As mentioned, there are specific websafe fonts that all of us can see. But if you want certain elements in your pages to have that specific font, you could make an IMAGE of the written text and post it. This can be effective for headers, separators, etc. then all the visitors can see your specialty font. And note that some web building software lets you choose the size of font like word processing (sizes 2 - 60) but in reality the sizes range from 1 to 7.

I could have written this statement.....I should have written this statement. In my experience, when a site is new, finding its place on the web, you need to play it as straight as possible (linking to appropriate sites, have well linked relevant sites link to you) to get found and ranked. If you have a great page and have only a couple incoming links, and your page is has irrelevant outgoing links on it, they certainly have strong potential to hurt. Once you have a solid ranking, you can take a few risks with your outgoing links and not have them effect you. As you said a strong page will out-way the few unrelated links, but that only works if you are already established. SEO changes constantly as the search engines themselves change. As people find ways to work the system, they have no choice but to re-engineer the ranking formulas. So even if an article is exactly on point 6 months or a year ago, it may or may not be by current standards. That makes it very easy to have conflicting information on the topic. Consider KEYWORDS. You can still find articles on the web by SEO experts that stress the importance of keywords and how to choose your best 50 for the site. Today putting a few choice keywords into the meta tag and working them into the page text is your best bet, especially since the search engines have gotten away from using the meta tag. And I hate to say this...there are some SEO "experts" that have hung out a shingle charging to "fix/optimize" sites while offering incorrect info that could potentially damage site rankings. A few months ago I assisted in removing some of what an SEO "expert" had charged to do to one site. Could have gotten the site banned from Google and others by using hidden words and other inappropriate techniques. Best thing you can do....Read, Read, Read. Take advice with a dash of skepticism and keep an open mind.

It is indeed lovely to hear kind words.

Using the robots.txt file, you can tell the (legit) search engines to bypass certain pages and don't list them. The meta tag for noindex would just reinforce that request. Legit spiders won't visit the page at all if you tell it not to in robots.txt file. If you want the search engine spiders to visit the page and index the links, but not index the page itself, the meta tag on the page itself is used without any statement on the robots.txt file. Meta tag can be 1) index, follow 2) index, nofollow 3) noindex, follow 4) noindex, nofollow depending on YOUR expectation for the page. ZEN-LIKE QUESTION: If you have said "skip this page" and they do, then how could the links on that page hurt your page rank when there is no page rank to hurt? As to how it would impact the whole site, I don't think it should since you have already said that you do not want that page considered, in the appropriate way.

Found an interesting article about your outgoing links. Text used to create the link CAN effect your ranking: http://www.agora-business-center.com/0106links.html and this one specifically recommends outbound links for local searching.... http://seoarticles.seoforgoogle.com/Why-You-Need-Outbound-Links.cfm So, if the links are relevent and written properly, they can be to your benefit! If they are off-topic you may want to segregate them onto a page that uses a meta tag noindex on it and possibly put it in robots.txt for noindex too.

Another new toy for non-commercial use.

I grew up on old radio programs on AFRS in Germany (I'm not an army brat, just a regular one) and now listen to the same ones on XM radio at work. Shadow, Dragnet, Abbott and Costello....Love it! I don't have XM in car or home, only at work on a borrowed receiver (I pay the subscription). When you are driving for hours, alone in a car, its easy to get sleepy and have that head bob thing going. Listening to someone read me a story keeps me alert, awake and interested. The drive becomes easier and actually seems faster.

Several years ago, I tried it. Didn't like it much the first time. But since the second time, I have been addicted. It's not always great or even good, but still I keep doing it. And once in a while, you get another great one... Can't do this at work or while on the computer... I do it most often when I am alone, but have with others... Audio Books. I love to read. An avid reader, so many genres. (Got bookcases of paper and hardback favorites I read then reread. Doesn't make it on the book cases unless I would reread it....otherwise I trade them out). But often don't have time for that simplest of pleasures. Originally I used to listen to them when I drove long distances. Now I listen to them around town....I get to a good part of the book and I have to drive around the block so I can hear it or sit in my car a few extra minutes when I arrive somewhere... The book I am listening to now is by Dean Koontz and is funny and creepy at the same time. It is intriguing. First time I've read/listened to him. Will choose another.... SO the questions ...... 1) Does anyone else feel the same way about these things? 2) First there was cassette, now cd. I am considering another format, downloadable material. But not sure what kind of player to get. Any suggestions what to get or AVOID?

I've been using AnyPassword for years now and have given it to bosses, friends, relatives that are NOT computer whizes. Each find it to be the best and tiniest tool on their computers. (found out about it on this forum) Comes in a free version (I use this one) and pro (paid) version with more features.

Don, I love the Listamatic site. Quick easy reference!

Using free, freeware, linkware and opensource programs are great when they are available. But sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and BUY a program. And the amazing thing that still shocks me.... The same folks will scream that they can no longer use that software that is 5 years old, even though it is a major security threat, won't run on modern computer has had 4 updates since that version.. The expectation is they bought the software and it is permanent.

Can you give us a link to the page where this happens? Sometimes seeing can bring other ideas too or help diagnose

My problem is RESOLVED!!!! I opened a ticket yesterday for my employers's chat interface and the one on my personal site, different servers. BOTH fixed within a very SHORT period of time. If you have not opened a ticket on it, do so and mention which server you are on. Chances are your situation is the same as mine and has been or can be resolved in short order!!

That's a great deal and nicw quality too! Most icons of that type are not free. They usually come in sets you download or get on disk for $150 - $350. You can search google for free icons, free bullets, etc and find others that might suit your needs. Or as Bruce mentioned, any photo program can be used to make them if you have the skill.

There were 4 updates in that last batch that could affect Outlook 2003 and I don't know WHICH to avoid. So for right now, I am avoiding all updates on home and office machines! As to the NAG.... I don't blame MS for doing it. I have spent alot of money on the software that I use. I have aquaintances that want me to burn a copy for them so they can try out the software and they are willing to do the same and they get upset with me when I refuse. I have warned some of these folks the time is coming that machines will start noticing that the software xyz was already installed elsewhere and they better get their act straight... Now maybe they will..or find new ways to get around the system....

Password Protect A Page With Cp?
Samrc replied to MindSlayerSauces's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Andy, if you add/remove more user name/passwords to that directory, will cPanel overwrite the file and remove that line of code? I know passwords are not kept in the same file and are encrypted, but didn't know if the .htaccess file would be modified too. -
I have spent a long time wandering free gif, smilie and button sites. They come in handy. Sometimes I modify to suit...even took one and made it into a GMAIL dream when I really wanted a GMAIL account from someone... If you would like a 250+ smilies (they include the TCH smilies ) let me know and I will put them in a zip file for you. I have some repeats but most are unique...

The recent windows update did not cause a popup or anything of that sort as I do have legal software. However, it did cause my OUTLOOK 2003 to lose functionality, on my office machine. Emails could be sent, but no attachments, etc. If I tried to insert a file that was on the server, CRASH. Then found out that part of the the "fix" could NOT be uninstalled. Spent most of Monday morning dealing with the issue and only resolution was to roll back to previous restore point (was Sunday Night). Now I have the permanent display in the bottom of my computer screen that says WINDOWS UPDATES AVAILABLE.

I use both CuteSITE Builder (work and home), CuteHTML Pro at home and other HTML editors like HTML-Kit (FREE full featured program) at work. CuteSITE Builder and CuteHTML Pro are TOTALLY different programs. CuteHTML Pro is an HTML (and other code) editor. If you like to edit HTML directly, this program might work for you. It is like many other HTML editors. Works well with CSS style sheets, has built-in FTP to connect/publish to your site. Intimidating if you do not know HTML code. CuteSITE Builder (CSB) is a word-processor like HTML generator. You work in a WORD like environment and use built-in FTP to load to your site. CSB does not allow you to edit HTML directly. The code is generated during the publishing process. You can insert extra code into your pages, and do many extra things with it but it is NOT designed to work well with CSS style sheets. This program is not W3c compliant but still produces decent sites quickly and without a lot of fuss. Decent forum too. KW and I have tutorial sites to help with CSB users. DEMO of the current product here which also links back to the tutorials. If you are used to coding this program is NOT for you. If you have NO interest in coding or only want to dabble, download it and try it free (full features) for the trial period (think it's still 30 days). I am not a Frontpage fan. It requires extra extensions (can't play well with others). TCH does support Frontpage extensions without a problem. The code tends to be heavier and more convoluted than CSB or other generators that I have seen. Choosing a website program is PERSONAL choice. Try several see which fits YOU and your needs. Long term what you want is a program that is easy enough to use that it makes the process FUN not a CHORE.

Noticed mine is down too. Went in and looked at the code on the page and compared it to what now shows in the entropy chat area of cpanel. Looks like I might need to update the code in the web page. Can't try that until I get home later. Before you change out your code (if you do), make a copy of the current code in case you need it again.

Thanks Bruce.

This little camera has no night vision. Wish it did but that's $$$. Two of mine are very active at night. At least once per night, the youngest, a male, chases the I AM A SPAMMER female around through every room a few times until she finally turns around and HISSES loud and long. Then they go their separate ways for about 10 minutes. Couple minutes later, she will join him where ever he is and grooms him. Yes, the larger horse farms in Marion County, FL (lucrative horse country) have eyes! Have to. They have horses worth millions in breeding stock and being trained for racing.
