  1. You might want to refer to the following threads where others have had the same thing happen: ht*p://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9929&hl=hack ht*p://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9694&hl=spoof It's not uncommon to get spoofed e-mails like that.
  2. I'd agree for a business site, but counters do no harm on a personal site. The counters aren't for the admin's use anyway - they are to show the world just how wonderful and popular we are!
  3. Yes - when you set up a counter through cpanel, you can choose the starting number. You can also reset any current counters you have the same way.
  4. Well, I did it! I installed Firefox. Pretty slick! I did have some trouble entering information in a form, but I just closed it and reopened, and all was well. I haven't done the e-mail program yet....saving that for another day as I hate messing with e-mail. I always end up losing something. heh Not only does it stop all popups, but I can turn off Popup Stopper so I don't have to control-click to open another window. Sweeeet Oh - as for my IE....a couple days after my last post, MS had another update and funny, I haven't had an unwanted popup since. Hmm...... Microsoft BTW, I tried a bunch of things you all suggested and my system still came out clean, thank goodness!
  5. Have you tried to do a File - Import?

    Firefox

Tell us how you REALLY feel, Raul.
  7. I won't claim to be an expert by any means, but hubby and I have never had any security problems from outside sources with our router firewall. I've done security checks through Norton and various others and have come up fine. However, that being said, the virus thing can be a problem as we found out a couple years back. I got both of our computers infected (long story). Hubby was able to clean his up in time, but I had to do a complete reinstall. So I would say it's not a bad idea to have them on each puter.
  8. OK OK - you have all convinced me! I'll get Firefox downloaded this weekend. If I have any trouble I'll just pester Brich.
  9. So whenever I want to see Flash or play a game I'll have to switch browsers? Seems like a bit of a pain. Hubby and I used Pegasus mail for years. I don't remember offhand why we stopped - I just know we were having problems for some reason about three years back. <sigh> I'm such a creature of habit. Once I'm comfortable with something, I hate changing!
  10. Does anyone know if older (at least 4-5 years old) versions of Publish It can be installed on XP? I did a search online but wasn't able to find anything. I'm not exactly sure of the version; I just know it's several years old. Thanks! Kristi
  11. Thanks Dave! I had download.trojan, alexis, and the spyware from 2nd-thought.com. This came from clicking on a 2nd-thought.com site that had meta tags to make it look like a Sims site. I didn't click yes on anything - it downloaded it immediately even though I have security in place (yeah, security with MS IE. Right). I ran AdAware, Spybot, and Norton yesterday after I started getting the popups and nothing came up, plus none of the suspect files were back, but as I said, I'll do it in safe mode and also try the sites you recommended to see if I can root it out. Are there any downsides I should be aware of to using Firefox? I, too, would probably keep both for web design purposes, but I'd love to not have to worry about spyware anymore.
  12. I encounter this here at work all the time. Even with the space, your second part of the link is so long that it will shove the column over. Instead of typing out the whole link, why not just put a description such as "Blah Blah Forums Link" and make the text link to the page? If that isn't possible, you might want to put a space or <br> at a point before you reach the width of your column so it will look like it is wrapping correctly.
  13. Raul - even if I wanted to switch to a non-MS OS, I cannot because of some of the games I use. As for Outlook and IE, I'm seriously starting to think about changing. However, I already have an antivirus running AND a firewall, and I did look at what things were running in the background but didn't find anything out of the ordinary. Had hubby take a look as well. Madman - I will try the Safe Mode route this weekend. It just seems like more than a coincidence that I was fine for 4 days until I did the Windows XP udates. Thanks everyone for your input. One of these days I'm going to do a complete reformatting again just to make sure things get cleaned up. I dread having to reload everything though - takes a day to get back up and running again.
  14. Last Friday night I visited a site that automatically downloaded adware and download.trojan on my machine. I spent four hours on Saturday getting rid of everything. I ran Adware, Spybot, and Norton Antivirus. I am glad I haven't paid for Norton - dumb program can never delete anything. Anyway, I got every bad file deleted, went to websites about 2nd-thought.com and what I need to get rid of in my registry (spybot took care of all but one), and my system came out clean. I was popup-free and fine until today after I installed the latest Windows updates. Now I'm getting popup pages from all sites including this one that aren't being stopped by Popup Stopper, all my cookies are gone (had to re-sign in to every site), and I can't find where this is coming from! Not only am I getting ads, but my browser is crashing every few minutes. What is going on???? Is there somewhere else I should be looking? All three programs still say my puter is clean. Mad!!! I am an unhappy camper right now
  15. Be sure to post when your site is ready - I am looking forward to reading it.
  16. That would depend on what plan you sign up for. You can find the regular hosting plan details here. If you want to be a reseller, all of your sites combined cannot exceed the total allotment of your reseller plan. Those plans are listed here.
  17. I agree - I greatly dislike debating. `
  18. Actually, while Jesus showed compassion for everyone, he most certainly did judge certain actions as being sinful and wrong. There is a difference between condemning a person and condemning certain things a person might do. (I'm sure any further discussion of this should probably be by PM ) Going on the base assumption that this universe didn't all come about by sheer dumb chance, I can't have one "truth" and you another "truth." By definition a truth is absolute. So we really just have opinions of what Truth is, some of us right and some wrong, and someday hopefully we'll understand what it's all about
  19. Cool - can I have your copy?
  20. Welcome! TCH has many fans - kudos to HG and his staff!
  21. 338 my first try, 408 within first 5 tries.....will have to work on this.
  22. Joly, if you want to use a header or small amount of text in a specific font, you can always use some sort of graphics program to make a picture with text. Like making a banner except with a transparent background. You just don't want to put too much text this way as the picture itself will increase how long it takes your page to download.
  23. I see Times New Roman for both (I do not have American Classic on my machine).
  24. For the same $4 a month??!! No doubt about it, Rock Sign
  25. Hi I'm not a TCH staff person, but yes, you can have e-mail only mail lists named whatever you would like @yourdomain.org. I will leave the technical aspects of transferring domains, etc to the staff. I have two mail lists, one has around 10 members, the other is probably close to 30 or 40 and growing, and I've not noticed any delay issues so far. I can choose to either have them go out as digests or as single e-mails. As for message boards, there are a couple you can install through TCH. I'm a noob too and haven't taken the plunge to install one, but everyone here is very willing to help out with any questions/problems you might encounter. TCH is a great place to have a site! I don't think you'd be disappointed.
