  1. The term you are looking for is "splash page" i the uh.. industry. or something. =) The way you would do this is to have index.html be the splash page, and then put in a redirect and a link (in case people don't want to wait) to the main page (say, main.htm). Does that make sense?
  2. That was just far simpler and way too clever for me to ever think of. *blushes* Sankoo schussat =)
  3. Because these are shared and there may be many usernames on the server, it is important that they be differentiated - the way to do that is with the domain name. For instance, I could be lisa+lisa-jill.com, and I could also (and do) have lisa+distantearlymorning.com - if I just used lisa, the server would have no way of knowing WHICH lisa. So I don't believe there will be a solution for this because it's not really broken....
  4. You can't stop people from bookmarking it. You can make it harder by dumping it in a frame (which I'll keep my personal opinion about quiet ) and there may be ways to munge it. The closest thing I could thnk to do this (and I'm not a programmer, so I'm not sure it can) is have your page create a session when a visitor hits, then if they have an active session, allow them to go through that link - no active session, link doesn't work. I don't know if that is really possible or how to pull it off though..... This was brought to you by she-who-is-not-really-that-helpful? =)
  5. What about the quilted one with pictures of bears printed on it? Using IE isn't even an option for me, since I'm on OSX and IE 5.5 hasn't been updated in so long that it's simply not compatible with current technologies, for the most part. =)
  6. It shouldn't need to be. You may want to submit a ticket again and ask them about it, as they know more of the history and can look at the account. =)
  7. devshed is one forum I use for scripting and hosting things. css creator is what I use for css. I love TCH but I prefer specialized forums for help
  8. Just in response, .htaccess is not a script per se, it's a server file that can do neat things. =) That's the best explanation I can do right now, I'm very tired. But MT is a script, that's why it goes here. =)
  9. MTFirstNWords is a plugin, and while I no longer use MT, I know that most plugins are not supported by the dynamic templates (since they're perl and the dynamic templates are PHP) - that's probably the problem, you may need to remove those tags from those templates.
  10. You didn't quite say what about it doesn't work, or what steps you've taken. It is possible to do on TCH but it's hard to troubleshoot with so little info. Moving this to a more appropriate forum. =)
  11. I've been using CSS for awhile now and I can't do it the guys at the CSS Forums (csscreator.com I think it is) probably can, but they're geniuses with this stuff.
  12. Many professional developers will tell you not to use javascript for navigation (or flash) because people may have these dissabled (the last number I heard thrown around was 15% of people have js disabled) and so it's a bad idea to use for necessary navigation anyway. As far as SP2 goes, I didn't know it disabled onmouseovers. I don't run Windows though and I'm not a professional developer, so I can't speak to that because I don't care about causing problems for IE users on my personal site. If you can't find an answer to this here, btw, you might try peering around devshed - that's where I go for these types of questions and they are great, but can be a bit uh... direct.
  13. I so want to delete this, just to annoy beholder, because he's my friend and I like to annoy my friends. But I won't. I will say that it is handled in the thread he links to and that there are two ways to get around it. 1) Do as the link says 2) get a domain. Meanwhile I shall throw cheetos at beholder, because they're more fun than pillows, and more convenient at the moment.
  14. 1) If you're not using our smtp servers, then you are bound by the policy of the owner of the servers you are using. Note - you can use port 26 to use ours. I'm not sure of the legality of public school employees and receiving requests for info, so I shan't comment. You should follow up on that regardless of where you send from - there are more and more cases of spammers paying high fines / going to jail - you should look into this for your own protection. =) 2) Formmail is disabled on all servers because it is massively not secure and a common target for spammers to use for sending their junk. You should check out dodos mail and ultimate form mail for more robust, more secure solutions.
  15. Family Pages - Commercial
  16. Updated. Thank you.
  17. At some point, I am going to go through and edit the family pages for professionalism - that means spelling and grammar. So either he can fix it, or I can. *winks* I'd much prefer to use the web-site owner's own words, though.
  18. Added. =) I noted a bunch of grammatical and spelling errors. If you would like this updated to be more "correct" please post a new description here.
  19. Added. =)
