The problem is that if it really is a skin problem, then EVERBODY who is on virutal hosting is going to have the same trouble, since we all got reverted back to the default theme as part of the hosting upgrade today. I don't really need it on my page right now, but I was just pointing out that it it seems to be a theme problem, and if it is indeed a theme problem, then there are going to be a LOT of virtual hosters who won't be able to run this function anymore. Then again, I could be wrong, as often happens. Maybe I'll head over to cPanel's website and see if I can't submit a feature request for a better default theme.

You set your custom error pages by clicking on the error pages icon in cPanel. In the default theme, it seems to be in the second row, fourth column.

When I've done this in the past, I've had to add a step here. After you change your nameservers to point to TCH (use the same nameservers as your primary domain with TCH), then you have to wait for them to propogate. The help desk can't do the actual parking until the second domain is resolving to your server. Once your domain has propogated, you can open the help desk ticket and ask them to park domain 2 on domain 1. The change is instantaneous at that point (since the domain is already resolving to the TCH server that your account is on). Hope this helps.

If you aren't using it in may places (a headline for example), you can do what I do on my blog: I use headline images so I get the font that I want as a title for the blog post. But then after the image tag, I have a span of text that isn't displayed, but has the title (making it search engine friendly.). For example, the code for the headline image of my most recent blog post is as follows: ><a href="http://blog.<mysite>.com/2006/04/27/15-in-10-min/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to $15 in 10 min"><img src="/wp-content/headlines/af[...]63.png" alt="$15 in 10 min" height="29" width="152"><span style="display: none;">$15 in 10 min</span></a> I have a plugin that does this automatically for my blog. I have the font installed on the server, and each time a post is requested, the blog checks a cached images folder to see if an image for that post already exists. If it does, it pulls the image. If it doesn't, it creates an image, stores it in the cached images folder and sends the image to the browser. It's a pretty slick plugin. And I get to use text in images on my site, and the search engines can still view my blog and understand my post titles.

No, the plugin isn't required for the basics. WP includes some default categories (Admin, Editor, Author, Contributor, Subscriber), but these roles have default functionalities that you can't change without a plugin. The Role Manager plugin lets you modify these default behaviors, as well as add new roles and gives you compelete control over what each role can do. All from the WP interface. It's pretty slick. I have to say that one of the things I liked most about WP (especially with the 1.5 code base) was that there WEREN'T a lot of bells and whistles built in, but the code allows you to create them (or add them as plugins). So you can build the blog you want with the features you want instead of being required to have a bunch of features that you don't use but still require disk space and processing overhead. It's the same principle about what I like about Firefox. I download just a plain ol' browser. Then I figure out what I want my browser to do in addition, and I install the plugins (or, in Firefox, "extensions") that accomplish that task. I don't want a bunch of features that I'm not going to use. But I want to be able to add the features that I want.

How will you get furniture down into your house? How big is the elevator? I'm thinking of some kick-butt 70 inch plasma TV, and a leather Lay-Z-Boy and the California King Size Bed, (and the grand piano, of course) and I'm wondering if those things will fit in your elevator.

I have a blog set up for my brother using WordPress. It utilizes 2 plugins: Role Manager 1.4.4 and Registered Only. With the Registered Only plugin, whenever anybody hits his main blog page, you get redirected to the login page. You can't view ANY content until you are authenticated. With the Role Manager plugin, I get to assign specific roles and capabilities to individual users. That lets me have some fine-grained control over who can access the system and how they access it. The Reigistered Only plugin has been great. He is in politics, but wishes to keep a private blog for family and friends. Something similar could be useful for your family.

Liked the design, Tim. However, I think you'd better have an alternate entry/exit point. Maybe some stairs in case the power is out or something.

If you are worried about the bandwith, you can always block the IP address.

Last time I had trouble with images not showing up when I thought they should it was because I had turned on hotlink protection, but hadn't whitelisted the subdomain. But I am seeing images hosted by your server. Here is an example What are you expecting to see but aren't?

Yes. I didn't know it at first either. I was doing it without realizing it was a violation of the AUP. Then I began participating in the forums and learned of my mistake and quickly corrected it. And Bruce answered your other question about turning indexes off. AFAIK, you have to set this for each folder on your site. I don't know of a shortcut way to change it for all folders on your site.

Does using the noindex meta tag prevent the search engines from using the page for raking purposes? I always assumed that even though they don't index it they still use it for their site ranking. But now I'm questioning that assumption.

The problem with what you suggest in the first paragraph is that you are pointing another domain at a subdomain on your account. This type of setup would be a violation of TCH's Acceptable Use Policy. You are allowed to have other domains forward as long as they forward to the root directory of your account (the www.YourSiteNameHere.org location). If you park the other .net and .info domains on your account, they will resolve to the same location, however, subdomains won't funtion automatically across domains. For example, let's say you own example.com and example.org. On example.com you have a blog in a blog subdomain: blog.example.com. Users can't automatically go to blog.example.org; it won't work. You would have to set up redirection in order to point blog.example.org to blog.example.com. Parking domains works great, so long as you understand the implications of using subdomains across your main domain and various parked domains.

I tried it out. Wow. I'm going to have to get the commerical version so I can use it to create great graphics for some of the technical documents I product. It would be so easy to create a model of a computer or a monitor or whatever using these tools. Wow.

I use SecureID at work too. It drives me crazy. I hate it. And I don't have the key-ring sized one that my newer co-workers do. I have one that is she shape of a credit card, but about 6 credi cards in thickness. What a pain in the patootie. But it is secure. I'll take TCH's random username policy anyday over having to use a SecureID to authenticate onto my website...

That may have been 2 pieces of "too much information" LOL Well, if somebody hacks in to your site, we'll blame your wife first...
