  1. Thanks Thomas! (Now if only Coppermine could figure out the one-click upgrade like SMF did. That thing is sweet!)
  2. <smile> Thanks Thomas!

  4. Maybe she (the computer) needed the break as much as you did! LOL Hope you had a fun time! Glad its working now. BTW, Where did you go on your cruise?
  5. yay!!!! Three cheers for TCH!!
  6. So when you download the raw access log, first you have to save it to your computer. Then you have to unzip it. Then with the resulting file, you have to rename it so it has a .txt extension. THEN you can open it. THe part you're getting stuck at, probably is the file extension. See, cPanel gives it the name of your site. In my case, its paulpehrson.com. When I extract the file, it is called paulpehrson.com. However, Windows thinks that the .com part is the windows file extension, so it tries to find the program that can open a .com file. In this case, a .com is an executable file, but there is no code in this file to execute. The same is true if you had a .net or a .org or a .uk (or whatever extension) for your site. The resulting file will have <your domain>.<your tld extension>, and Windows will try to assume that your TLD extension is a Windows filename extension. Just rename the file to have a .txt extension, and you should be able to open the file. Once you get it open, though, you'll have a hard time making much sense of it, unless you run it through some sort of stats analyzer.

  9. Yep. I found the setting on phpBB. It's called Visual Confirmation. So, log in to your phpBB admin panel, click on Configuration (its under the General Admin section). The eighth option is "Enable Visual Confirmation". Set it to "yes" and click the Submit button at the bottom of the page. (You'll have to scroll to see the Submit button.) This is a good step for you if you have non-blind users. Users who are blind (or other users that excusively use a screen reader) won't be able to create an account using this method, and they will have to contact you to create an account.
  10. It seems like you can turn on an image-verification setting in phpBB, so that new users have to pass the image-verification test in order to set up an account. This doesn't work in all themes, though, so when you are testing it out, be sure to be using the defaul theme. Then if it doesn't work after you change the theme, you will know it was theme trouble that kept it from working correctly. Good luck!
  11. You'll probably need to find and download some type of stats analyzer. The raw log itself is hard to read. And when it tries to download, it saves with the extension of your domain. So if you have a .com domain extension, the filename will have a .com extension. That will cause Windows to hiccup, as it thinks that a .com is an executable file. So be sure to rename it to a .txt file or something. Windows may freak out and tell you that it won't be able to read the file if you change the extension, but believe me, double-clicking on it as a text file will be much more successful than trying to double-click on it as a .com file. Good luck!
  12. Welcome to the forum, Boonetown. I think that Bruce's advice is good. The problem with banning IP address ranges or whatever, is that there are always more spammers coming from somewhere else. You can block these guys today, but then what to do tomorrow when somebody else starts attacking. You're always playing catch-up and never really get ahead of the problem. The best treatment for a disease isn't the one that just numbs the pain after the fact, but the one that erradicates the disease. If you really want a guestbook on your site, try one that uses some Spam control including Capatcha or Askimet (or something like that).
  13. Isn't that the truth! The Help Desk is very fast for most issues! :

  15. Since you know the file works when you rename it, I'd guess that you're having some type of server problem. If it were me, I'd open a help desk ticket on this one. Explain everything you did here, including the part about the file working if it has been renamed to index2.php. Good luck!!
  16. When you suspect that your problems are casued by a server-side change, the best place to get help is through the help desk. I'd say its time for a ticket. Good luck!!
  17. pracpress, First, let me welcome you to the TCH forums and the TCH family. I'm glad you've found the forums, and hope you find the answer to this and future questions here. As for your specific questions regarding SSL certs, I would do one of the following: (1) open a help desk ticket. SSL certificates are a server-related issue, and the help desk is always the best place to discuss server-related and account-related questions. (2) you could always PM or IM one of the RED colored staff members you see at the bottom of the forums. I know from personal experience that both Head Guru and TCH Tim are very open to customers contacting them via AIM. I've contacted both. Other staff members are also open to having you contact them. That is why they give you their AIM addresses. (What other company gives you the AIM account of the owner -- the AIM account that he's on almost all day?!?!) Anyway, I hope you find the answers to your questions. Best wishes, and again, welcome to the forums and family.
  18. Arthur321, Welcome to the TCH forums. I don't know the answer to your question. I checked out my site, and I can't find which file stores that information. Hang tight. I'm sure somebody will come along with the answer.
  19. We were all new at some point, and I am new enough to remember those frustrations. It can be quite intimidating sometimes, but like others have said, use the family forums. We love to help. I haven't had a chance to welcome you to the forums yet, so let me do that: Welcome to the forums! Please, if you get stuck again, come back here for help. There are a lot of us here who what to help you be successful!! Good luck!
  20. No. Thomas is referring to the cPanel username that you use to log in to the back end of your domain to get to your site's control panel (where you manage e-mail, upload files, etc.) The welcome letter Thomas referrs to is the welcome letter you received from TCH when you began hosting here. All of the above assumes that you are a TCH client and you are trying to host your phpBB forum on a TCH server. Welcome to the TCH family forum!
  21. Welcome to the TCH family, Darcy! You'll be glad you made the decision to stay. Don't forget to come back to the forums regularly!
  22. Yes. Absolutely. Then I go home and stick it in my penny jar.
  23. The very easiest way is to use the installer in Fantastico on your cPanel control. Click on Fantastico, then install whatever software you want. There is one forum option there, if you are interested. Best of all, you don't have to do anything else!
  24. Remember that the Help Desk as a rule doesn't support third-party scripts, nor will they usually debug bad code. If there is a server problem, they can fix it. If it is a coding problem, they'll probably send you back here to to the forums to get help. Good luck!
