You can also Webprotect it through cPanel. I have one portion of my site webprotected and even have links to it, but those pages are no longer listed in search engines.

Welcome to the family, Julia!

Nothing outside of public_html is accessible from the website. If you have copies of webpages in the root directory (ie above public_html) then you can remove those safely. There are however, folders and directories there that are necessary. Anything in the root that you don't recognize as being a direct part of your site (ie you created it or uploaded it to that location) LEAVE IT BE. That's the safe way. Second, I would strongly suggest making a backup of any files that you intend to delete! You never know and safer is always better!

Are you now able to login to the TCH domain management console? Once there, you should see your domain listed. Click on it and then click the link to modify the name servers.

Of the three HD crashes that I have witnessed, two were from mech (bearing seized) and one was from a lightening fry.

What FTP client are you using? How large is the transfer queue and when does it bomb?

TCH is such a great company, in part because of their insight. They reward people that add value and that provides a positive attitude from the support staff. Welcome to the team, Dick!

Please submit a helpdesk ticket. It appears that you have the FrontPage extensions enabled and that might be messing with it. I do not have FP ext. enabled, so I can't tell for certain. Support Staff can get you straightened out though, ok? Refer them to this post and let them know to chat me (Lianna) if they need to.

I've scoured their site and find no place to manage the domain name. So I just filled out their contact form with the question and hopefully we'll get a response soon. Through their 74 page User Guide, there is no reference to their domain selling and subsequent management of the domain. You may want to, and get faster service, by asking them in their helpdesk how you access your domain name to make changes to contact and name server information. My old host had provided a domain management console ON their helpdesk. Side note: I noticed that their domain registrations are much higher than here at TCH. Might I suggest that you initiate a TRANSFER of the domain name to TCH instead? Basically, you will have easier access to and greater control over your domain name with less expense. Once you initiate the transfer, your domain expiry will be increased by one year (so you don't lose any money) and your previous registrar will send you a confirmation email asking if the tranfer request is valid. You confirm the transfer and then you're done. When the transfer is complete, you will be able to manage your domain name easily from the TCH website. Go Here to see more!

Dom, Has your domain name recently propagated and now you aren't seeing the counter? Here's what to do: Edit the line of code from cPanel to exclude the ".dat" after your username. Save the page. Should work. Let me know. (If something else in public_html directory was deleted, it doesn't impact this counter.)

Ok, dieguy.com looks like it's listed through BulkRegister. However, you most likely bought that domain name through one of their resellers. You just renewed in October, do you remember how you did that? You probably received an email with a link to your registrar. If you remember where you bought the domain name from or where you went to renew it in October, please post that company name here and I will research further for you.

Naming Subdomain Index/default Pages
Lianna replied to Boojum's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
A subdomain is just simply a slick way of calling another page. Usually, that other page is located in a subdirectory of the site's home. Usually that subdirectory has the same name as that of the subdomain. However, you can redirect a subdomain to whatever page you like, named whatever you like it to be named. Honestly, the most simplistic way to do this is create the subdirectory for each subdomain and call each sub's home page index.html. When you create a subdomain through cPanel, it automatically makes the corresponding subdirectory in your public_html folder and it's ready to receive its very own home page and additional pages. Analogy (good bad or indifferent.) At a doctor's office they have a file drawer with multiple folders in it, one per patient. Each patient's folder has a health history record and a personal info sheet among other things. Each folder has a label on it so that it can be found easily and identify the contents. Your subdomains are the same thing. Your site is the drawer. Your subdomains are each folders in the drawer. The subdomain name is the label. The health record is the index.html page and the other pages accordingly. Hope I've helped rather than confused. -
Yes, one suggestion - drop in a help desk ticket and have the awesome Support Staff take a look at it.

roadmap, Making much more out of this than there is, that's why it's called the Simple Guestbook. From cPanel, click on Simple Guestbook and copy that code and paste it into a page of your site. That's it. Really. Then to view the contents of the book, either: A. Go to cPanel and click Simple Guestbook and then View Guestbook OR B . Copy that View Guestbook link and place it on a page of your site as well. Then you can view it from within your site, and so could anyone else. To Manage the Simple Guestbook, again those same two options above except you would click on Manage Guestbook link. **Note: If you attempt to view a Simple Guestbook that has no entries, you will simply see an empty browser page. Same with attempting to manage it. So, make an entry into the Simple Guestbook first, then see what the view and manage pages look like and what they offer. Hope that helps.

Ok. The counter that you added was not from cPanel then right? The counter from cPanel does not create any folders or need any in the public_html dir. It sounds like you were using a third-party counter? Dom, if you will post the html from the bottom of your page here (hiding any private info) then we can help more.

Ok, I just tested this in my account. Please tell me what doesn't match in your account: 1. Created a webprotect for folder /home/lstover/public_html/junk and gave it a name of MyJunk 2. Created a user with a password 3. In the File Manager, I navigate to folder /home/lstover/public_html/junk and see a .htaccess file was created. 4. In the File Manager, I navigate to folder /home/lstover/.htpasswds and see a folder with in it called junk, I open it and see a file called passwd What parts are you missing?

Go to your registrar. Most registrars have an online control panel where you can sign in and change the domain contact and name server information. If you don't know who your registrar is, then you can post your domain name here and I can help you further. The TCH Help Site has specific directions (movie tutorials) for changing name servers and many popular registrars.

joelmr, I do not know of a change in policy, but I specifically asked HeadGuru on Saturday, Nov. 22 if there were any TCH issues with doing this and he said, "No." Now, I will reiterate the Acceptable Use policy: Please note that a redirection of a subdomain to a home webserver does NOT preclude that home webserver content or activity from the Acceptable Use Policy!!! What ever content or activities you server from home via a TCH service are bound to the TOS and AUP of your plan here. Just so we are clear.
-
Wow, that's cool! And quite a line up of providers, too!
-
Good point by TCH-Don. I hadn't even thought of that. I just followed up with management on this issue and there is no issue. This sort of redirect is acceptable.

What files did you delete? I ask because the counter file is actually stored in /cgi-sys which is at the server level...you can't delete that. Can you take us through the steps you are trying to 'reinstall' it?

This will cover hot linking protection - You could also use this hack to limit viewing to only registered users - I haven't found a no-right click hack yet, but you should probably check out the Coppermine Discussion forums (coppermine.sf.net).

What version of Frontpage are you using?

You must create a MySQL database, a user and assign that user to the database first. You do this through the Manage MySQL link on cPanel. Step 1: create db Step 2: create user Step 3: assign user to db Then you should be able to access phpMyAdmin. Try it and see, if it doesn't work, please let us know.

Click on E-Mail Filtering Click on Add Filter Select first Drop down option: Subject Select second Drop down option: contains Type in the next field: stop pay Leave default destination: Discard Click Activate Click Go Back Change the subject of the test e-mail to something like "You can stop paying high interest" Then click Test Filter You should receive verification that the filter condition was TRUE. That means that it discarded the message. Like: My advice is to be very careful with the wording that you choose to enter in the field for your filter. If that text appears anywhere in the subject of any email, it will discard it. I certainly wouldn't use a filter containing the word funny for example. I get plenty of mail from my sister that she claims is funny. While I don't think they are necessarily, , I still don't want to lose the mail. See? Any other questions, just ask.
