I meant to reply when I read it the first time but got busy with something ... read it again today. You're right. it sure can come in handy! If nothing else to boost one's own ego because someone liked your work enough to copy it. But that's a mixed "blessing" too. That site does the hard work we would have to do with Google or some other search and condenses it into one fast and easy to use search.

Thanks for the link Greg. It can be exciting, suspensful or even downright angering, if someone rips off your stuff, when you go to the CopyScape engine.

Thanks for the followup Mrsmlucas. It did sound to me like you were blaming TCH in the original but I also know that frustration can make us say things in a way we do not mean it. As for the hackers, John's right. These guys probably have a computer or computers out there looking at every website they can to see if CoolScript Version 3.2 is running because they know how to hack into it. They also have computers trying to log in to your account with every random password or dictionary word they can think of. Once they get in they can send millions of emails and get paid $0.001 each or something terribly small. If you have that tiny amount times millions of emails then it pays off for them to risk it. Sorry for your loss - death to the crackers/spammers! (Just think if they used that energy for good - we may have a cure for cancer and the national debt by now!)

Wow, it screams! At Cablemodem speeds the lag on the server end was quite noticable... it's great now! Thanks HG and crew!

A tool I use from time to time is at netmechanic.com. You can let them check out your pages for html errors, spelling errors and other things. One feature they have allows you to see the load times at different speeds, from dialup to T1, and then when you click an image they show you side-by-side versions of it compressed at different percentages. Just go down the line and pick the smallest one that still looks good. No guessing! Go to netmechanic.com, on the top-left under Fix HTML Code Errors click "Try It". Enter your page's address and wait a minute. It will come back with a report. Where it says "Load Time" the end of the line says "Detailed Report" Click that. Then it lists the sizes of each of your graphics. Scroll until you get one that looks as good as you need it to and click it. You can then click and save the compressed (smaller) version to your drive to upload in place of the big one that's there. Of course, nearly any graphics program can do this but it usually requires you to enter some seemingly arbitrary numbers and using trial-and-error to get it right. I use netmechanic when I'm lazy. That is one unfortunate fact of Internet life, Samantha, and one that our family and friends don't seem to get. These sites that send free greeting cards and stuff aren't doing it out of the goodness of their hearts (99.999% of the time) and are harvesting everyone's friend's email to spam to. The ideal world would have no spammers - not gonna happen A better world would have our friends understand about spam - not always gonna happen. The world as it is today requires us to have the best spam filters we can find and just live with it... which stinks. Such a useful tool as e-mail, and one that can be a major distraction is made even more so by ****, mortgage, and small-cap stock junk that most of us don't even care about! I am 40, healthy, have a mortgage broker and a 401-K for investments - why do I want any of this!?! It's like a female coworker kept getting emails directed at guys to "enlarge your _____" (censored - it's a family forum) and about every day I'd hear her say "I don't even have one!" and would know what she got in her inbox.

I can understand how you feel constrained, but think about this. For $4/month starting price we get a ton of nice features that others charge tons for. Also, I'd rather have a dictionary on my desktop, a 3rd party spellchecker or another window open to dictionary.com than to have every person running a spellcheck on my server eating a gig of memory. The bottom line for me is that my sites being available is most important. The features, price, support, etc are nice additions but I'd rather that nothing adversely affect my sites for the sake of a "nice addition". That's just my take on it as a webmaster hosted here.

You could definitely do it but it would be a pretty significant sized project and you'd have to parse your main inbox and forward from there. Hopefully someone else has experience with something similar and can offer ideas. The only other thing I can think of is to try script sites like hotscripts.com and see if they have anything.

I thought it was (in light of Abinidi's explanation) There are 2x+y where x=1 and y=x-1 kinds of people in the world, those who understand algebra and those who don't.

I'm not sure about this and maybe someone else can confirm it but you may be able to use IMAP instead of POP to deal with the messages on the server instead of downloading them all at once. It's just an idea if you're looking for something to research I think Bob's onto a good method though.

Depending on when you look and what's happening on the server (backups, maintenance, etc), it could be that the stats had not run for that day (or maybe not completed) when you looked.

If it were me I'd either wait a day and see if Hotmail is doing something squirrely or send the email content to the helpdesk to see if they know of any issues regarding email. Are you sure the content doesn't look like junk? Some filters will call email junk if there's no subject line or if it contains certain words. Hope you can get it worked out soon.

I'm glad you got it working, Nat. Maybe one day you'll write a song about the trials of the modern world At least now you can get back to something you are so good at and enjoy instead of worrying about this computer stuff. Major props to you for taking the initiative to learn all this web-stuff so you can do what you want with it. Not many have that much drive.

Just make sure you have a hard-to-get password and remember that programs can be set up to try to get in so don't use anything like a word that would be in a dictionary, names, etc. I don't know of any current security issues in Wordpress. Do you have the most recent version? That is very important too.

Hey Nat! Sorry to hear about the trouble. It is truly a gut-wrenching feeling to have your whole site (or section) go offline. I'm sure the tech support guys can help you with this. Don't try so hard to fix it that you break something that's not currently broken. I would think the SID problem should be addressed by the techs first. I hope you get everything going soon... best wishes!

If you did want to go the route Paul mentions with a test account, the HelpDesk techs could probably help you move the entire, tested, site over to the proper account/domain when you are ready. That way you don't have to worry about upload failures breaking your final site.

No, I was not implying that you are the one looking for the hosting plan. Merely that you seem to be searching for an answer for this guy and if you happen to find it then you better check them out before suggesting them to your aquaintance because they are probably crooks or sincere-yet-overallocated. If this other person finds them then he should check them out. I am assuming you both are looking, thus my choice in wording.

Those bandwidth and disk space requirements can be met but not for $10/month. I don't think you'll find any pre-made plans that have 5GB disk space and 10GB bandwidth. Most assume 5GB disk would eat up way more than that in bandwidth I'd think. Our most affordable plan at $4/month has 10GB bandwidth but only 450 MB disk space. The best-under-$10 is only 1GB disk space. If you can find that much disk and bandwidth for under $10/month then you (or your friend) better check it out thoroughly because that's some guy with a Compaq in his spare bedroom cramming tons of people onto an overworked server - or a truly generous saint just giving away stuff for free that no one else would. Welcome to the forums Peter. Dave, have you looked at email services that may be able to provide this functionality? I know there are a lot of 3rd party email hosting services and am thinking that there are probably some that can do what you need for your business. It's just a thought.
