  1. I was away this weekend (stretch into Monday) so I am a little late on posting this but, .... put on your dance shoes, it (Google Dance) started June 15th. Kick Me
  2. All Andy's thoughts/comments are correct. Each and every page should be viewed (and optimized) distinctly with regard to keywords.
  3. This is a very good resourse: http://www.ibskins.com Two good threads: Skin Overview And I used this: CSS made easy
  4. Scam.
  5. I am not on server 26 but I too use WS_FTP (Pro) and have it set on passive mode. I use several other ftp programs (different machines) and WS_FTP is my favorite (by far). P.S. Rick's observations/suggestions are usually 'right on' (i.e. under the advanced tab, check Passive Mode). Good luck.
  6. I know there are several (or rather many) ways to create pdf files. After you create the pdf, look to see what text you can select and highlight within the file. If it highlights, then it can be read by a spider. As you also mentioned, maximize the use of all your Meta tags.
  7. Sorry, I should have added one more thought... just because a page gets spidered does not mean it will be indexed. I can think of many examples of this, including pages with sessionIDs. For instance, a page with too many html errors will be spidered (and respidered) but it will not be included in an index until it gets 'cleaned-up'. Another example, penalty sites are spidered and respidered but will still be excluded from an index if the cause of the penalty is not rectified. I am not posting this to scare anyone, just would like to clarify assumptions.
  8. White sneakers and shorts.... oh no please not one of those Nerd
  9. No, they are not 'indexed' that is just PR being passed from pages that are. There are two ways to confirm that: the first would be to see that there are no backlinks associated with a particular page; the second is to search for a very particular (and extended phrase) which would be unique to one of these pages. Not necessarily, sometimes it can take two dances to be included. In addition, I truly believe things will change shortly so that a recognizable dance will not exist. I believe that we are approaching a time when PR will be continuously adjusted upon 'all' crawls. We shall see. I noticed you did not comment on my recruitment... I do want you to alter this forum. I need to talk with Bill and see where we are going (which forum) and when we 'settle' on one, I would like you to alter the URLs (mod_rewrite).
  10. Mitch: Nice article indeed! However... as my title might suggest I have to make comment. Critical and most often neglected (as in the case of this article) is search engine optimization considerations. I mean think about it. You could have a beautiful, easy navigational, content filled site but if no one can find it... what good is it? Maybe we need four elements?
  11. Thanks KW, I too was unaware of 'dnsstuff'... nice!
  12. Whoa! ... another thread that slipped through the cracks. Sorry. Bottom line: Google has worked very hard (and somewhat succesful) at indexing dynamic sites, but Google doesn't like SessionID's. Correct, and those boards are not indexed. Yes, I believe they would. You can alwasy look... try http://www.delorie.com/web/ses.cgi or http://www.wannabrowser.com/ And a lot of people like Same Spade I don not think so. Example, our board here is not indexed (and it should be!). When HG decides definitely which way we are going (InvisionBoard vs. phpBB) we (insert 'Jack' here; yes that is you ) here will be in charge of mod_rewrites. You may enjoy this thread for a preliminary.
  13. Oh my.... you should have been added a while ago. Sorry. You are added now. SEO thoughts: You are not in the Google index Reduce the number of keywords... you are diluting the importance of the most significant ones. Include all your keywords in your description and you 'main' ones in your title tag. Include Alt tags on all your images. Change: ><body background=images/grybkgrnd.jpg> to ><body background="images/grybkgrnd.jpg"> This following is more then 2-cent advice: How new is this site... if it is not indexed yet anywhere (I did not look) you may want to change your page naming strategy. From this: >http://www.hoosiercabinet.com/coffee_grinders_or_mills.htm to >http://www.hoosiercabinet.com/coffee-grinders-mills.htm I took out the 'or' never use "spacer" words in URLs and try to keep them to a minimum number of characters. However, what I am really getting at is the "_" vs. the "-". Even if those pages are indexed, you could make all the changes and then do a bunch of 301 redirects. REPEAT: this is valuable advice! Good luck and again sorry for the delay.
  14. This is the correct syntax. Possible problems: Make darn sure the path is exactly correct (case sensitive). Do you have hotlinking enabled?
  15. From the help site: Hiding the directory is not the same as hiding a file (i.e. the correct file will load when requested). Tracy gets an A!
  16. Dave: Your site has been added.
  17. Dave you have been added! Would love to see a little rewording on your TCH link... from Hosted by.... to web hosting by... SEO thoughs: Your site is not in the Google Index Why do you have a "/" in all your meta tags? ... content="Multimedia, Etc." /> Actually you have a number of these /> combinations throughout your document, might be a PostNuke thing??? Do not like them, could give a lot of "unknown attribute" errors. ithemes/TrueBlue/images/nav/spacer.gif (404: Not Found) Remove all you blank lines (or at least most). Be sure to include Alt tags on all images. In addition, I would include WIDTH and HEIGHT attributes on all IMG tags. You have several open tags (look at your <align="center"> tags). Cleaner html will make a difference, if a spider comes along and reads a page it will only tolerate a minimal amount of errors. How about this instead: ><title>DaveGorrie.com :: Multimedia, Etc. (Dave Gorrie)</title> <meta name="KEYWORDS" content="Dave Gorrie,David Gorrie, Multimedia Design,Website Design,Graphic Design, print design, " > <meta name="DESCRIPTION" content="Multimedia by Dave Gorrie including website, graphic, print and mutimedia design."> These changes will help (I promise).
  18. Freddy your site was added to the family members page (non-profit and informational sites).
  19. ThinkDigitally: You have been added to the family page. SEO thoughs: You are not in the Google index The best way to be indexed is through an external link (and now you have one ) Obviously, the more the merrier (i.e. get more external pages pointing to your home page). ><meta name="title" content="Think Digitally - Expand Your Horizons"> <meta name="description" content="Affordable Professional Web Design in West Virginia"> <meta name="keyword" content="web design, website design, affordable, graphic design, logo design, jason godden, homepage design, west virginia, wv design, wv"> Try this: ><meta name="title" content="Think Digitally (of West Virginia) - Expand Your Horizons"> <meta name="description" content="Web Design in West Virginia, affordable and professional."> <meta name="keyword" content="web design, west virginia, website design, graphic design, logo design,wv,thinkdigitally"> Remember, you should 'use' all your keywords in your body text (i.e. I took out a lot of words that you do not use in your text [e.g. your name]). Include Alt tags for all your images. Try this at the bottom of your table: ><tr> <td> </td> <td width="565" height="20"> <div align="center"><font color="#FFFFFF" size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><a href="index.html"><font color="#000000"> <b>Home</b></font></a><b> | <a href="services.html"><font color="#000000">Services</font></a> | <a href="packages.html"> <font color="#000000">Packages</font></a> | <a href="faq.html"><font color="#000000">FAQ</font></a> | <a href="contact.html"> <font color="#000000">Contact</font></a></b><br></font><font color="#0066FF" size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> <a href="http://www.totalchoicehosting.com" target="_blank">Web Hosting by TotalChoice Hosting</a></font></div> </td> </tr></table> Instead of this: Good luck.
  20. Content is King (i.e. good idea)! One thing that we need to be sure of though... organization. Content is wonderful but if it is not 'structured' in can be confusing, frustrating and not appealing to our members and guests.
  21. I confirm that it looks good Googlebot checks a robots.txt first when entering a site and then will check for the robot meta tag on each page.... why? The big reason in to conserve resources. Right now, the big issue with Google is resources (time). Therefore, if they do not need to spider one page (directory, or site) the better. Thus, what they are looking for are disallow and noindex. Meaning both of these are used to avoid spidering, they will ignore 'cute' things like spider after 10 days, etc.
  22. When you add the url you will get this on the page: >[IMG=http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/web-hosting-images/center.jpg] and then the image will appear when you preview (or post). You are right though... if you have hotlink protection, it will block it.
  23. To set up phpbb forum (some think it is better then invision): Setting up phpbb from the Help Site
  24. Click on the IMG button which is located above the box that you type a new message (or reply in).
