Code To Exploit Windows Graphics Flaw Now Public
TCH-Andy replied to TCH-Dick's topic in Security Discussions
I dug out my fully patched version of XP, and IE - yep, it caused an error a treat - back to the standard Firefox -
Hi, Have a look at Web Page Analyzer it will tell you how long your page will typically take to load because of the size etc. remember not everyone is on cable. For thos on even a very fast dial-up (56kb) it would take a minute to load that page. Personally I try to keep the page size down so that it's under 10 seconds for a dialup user. That means a lot of optimisation for your site. but the above link gives you some good clues as to where it needs optimising.

Hi Cem, 1. We keep uptodate with the most recent stable versions of cpanel (currently 9.4.1-STABLE ) - so you shouldn't be missing out on anything. 2. You can install your own scripts. Basically, if it doesn't affect anyone else on the server, it shouldn't be a problem. How - I usually use FTP, but it depends on the script. 3. I don't think it's a cult in any way - but then I would say that wouldn't I We don't force you into joining the forum and getting onvolved here - if you wnt to you can just sign up for hosting and not write anything in these dodgy forums... In terms of restrictions - this is a balance between having some restrictions and having reliable servers (because someone has tried installing an SSL certificate themselves, and messed things up for other users). The choice is yours

2 Questions: Subdomain And Protecting Directories
TCH-Andy replied to Geuis's topic in Open Discussion
Hi, I just had a quick look, and you had in incorrect redirect. YOu were redirecting to h**p://nycpics.thetechgurus.net/nypics/gallery but it should be redirected to h**p://nycpics.thetechgurus.net/gallery My only other question would be why you have the nypics directory if you want to redirect everything into gallery? why not put the gallery files directly in the nypics folder. -
Hi Stefano, Welcome to the family Using a disclaimer, or the introduction page should be fine to cover the period between posting and the mod deleting the image.

Hi Shana, Welcome to the family

Hi Wayne, I agree with Robs Question - Why 2 redirects? The other issue is that the start page is nearly 300kb - a little large for a home page in my opinion.
-
Hi Cem, 1. it would count as 100 emails, so yes, you would need to split it. 2. You can access the secure cpanel with h**tps://domain:2083 3. On a standard account, we manage all teh DNS zone for you - you can ask us for specific requirements via the help desk.

Hi, Are you using username@domain.com as the username when logging into the FTP? It looks as if you are using bigjohn, rather than bigjohn@****.
-
Hi, I have not used Macromedia Contribute, so can not tell for certain, however, looking at the literature it appears that the contribute software runs on your computer (rather than the server) and then interfaces with the server via FTP. Hence it would not be running on the server, and therefor not a problem. I may have misread the macromedia site of course The best way to find out is to download a trial version for your operating system, and have a good look at how it works, and what is needed on the server.

You are on Server81.

Hi try 66.36.231.133/~username/nycpics where username is your cpanenl username.

OK - I've been and looked again. If I follow the pages to photos etc - they all show up. On the page you linked to, there is a japan map that does not display properly. This is because of it not being a valid jpg file - it may have become corupted when you uploaded it. I can download the file (so it's not hotlink or other protection) but when I try and open it with a graphics editor it tells me the format is invalid.

Hi, I went through several pages of your site, including the gallery, with pages of photos, and they all worked for me. What browser are you using? have you got the options for showing pictures turend off?

I Want To Just Use Mysql Fromt His Hosting Server
TCH-Andy replied to rupya's topic in Scripting Talk
Hi Rupya, Welcome to the family Sorry for the slow reply - but you have asked a very wide question Each script will need to be modified seperately. First, I would log into your cpanel, and go into manage mysql where you can allow other hosts to access your database here. Add the IP address of the server hosting your scripts. You will then need to go to each script and determine where it has the configuration for the mysql database. There you will need to set the host, username and password to be the database information at the server here. Perhaps it is best to go through each one of these seperately. Alternatively - you can just move the accounts over to TCH and have them running on the same server -
Hi Wayne. Do you have a domain name? or are you just trying to get it working with the IP address? If you are using the IP address, then it will just be cgi-bin or /home/tpalsor/public_html/cgi-bin not /cgi-bin Some scripts etc will also not work until your domain name has propagated.

Hi, Yes you can use compression. Please see the compression thread or web page load times thread

Hi, Do you use Zone Alarm? (or similar firewall) I just checked, and got the same error as you. However, go into Zone Alarm, Privacy settings and turn the add blocking off. IE will then show animated Giffs - and you can save them. Why this blocks animated Gifs for IE and not for Mozilla I don't know
-
I'm not sure I understand - Sorry. Why do you want to redirect all your domains (including parked domains) to a single subdirectory, rather than the main domain?
-
If you are redirecting different domain names to different sub-domains, then it would be a violation - Yes.
-
Hi, yes, AuP is the Acceptable Use Policy
-
Hi, Welcome to the Family You can upload your files (and see them) using the IP address straight away. Although this doesn't always work well with FrontPage.
-
What's the format of your email address? As long as it's of the form xxx@somedomain.tld it should be fine.
-
Hi, Have you got any spam filters? Your account is set up, your details were sent out, and also the help desk ticket was replied to. With no bounces of the email address that I could see
