I wonder if there were some posts that were pruned, but somehow the system modified your post count when it pruned the messages (it isn't supposed to do that, as far as I can tell). That is a good question. My post count is about where I expect it to be, FWIW. EDIT: Sorry about the delay posting this. I started my reply, and then came back to it 10 minutes later (after Dick posted his message).

Glad to hear that it is working. The problem I had one time was that I dind't extract the files properly, so I lost the directory structure, which is obviously very important. (What a silly mistake. I know better than that!) Let us know if you encounter any further problems. We really DO love to help! (And we can solve MOST problems, when we get our heads together!)

Yes, I agree. In any case, I don't have a microphone on my work computer, so I haven't done any voice chatting yet. Just text chatting. And I have to say, my favorite part of the Google Talk interface is how clean it is. I think it will be the IM of choice at my work (we have been using AIM), because of how clean it is. No extra buttons. No advertisements. You can make the window small and it is still useful.

If you put *s around a word, it turns it bold: thus *bold* would render bold. And _s around a word turn it italics: thus _italics_ would render italics. So there is SOME (albeit very limited) formatting. My Google username is my first and last names put together with no space (see my sig line). I'm at work, but would chat for a few minutes with somebody if they wanted. And I really like the program and interface. I blogged about it here if you are interested.

Welcome to the forums Kathy, I use DodosMail on a number of different sites, and have integrated it with two different blogs I use. If you need help setting it up on your account, let me know, and I'll see if I can help. I hope you don't make the choice to leave TCH. It is my opinion that a decision to leave TCH because you think you will get better support elsewhere would not be a great choice. I have hosted with three companies prior to moving to TCH over 2.5 years ago, and my experience has been that other hosting providers have provided a much lower quality of service and support. I'm sorry that the Help Desk couldn't provide support for a third-party application. But there are lots of us here in the forums who are more than willing to help. Chances are good you won't find that level of support elsewhere. So I hope you stay... for your sake. I think you will get better help in the long run.

Here is a program that I used for my employer once... www.webfilebrowser.com They were quite pleased with it. It only cost $21. However, it got to be slow when there were more than a couple hundred items in the folders being indexed. (edit: remove link)

Yesterday I read about Google's new desktop search, and today media sources are reporting that Google is about to go live with a new IM service, Google Talk, which will apparently be a direct competitor with companies like Skype. In any case, Google hasn't confirmed the announcment, but I went to the following URL: talk.google.com, and it is a valid subdomain, but the target folder is missing. Compare that error message to a random (thus probably non-existent) subdomain like wonderful.google.com, and you'll see what I mean.

Those are the permissions of the files I have as well, and they seem to be in the right format. Dang. I don't know what to tell you. You might try asking for help in the WordPress forums. I assume that the blogger importer tools is located in your wp-admin directory... Because there is this line of code in the blogger importer: >$archivefile = "../$bgy"."_"."$bgmm"."_01_wordpress.php"; and the ../ part of that code means that the importer will look for the files in the directory directly above the directory where the importer file is located. I suppose you could replace that line with this one: >$archivefile = "$bgy"."_"."$bgmm"."_01_wordpress.php"; And then copy all of your year_month_01_wordpress.php files into the same directory as the importer... but I'm not sure that would do a lot of good. It would only work if the probelm is that the importer is not finding the files to import. Again, your best bet may be to go over to the WordPress forums and see if they can give you better help. Sorry I couldn't solve this one for you. Good luck. Let us know what happens.

Hmmm. I thought I checked that to make sure I was entering it correctly. But alas, I have no more users (from before the upgrade) that I can check. Weird. But it seems to be working now. Funny that all three of us would make a similar mistake...

Ok. Here's what I found (and this will be fast, because I'm about to miss my train...) If you register with a new account, it works fine on my blog. But if a user who was a member before I upgraded to 1.5.2 tries to log in, they cant, even if I, as an administrator, give them a password in the interface. However, if that user clicks on the "I forgot my password" link, then they will get an email saying "follow this link to reset your password." They follow the link, and a new random password is sent to them. Now, when they log in with the WP-set password, they can. They can then change their password to whatever they want, and they can continue using the site as usual. At least that worked for me right now. Your mileage may vary. Now I'm running for the train. I am also having this trouble, although I didn't know it until today. Users are not able to log into my blog. The only user that appears to be working is the admin user. I tried this with two different users; one is an "author" (level 1) and one is a "reader" (level 9). I'm using WP 1.5.2. I'll work on trying to figure this one out tomorrow.

Oh, and if you are missing some options in one of your cPanels, mention that in your help desk ticket, and they will be able to add whatever is missing. (I had that problem too! )

I had this "problem", and I found out that it has to do with different cPanel "skins". The help desk is able to change the skin that is on your cPanel. So open a help desk ticket (link is at the top of the screen), and tell them which skin you would like. Welcome to the forums!!

If you'd like, you can open a help desk ticket (link at the top of the page), letting them know what it is you will need them to do. The will be able to tell you if it is possible or not.

From your description, I wasn't able to tell if your files are named correctly. The files should be named in the following format: year_month_01_wordpress.php You should have one of these files for each month you blogged on Blogger. When I did my import, here are two examples of files that I imported: 2005_05_01_wordpress.php 2005_04_01_wordpress.php If you filename isn't in that exact structure -- underscores and all -- then WordPress can't find the files to import them when you use the Blogger import tool. I'd also recommend that you read the thread that Bruce suggested because it gives Andy's comment importer tool -- which, if you don't follow, you won't get your comments imported into WordPress. (That is, unless WordPress has fixed the Blogger importer. I'm not sure about that.) Let us know if you have more questions. We love to help.

Thanks Thomas! The upgrade from 1.3.3 was painless and quick. I think it took about 5 minutes total for me today.

I'd recommend that you start by viewing that site and making a list of the things that you like. In that list, I'd be very specific. Do you like the color scheme? (If so, list it, and list the colors that you like.) Do you like the 3-column layout? Do you like the width of the text block? The fonts used? What, specifically do you like about them? Then, I'd go to some other sites, and I'd do the same analysis. Find out what it is that you like--specifically--about those sites, and then you will be better able to design your own site. Now I'm never going to say that you shoud just use another person's code without permission, but you ARE allowed to look at their code to see HOW they accomplished something. There is nothing wrong with learning from other sites. Then you go to your own site and do it yourself. Like Rob said, you'll have a hard time finding somebody else to develop a professional site for you, but with some hard work of your own, you will be on the path to making your own professional site. And in the forums, we're always ready and willing to help you make your site's dreams come true. So when you get stuck, be sure to holler our direction! Good luck.

yeah, I just verified that those names change by the poster. It also appears that when the link is a mailto link (if a user enters their email address) that the link works correctly (it opened my default email program with a message addressed to the person who left the comment).

Well, that was just one of the comments. I didn't look at all of them. I just assumed that that address was the one entered by the commentor...
