  5. Mel, Pear seems to be included, as I've seen other references to it here in the forums. However, I can't find anything that explains the path to Pear. Somebody else will have to come along to give that to you. Good luck!
  6. I was also amused that a FP file woulnd't appear in IE. However, com693 is right, the problem on my end is simply that IE requires you to click on each button to "activate" it. This was an update that IE rolled out in the name of "security." They are the only browser that does it. The click is required to activate it because the action is embedded as an applet. If you were to do a normal javascript swapimage function, or a swapimagerestore function, you wouldn't see the problem, because you don't have to click to activate javascript in IE. Dreamweaver has a couple of ways to set up rollover images using the swapimage javascript. You might check out a temporary download of Dreamweaver to see if it meets your needs. Good luck!
  7. Personally, I've never liked any of the e-mail applications provided by cPanel, so I don't use them. On some of my sites, I've set up Google Hosted, so I get Gmail accounts on my domain. Other sites I forward to a different web-based email account with an interface I like better. Still other sites/accounts I POP into a local e-mail client like Thunderbird or Outlook Express or The Bat!. Horde isn't your only option, if you don't like it. I didn't like it, so I found options I liked better. Maybe it is time for you to start investigating some of these for your own use. Best wishes.
  8. April, Basically anything you post to your website is going to be downloadable since it is viewable, and viewing content on the web is only possible because the content is downloaded individual user's machines. So there is no foolproof way to protect your intellectual property. What can you do? 1. Turn on hotlink protection. In cPanel you can turn on hotlink protection so if somebody wants your images, they have to download them to their own comptuer and then upload them to their own web space. This prevents users from "stealing" your bandwith. But users can still download your images. 2. Use a CSS style sheet. You can hide your images in a CSS style sheet, and then users will have to go through one more step to find them; the filenames won't be displayed in the "View Source" results for a webpage. Of course, users can still open the css file and find the image sources. But it adds another step. 3. Google your image filenames to see if somebody is using your content. If somebody has downloaded your images and reposted them, you might find them if they haven't renamed the files. Do a web search on the image's filename. If you find somebody who is using your images, you can attempt to initiate some leagal action against them. However, if a user is smart, when they steal your image, they will rename it so you won't find it easily. But you might catch a dumb crook that way. In the end, there isn't a whole lot you can do. We hope people will act responsibly, but not everybody will. That is just part of being a member of the online community. One one hand, you want people to find you easily, but you don't want dishonest web designers from finding you easiliy. You can't have it both ways! Best wishes, and good luck.
  9. which forum are you using? Have you asked the question to the mod author?

  11. apart + ment = apartment ? / Paul scratches his head. He is having a hard time thinking of another word pair for "apart"
  12. Hmm... good luck with that. I'm sure there is somebody that can help. What kind of comment form do you have? Is is part of a blog or CMS? (Maybe there is a plugin that would work for you, or something.) Or is it totally home-grown?
  13. Nope. If you want, here is a hint, spelled backwards: .sretaeht ni llits si eno sihT

  18. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and wishes and prayers. I feel your support, and I firmly believe that I feel the effects of your prayers and other sentiments. I feel like I've been uplifted and helped through this week. Tonight we had a public viewing at the funeral home. I don't know what the tradition is in other locations, but in our culture, there is an open-casket viewing the night before the funeral where family and friends can come greet the family at the funeral home and get a chance to chat with the remaining family members. It was a wonderful evening, and I'll be darned if I wasn't floored to discover an astonishingly beautiful arrangement of flowers sent to the funeral home, and signed "Your friends and family at TotalChoice Hosting." My wife brought me the card to show me, and then took me over to see the absolutely breathtaking arrangement of irises, white roses, and other flowers that I don't know the names of. My wife took a picture of the flowers, and I'll post the picture to the forums after things settle down a little bit here. (If I forget to post a picture within a week, somebody give me a gentle reminder. I really want you all to see them. They are amazing.) I couldn't go to bed tonight until I'd taken a chance to come online to my online family and thank you for your thoughts, and prayers, as well as the gorgeous flowers. I am still amazed that you were so kind and generous. I've been to a lot of companies that talk about how you are one of the family. But this is the first time a company has shown it at a time that really mattered. I'm humbled and grateful. I'd spend more time online tonight, but I'm giving the life sketch at the funeral tomorrow, and it isn't finished yet, and it's almost midnight my time, so I have to run. Again, thank you. You are a wonderful family. I hope you don't think I'm sappy (but sappiness is allowed at times like these...), but I really do love you guys (in the generic ). I'm feel lucky to be a part of this online family. Paul (and Christina Pehrson and extended family)
  19. Dear TCH family, I hope you don't think this is spamming the forums, but you guys (in the generic) have become a second family to me, so I wanted to let you know that my father, Nels Frank Pehrson, passed away yesterday at his home. His death was expected, but was still difficult. For those of you who are interested, you can find his obituary and funeral information in today's Deseret Morning News or Salt Lake Tribune. The information is also published on my blog: http://blog.paulpehrson.com Thank you for your support and prayers. I probably won't be around in the forums much over the next few days.
  20. You're welcome. Somebody else will have to give you help on importing your IPB posts into SMF. I'm not actually an SMF user, and I've never done an IPB --> SMF import. But good luck. I'm glad you got the board running.
  21. Stop right there! Take your hands AWAY from the keyboard! LOL! Just kidding. Did you know that there is a one-click installer for SMF in Fantastico? Log in to your account's cPanel, and click on the Fantastico icon. (The happy blue face.) Look for "discussion boards". The only item is SMF. Click SMF. The SMF-specific info will come up on the right-hand side of the screen. The words "New Installation" are a link. They take care of all the hard work for you!!! CLick on "New Installation" to have SMF installed on your account. Next you'll have to decide where you want to install it, and it is a good practice to create it in a subdirectory on your site. You might have it in a "forum" subdirectory. This subdirectory shouldn't exist, as it will be created by the installer. Enter the other options as you desire. Then click the "Install SMF" button. On the next screen, read the information. Then click the "Finish Installation" button. On the next screen, click the link to the admin area of your forum. Once in your admin area, bookmark the page, so you can get back to it easily. Now you need to update your forum, because the latest fantastico version isn't the most up-to-date one. To do that, look for the red banner in your admin area. It warns you that you should update your site. Click the "Update your forum" link. There will be some files that aren't writable. But SMF will FTP to your site, and update the files. You need to enter your cPanel password in the field on that page so SMF can FTP the information to your site. So scroll down, enter your cPanel password in the blank field, and click the Proceed button. A list of updated files will be shown. Click the "proceed" link at the bottom of the list, and you are done. Now you have the most recent version of SMF installed and running on your site. Good luck!!

  23. Right now in Salt Lake City, it's 86 F with an expected high of 93 and an overnight low of 62. Translated, that is: currently 30 C, with an expected high of 33, and an overnight low of 16. As for clouds in the sky, I can't speak to that one. My cubicle is in the middle of the office; no windows in sight!
  24. For those interested in reading a lengthy review on Google's spreadsheet program, I recommend the following from computerworld: ht*p://tinyurl.com/lo5xc
