When you set up the subdomain you should not set up any redirection. The subdomain will automatically redirect to the correct folder and show mysub.**** in the address bar. If you set up mysub.**** it will go to ****/mysub with no further action. If you go and set a redirect to www.****/mysub it will show that redirected address in the address bar.

We can park the domain on your account so that both domains point ot the same page. There is no charge. All you need to do is open a Help Desk ticket and make the request. We do not permit having a second domain point to a different page, subdomain, or folder on your site. Only reseller accounts may use add-on domains in this manner. If you want the second domain to be a separate site you would need an additional hosting plan.

The # signs should be removed in the last section so that the MySQL database will be used. The rest is answered in PM.

MT has changed their mt.cfg file slightly. They now have the MySQL commands in the code and you should set them using the database name and username as indicated. They have these lines commented out (using the # character in front.) You must remove the # signs so the lines will be processed by the script. Give me a domain name and I can have a quick look at the file.

You should be able to go into File Protect in CPanel and set up protection again for the folder and it will overwrite the .htaccess file with the new password. If that does not work you can delete the .htaccess file in the directory you want to protect and then use the File Protect in CPanel to password protect it.

In case someone sees this thread later, the problem was Hotlink Protection was turned on. To use the shared SSL it is necessary to add the server address to the allowed hosts.

For the cpanel you need to enter http://IPAddress/cpanel. You only put your username on the end to view the site before propagation.

I answered this in your Help Desk ticket but want to post it here for future use as well. I ran a Google search for redirect domain.com www.domain.com and there were several options. The best I saw was adding the following code to your .htaccess file which uses a Rewrite. Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yourdomain\.com RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.******/$1'>http://www.******/$1 [R=permanent,L] As always, make backups of your .htaccess file before modifying it so that you can go back to a working copy should there be problems. If you try using a Redirect / http://www.******/ you will get a loop and the site will not work.

Yes, CPanel uses port 2082 (2083 in secure mode) for access on both the server and client. WebMail uses ports 2095 and 2096. If these ports are blocked at work you will not be able to access these features there unless the ports are opened up on the firewall.

It would be possible to use the account just for email. It would require setting up the MX record for the domain to point the IP of the server here. Mailman would not work if the domain is not pointing here.

All servers should have freetype installed by default. For some reason it was missing on server 35. I tested several other servers and found it was compiled into php. I have recompiled php with freetype support on your server. You can test it by running the fttest.php program I put in your public_html directory.

You have posted several questions requesting clarification and we have attempted to provide the answers. As has been mentioned, this topic comes up regularly and the interpretation of the policy has not changed. The thread began with a question on editting the .htaccess file and has progressed to a debate on the definition of hosting. We do have accounts that allow you to do exactly what you are wanting to do without violating the AUP. They are called reseller accounts and you can create a parked page and point all the domains you want to them. As far as hosting is concerned, if you type domainxyz.com into a browser and a page on our server comes up then we are "hosting" that page as it is served from our server.

From our AUP: We have interpreted this numerous times in the forum as meaning you may not point additional domains at a separate page, folder, or subdomain of your main account. We choose to have the policy so that we can maintain a reasonable number of sites per server. There are those that disagree with the policy but it remains the policy. I understand that what you are doing uses little bandwidth but it would be just as easy to create a page that in effect is a whole separate site with links to separate pages, etc. Truth is if you had not asked and just set it up no one would notice or say anything unless there was a problem caused by it. So, is it possible to do what you ask? Sure. Is it against the AUP? In my opinion, yes.

Our policy is we do not allow multiple domains to point to different pages, folders, or subdomains of the primary site. The most common use of parked domains in the context we have here is to point a .com, .net, and or .net to the same site. You can accomplish what you are saying through most registrars of domains. You would just set the domain to the parked page there that would say something like "Coming Soon" so that people will receive that page letting them know that the site is not yet set up.

It's been a while since we have had a discussion on what's permissible for subdomains so I thought I would just post a thought I had tonight. I was checking on a site that had to be suspended. In looking at the site it appears that the account owner had given a friend a subdomain for a blog. Included was a script to mail bomb someone. It allowed you to specify the address, number of mails to send, and message you wanted to include. As a result the site is suspended and pending termination. Moral of the story is that you are responsible for what happens with your account. Be sure to know what is on your site. If you see something that should not be there and don't know how to remove it let us know immediately and we can help.

You should have received an email from the Billing section reminding you that the account was about due for renewal. WHen you purchased the account it set up a recurring billing so the same credit card will be billed. If that information has changed there could be a problem. To check the status send in a Help Desk ticket to the link at the top of this page and address it to Billing. Someone there can check on things.

We cannot modify php.ini for an individual account. This configuration file contains the server-wide settiings and register_globals is set to on. You can try adding 'php_flag register_globals off' to your .htaccess file to turn it off for your scripts if you wish.
