  1. this will be added by this weekend. =)
  2. These show up as referring sites in AWStats. It's done for a variety of reasons. Many people allow bots to spider their stats; and others show their referrers on their site (as a "plug back" I suppose, or bragging? ) - so this can up their pagerank. And we all know pagerank is the end all, be all of existance *note sarcasm* Jimmy: If you look through that .htaccess file you'll note that you can have "catch-alls" - for instance, I'm blocking all of "blogspot" - you could easily replace the blogspot blocks with say, "car" to block anything with "car" in the URL. There is a different method that uses only keywords - however I had massive problems with that crashing people's browsers and going into a looped redirect. BTW: These people will be delivered a 403 error - just in case you wanted to know. =)
  3. For the main backbones perhaps; but many of the ISP networks or even smaller networks may still lag behind. =/
  4. You won't get an email about it. It can take 24-72 hours to propogate and there's no way to get definite confirmation other than to check and see that it consistently resolves to your new site (it can sometimes ping pong) and that others can get there. =)
  5. *nods* The licensing changes with IBB were recent, and there was a recent upgrade to CPanel so it may be removed to comply with those licensing changes - which are out of TCH's control. But like I said, someone else will need to confirm or deny this. =)
  6. I don't see it in mine either, only phpBB. My guess would be that this is due to Invision's change of licensing scheme and no free version; but someone else would need to confirm or deny that. =)
  7. *blushes* I am not good with .htaccess, and I have pulled this together from a variety of sources. If/when you look you'll note that there is some duplication. This is my .htaccess file. WARNING: There are words that some may consider uh, adult content I suppose, in there. I had to block certain words and therefore those words may be reflected in the file. If another mod sees fit to remove the link I'll understand - if that happens, people can PM me. Note that it starts from the second #Rewrite engine on "RewriteEngine On #only include this line once to enable the rewriting engine" and yes, there is some duplication - mostly because some of it works and some of it doesn't and I haven't had a chance to sit down and figure out what it all means (IE: I have not followed my own warning ) also note this warning: WARNING I have done some *very generous* banning in that file - including ALL of blogspot.com! I *highly suggest* you do not implement this without at least some understanding or a look through to make sure it matches what you want, or you may ban more than you expected. Therefore: Use of this is the responsibility of the user - especially if you just cut and paste the entire thing. .htaccess can be VERY powerful so be careful! Ok, I'm done lecturing. =)
  8. Mike just had to be different.
  9. Port 26 can be used, try that. =)
  10. *raises hand* me too, me too! A link, yes. =)
  11. I think you have some excellent suggestions, however I have to say I am a bit confused. You quoted a package that is 10$ per month yet has the same bandwidth, less storage and far more limitations (email addresses and databses) than our cheapest package at 4$ per month. Are you suggesting we charge more, for less - but the offset is that there are a range of scripts pre-installed? Thank you for clarifying. =)
  12. You can park domains as long as they point to the root of your site - it just required a ticket to the Help Desk. =) As far as installing scripts goes, I'm not sure what the pricing plan BlogHosts used but I believe it was more expensive than TCH. As it is, we offer a great deal for a very low price; offering script installation would either require jacking up the prices on all of the accounts or charging for those installations because it would require more manpower. However, we have many, many family members that are more than happy to help with installation questions and troubleshooting if you just post in the correct forums. I, personally, have spent many hours in IMs and on Skype taking people through installations, and while I don't have time for that while classes are in session, I do answer a lot of questions as do many other family members where they are able to. It is that community that truly makes TCH great. =) I hope that helps to answer some of your questions. =)
  13. You have a point, but you have a virtual IP? You could forward people the information for accessing your site directly that was given to you in your welcome email. It's 3am, so this may be completely wrong; but I think it should work. My apologies if not, I'm trying though! =)
  14. Did you try throwing pillows at Earthlink? *winks*
  15. Caching on proxy servers. I used to have to deal with this for months on end; some organizations are just amazing. You can put in a redirect on your pages at Bloghost, so that they send directly here. You could do that with meta tags or javascript or both. Or, you could hunt down the sys admins.. but I don't suggest that unless you're only going to throw pillows at them. =)
  16. Did you try port 26 by any chance? That seems to work in most cases. =)
  17. Can you quote the book, who edit it or collated it, the publisher and the year? Like a bibliographic entry? Seems that would be the best way to 'prove your point'. Otherwise it's just your word against his. Which makes it harder. =) Especially if he lodged a copy with the copyright office.
  18. It's hard to say, and the mods here don't have access to the servers. The techs don't monitor the forums, so please submit a Help Desk ticket to have this looked into. =)
  19. sure =) The path to it, should you need it, is: /usr/local/bin
  20. You won't need that once your domain propogates. =) Just FYI. Indeed, I don't think it would work once it did, if you had your other stuff set up properly. =)
  21. hrm, not sure; but if it's working for mt.cgi and displaying properly, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. =) It was more of a sanity check to make sure you didn't get a 404.
  22. Ah, I should have thought about that since I had to deal with using the IP at first too. Yes, you can change that after propogation without any problems. The best sources for people that need / want to edit the MT templates is Illustrated MovableType along with Learning MovableType
  23. You could try putting the full URL for mt-static; that's how I used to run mine. also, make sure there is no # before that line. You should also be able to browse to http://www.******/mt-static/ and see the stuff there if that's where you put it, that's what the cgipath will be looking for. Otherwise, if you can include a url for us to see, that would help a lot.
  24. Excellent, glad you got it working! I know that script has been problematic in the past (since I followed/follow the MT forums; there was a multi page thread about it at one point) so I'm glad you got it going without too many hitches. =)
  25. Well you definitely reached the limit of my knowledge in this area. Let us know if you get it worked out, and how. =)
