? When did you sign up your account? And, did you change the Name Server for your domain as instructed in your welcome email? If you did change the NS for your domain and have waited the necessary 12-48 hours for the changes to propagate through the web, then you should be able to access via your domainname/cpanel address. If you will answer those three questions above for me, I double check that everything on the server end is good. Ok? Oh, one more: if you have the IP address that you were given in your welcome email, please post that here too. That will help me quickly identify which server you are on. Thanks, Lianna

No, you do not use cpanel to add domains into your reseller account. Use WHM (WebHost Manager) following the instructions in your welcome email. Cpanel is for use in managing a single domain Once in WHM (usually accessed by https://youdomain.com:2087) then add a package to define the default parameters for your clients, add more than one if you like... Then add account to input all the info for a particular client. Please read the WHM documentation which can be found here. Also if this resolves your issue, please close your helpdesk ticket regarding the same subject. Thanks. Lianna

Thanks. I had not actually tried the 'on-hold' box that you're talking about but had seen it advertised. I wondered if anyone had tried it and if so what their feedback was. Lianna

Simply put an HTML page on the site. Name the page index.htm. Make it say something like "This site is not available for uninvited guests" or something. As long as an index.htm page exists in your root, then the directory index (list of contents) will not display. Lianna

Is there a way to view stats without cpanel?
Lianna replied to jodie's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
It's not a problem. You can easily create a subdomain called "stats" and setup a redirect to the appropriate stats directory. Then they would access the stats like: http://stats.**** Lianna -
Hello. First, TCH does not use Plesk. We provide cPanel with all of our hosting account. (My previous host offered Plesk and I was culture shocked when I found all the goodies and control wrapped into cPanel.) Subdomains can be handled in either of the ways you describe. It's up to you and how you choose to configure it. A few examples: I'll create a subdomain called mydad.****. Then - 1. I can then set the redirection for mydad.**** to ****/family/mydad.htm (a single page within my site in the /family directory). 2. I can set the redirection for mydad.**** to ****/mydad/index.htm (a directory within my site enabling mydad to become a site structure of his own). 3. I can create an FTP user "mydad" and give my Dad the password. he can then publish his own site to ****/mydad/index.htm. Almost endless possibilities here. Lianna

I think that what you are looking for is the Index Manager in cPanel. Click the link to Index Manager and then click the folder to which the index listing should not be shown. Then select No Indexes then click the Save button. You can still navigate to pages via directly entering them into your address bar, but will not see the directory listing if no default page exists. By default page, I mean index.htm, .html, .php, .shtml, etc. If an index.htm page does exist for a directory, it will show by default. Lianna

Awstats skiphosts and access log
Lianna replied to Jimmy Legs's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
No, I don't think that it's too much to ask to communicate changes that will impact our customers. Factly, I think that's why I like TCH so much. Because communication is very important and it goes both ways. Give us some time to figure out the best way to handle this ok? Thanks for all of your input and ideas everyone. Lianna -

No headaches/can of worms from Tech Support. I think Head Guru stated the position quite clearly: So, do as you like but know that we can't support it. If you miss updates, etc. because of a change that you've made, please don't expect that your subsequent request for update will be taken as a priority issue. Ok? Lianna Technical Support Services -
Well, this free aMember program is a dandy! (Thank you Nick for helping me with the install specifics. You ROCK!) You guys can check out the Sign up page here. Make sure you check the Payment option for FREE (I don't have the Paypal one setup for real anyway and the signup will bomb.) I also don't have anything real on the page that you'll be taken to for free membership area. You will just see the directory index for /freegoose. Just a little demo. Anyone that wants access to admin panel, just PM me and I'll let you in for a while. Lianna

Wow, medgear. You got completely dumped didn't you? Is this still a problem? I don't have any idea how to help you with it, but I wanted to bring the topic back into the light. Also, have you considered using an application like aMember to do as you are trying to do manually? They have a free version and it's fairly easily installed. Here's the address: http://membership.cgi-central.net/scripts/...member/free.php Lianna

Can you show us an example of this? I think I'm not getting it. Lianna

It's awful fun being a little younger than you guys!
